This team in the rankings

Per a pure following of the NET, the A10 today would have 3 NCAA teams:  #5 Dayton, #36 VCU and #40 URI.  Richmond at #56 would be the 7th team OUT and in the NIT.  SLU at #68 would be the 18th team OUT and in the NIT.  Disclaimer:  There are traditionally about 3 variances per season between the ratings system used and the actual NCAA field.

This would mean SLU would be a 5 Seed in the NIT, playing its first NIT game on the road.

The NET would produce 23 one bid (Juan Bid) conferences, including, surprisingly the Mountain West, this despite the Mountain West having the #1 rated team per the NET in the San Diego State Aztecs.

The NET would produce a whopping 39 teams from the Power 5 (Big XII 4, Big Ten 11, Pac-12 5, ACC only 3, SEC 7) + 2 (Big East 6, AAC 3), along with 3 teams each from the A10 and WCC (#3 Gonzaga, #26 BYU and #33 St. Mary's).

Right now it appears the NET is even more diabolical and Power 5 +2 skewed than the RPI was, adding approximately 2 more NCAA teams for the big guys.  The Big 10 would have a whopping 11 NCAA teams, with #52 Indiana the fourth team OUT and in the NIT, but probably in actuality IN the NCAA.

If the RPI was still used by the NCAA (I know it isn't), SLU with RPI of 48, would have the final NCAA at large bid.

Per the RPI, the Power 5 would have 27, the Power 5 + 2 would have 37, meaning the NET is yielding 2 more Power 5 + 2 teams, but actually 3 less Power 5 teams.

The Big Ten would have 8 NCAA teams per the RPI, rather than the ridiculous 11 per the NET.

The A10 would have 5 NCAA teams per the RPI, whereas it would have only 3 per the NET.

We have two of the most important games in the league this week and we're indeed not going to be well rested on Saturday. We have to beat Duquesne.

Helps a little that we have one more day of rest than Duquesne and that La Salle kept their Sunday game close enough so that the starters had to grind it out to the end.

SLU's NET, as expected, took a dip in the wrong direction, but not that bad of one, from 68 to the current 76.

A 76 NET should still be in NIT range, absent the inevitable gerrymandering.

Duquesne's NET improved dramatically from 91 to the current 70.  Road Wins are golden.

FUOK THE NIT.  man, i'm bummed about that loss.

The NIT is a fallback.  SLU (we) have bigger fish to fry (or grill in this era).

The NIT is better than nothing, does provide good elimination tournament game experience.  Getting to the NIT Final 4 at Madison Square Garden in New York City is not chopped liver, is decent NY strip steak.

But the goal is the NCAA, the Big Dance, not the sock hop (NIT).

The NIT would be a tremendous accomplishment for a team with this level of experience and this many holes.

Yes, but doesnt mean its not also a bit disappointing.

Agree the goal is the NCAA but there are really only 2 paths to the NCAA at this point. 1) Win every game from here on out or 2) Win the A-10 tourney.

We aren't going to win out, so if your goal is the NCAA tourney, focusing on the NET really doesn't do anything, you need to focus on getting the best possible seed for the A-10 tourney.

The NET watch will still be valuable come NIT selection time...

Beating us on the road bumped Duquesne up 21 spots.  What would beating a top 5 team on the road do for our ranking?  Some of us are still holding out hope that we can 1) pull off the biggest regular season upset since we took down Louisville in 2003 and 2) Get a 25 spot bump in the rankings.

If we beat Dayton we probably jump into the 50s in the NET. We almost beat them once so why not finish them off this time.

It won’t be easy but all it takes is one game to completely reset your season. Xavier was in a free fall before they beat Seton Hall on the road and now they are back on track to a NCAA bid. Went from 63 in the NET to 45.
