Recruiting - 2023

Missed while on vacation: Brock Harding (SLU offer) committed to Iowa. I liked him as a possible YC replacement. Undersized but excellent floor general. He's from the Quad Cities and Iowa had been involved throughout but held off for a long time on offering. Once they did, they were his strongest offer and he took it. It'll be interesting to see if he sticks at that level. I think he's good enough but they're always going to be recruiting over you when you're 6 feet in shoes.

He played well at the Edwardsville Live Period event this weekend with Vashon.  Vashon's depth is overwhelming and as of now them and Staley are the two best MO HS teams.  Staley's two studs are definitely one to keep an eye on.  Kayden Fish just got an offer from Xavier after mainly low major interest and Kyan Evans is a dynamic point guard.  Jordan Pickett from Belleville East, Iziah Purvey from Webster Groves, and Bradley Longcor III from Quincy were other guys who stood out.

That's his first power conference offer - which is kind of stunning to me. His combo of size and skill/athleticism is unique.

wonder if this has as much to do with Dennis trying to connect ties with big schools like ESTL, and this is really the only kid right now to do so with.

east st louis is a fast shrinking student population.   they arent even in the largest class in Illinois any longer.  they compete down one level these days.

Are you trying to sell the idea that it isn’t a talent hot bed? Nailed it. No one is going to debate that kind of logic with lists of talented players over the last 5 years.

I meant big schools as in turns out D1 players(even though they've slowed down recently).  But I did not know ESTL dropped down a level, I assume same for football?

no it was just a comment about wgsl's claim east st louis is a big school.   just talking size.   nothing about talent.

East St. Louis's population has been spiraling to ever lower levels for decades now. Even back into the 80's East St Louis still had enough kids they had two high schools that would have qualified for what is now IL's 4A.

It has been a hard half century for metro IL's old industrial towns Like East St. Louis, Granite City, Madison, Venice, etc..  East St Louis Lincoln was IL's top basketball program in the 80's.  Venice and Madison had really outstanding basketball programs, too.

Will the recruiting push in Texas eventually land a player?

I'm glad to see we're still working places like the Bronx and Jersey City. I think we'll have a better chance in the East.
