We'll see how good this is for hoops.  It probably won't be great for the Bills this year.

better next year than this past season

Gibson Jimerson, step right up.

The other changes are pretty interesting, too:

  • The panel also approved resetting the shot clock at 20 seconds after a field goal attempt hits the rim and the offensive team rebounds the ball in the front court. The change is being made to enhance the pace of the game. The committee decided a full 30-second shot clock is not needed because the offensive team is already in the front court after securing the rebound. This was an experimental rule in the 2019 NIT, as well.
  • The panel approved a proposal where players will be assessed a technical foul should they use derogatory language about an opponent’s race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender expression, gender identify, sexual orientation or disability.
  • Coaches will be allowed to call live-ball timeouts in the last two minutes of the second half and the last two minutes of any overtime periods. Previously, coaches weren’t allowed to call any live-ball timeouts during the game.
  • In the last two minutes of the second half or the last two minutes of any overtime, instant replay review can be conducted if a basket interference or goaltending call has been made.

The technical foul one probably doesn't change what's already been called, for the post part. Just codifies it.

The shot clock one will be most impactful. That's probably a positive change overall, especially late in games.

I've never been a big fan of live-ball timeouts being called from the bench.

Shot clock rule will even further solidify the Billikens 20 point record.

I think it helps defensive teams and of course the inside and mid-range offensive game.  Both a plus for SLU .......

From his JUCO all star game footage, Perkins has mid-range chops a la Bess...in no way does this mean he’ll ever have the D prowess of Bess.

Coaches should not be allowed to call timeouts.

If a player is in trouble a coach should not be able to bail him out by calling a time out. Example: 10 second half  court violation . Coach should not be able to save a turnover by yelling timeout.

I get your point, but disagree. You only have so many to use, let em use them

Should coaches not be allowed to call out offensive or defensive sets during live play? Not trying to be snarky, but seems the calling of timeouts is within the purview of a person coaching a team.

Admittedly, I was only thinking of it from the standpoint of the Bills' offense — the Bills' less-than-sharpshooting guards (not Jimerson) may suffer with the arc pushed out further — but you make a good point that opposing teams will have to deal with the longer shot, as well.

In international play, the coaches can't call timeouts when the ball is in play.  They have to get a player to do it.  These rules changes appear to be inching NCAA basketball towards the international rules.  (I hope they don't use the trapezoidal lane, though.)

Just as calling out a play have your player say timeout. I’m not real crazy about football coaches letting the clock run down to 1 second then icing the kicker half the time as the ball is being kicked.
