There are significantly smaller metros with 2+ D-I programs. Louisiana Tech and Grambling State are both in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana (pop. <50,000). Virginia Tech and Radford share a metro area with 150,000 people. Spokane has over a half million people in the area. College sports didn't evolve like the pros. There are D-I schools in some odd places. true, but I guess im thinking this because Spokane is not only smaller, but in the absolute middle of nowhere. at least VT and radford are in a part of the country that high population isnt far. Perhaps once there was a rivalry, but most are long gone.
