I'm sorry, do elaborate, no links, just safe for work details.

Grandy Glaze has advertised a "premium snapchat" on his instagram account by posting videos of him lathering himself with soap in the shower and other "thirst trap" photos/videos. The only other premium snapchat accounts I know of are done by pornstars.

Wow wow wow! I’m 70+ and would be totally down with that before every game. Would definitely get fans in their seats for the start of the game.

Lets Party!

Show this to Andre. He will get it done. He already has the students mini choreographed before the games. Would need to put our own “name” on it. Can’t call it Havoc or Party, but our crackerjack marketing department could come up with something, don’t you think?

Where was he Saturday, by the way? Had to listen to Gus more than we normally do.

It would be great. When I saw the Bills play UNC at the deandome, they do something similar. Get the crowd rocking!

I hope the school is doing something to bring the students out on Sunday.  Anyone ever seen the Grand Canyon pregame party intros?  Seems like it creates an electric atmosphere for basketball and may drive younger fans to the games.  I believe they do this every game.  Saw this on the Valpo board where the main criticism was the same one I expect here - that their fans skew older and will not go for it.

This looks great, but I don't think any other program is going to give those prime seats to students.  Our students have been good so far, but this tends to drop off when their not being begged to show up and given free stuff.  We'll see.

I also noticed that the cheerleaders were actually assisting and, dare I say, leading the cheering.  Ours just seem to want to make crazy pyramids and wave incessantly at the crowd.  Maybe the AD needs to assign some cheerleaders to the specific task of working every game with the student section.  They should have stuff prepared that keeps the students involved and not looking at their phones.  Have stuff ready for the other teams foul shots other than waving large signs.

Also, is there a reason the band cannot be moved upward a bit and the students get both sides of the area behind the basket?

I’ll get my popcorn out for the responses to this one.

I recalled a good GCU bashing by you several years ago (maybe it was when Grandy transferred there?).  The follow up did not disappoint.  GCU sucks.

Yeah, I think I've bashed both GCU and Liberty multiple times here for their shady practices. Grandy's transfer makes sense in terms of timeline.

Liberty does the same thing as GCU in terms of aggressively selling its low-quality online program, which gives the school a ton of revenue with very low overhead, in order to help fund the main campus.

As you can tell, I have very low tolerance for institutional fraud.

Yeah, not a cult, but to 05's point, there's always been something a little off about the "school spirit" depicted in the videos I've seen.

It has a forced feel to it, like the North Korean "mourners" after Kim Jong-Il died.

This is a very good way of putting it. And like 05 says, they have academic incentives to show up and show their "spirit". It's all definitely a little bit off based on the eye test and when you dig a little deeper, it makes sense why things appear that way.

on that end of the arena, the band is your only consistent reliable loyal attendees.  as you yourself noted, you expect the attendance to drop off when/if slu stops with the incentives to come to the game.   the band is there come hell or high water.  and honestly they make as much noise as the students do.

It'll be crazy when he has to normie his name to something like Jeff Smuckers to do porn.  Something tells me he won't bother, though.

So gcu doesnt give actual credit and grades? i know they are accredited. just not sure why a basketball board bashes the academics at other schools, how does this pertain to billiken baskeball? if there is a need to do this, start on off topic thread

Dude I call it a cult for fun. It amuses me. It started as a for profit U and it has a weird history.

I think people started by saying that SLU should be able to pull what they did at GCU and other people noted that GCU did this by making participation for such activities a requirement for course credit.

Duke students have court side seats.

My comment wasn't a shot at the band.  I love the band.  My seats are in 102 very near it.  I totally agree with you about the band's participation beyond just playing instruments.  The question is, would the band suffer at all be being six row back, or could it do its thing musically and fan-wise just the same?  I personally don't think the band needs to be in the front row of that section to maintain its in game mojo.  Putting the students closer to the court increases their effectiveness and might keep more of them coming back.

I agree with you about games where the students don't show up in force.  Then, it would be better to move the band down.

guarantee you the people in front of the band would complain about the band's volume being blasted in their ears.

pretty sure it is common the pep bands at most schools sit front of the end zone at the basket the visitors are shooting at the second half.   i dont recall seeing any band sitting up in the stands.   i am sure some school(s) have it that way, but i am unaware of them.

btw, my seats are also in 102, and like billikenbooster, i picked them from the onset so i could be close to the band.

Sitting in front of the band is bad for your ears

My best guess for the student section not being on the sideline is twofold:

1. To sell premium seating to Billiken basketball.

2. Sideline bleachers would probably hinder the multipurpose nature of Chaifetz.

3.   And to help our team win the game - by distracting the other team shooting into that end of the court/shooting FT's when the game is on the line in the second half.

And while the students have shown up in recent years, and hope they keep coming, there have been many years where the student section is 20 students or less.   And while on Christmas break, student attendance drops back to very low levels..  No, our Billiken season ticket holders may be old, may leave early, may not like/appreciate the music/tastes of the team/students, may not know what Instagram is much less have an account... but they are sure loyal, have sure supported this program over the years, both financially and with their butts in the seats, have spirit wear older than the average age of the current students, have outlasted bad Presidents, bad Coaches, bad teams, have enjoyed and traveled with the good teams and good Coaches, have lived through conference changes from the Missouri Valley to the Metro, to the MCC, to the Great Midwest, to Conference USA and now to the A-10.  And in my opinion, our Billiken season ticket holders belong exactly where they are -- on both sidelines.
