SluSignGuy
Does anyone recall how the distribution of NCAA Tournament Money works in the Atlantic 10? For some reason, I thought it was that the school in the tournament gets half the money and the conference splits the other half. From a 2013, message board post, it appears the split is 75% to the team and 25% to the conference https://www.basketballforum.com/atlantic-10-conference/482378-atlantic-10-ncaa-units.html But I didn't know if these numbers were still accurate. For those interested, an NCAA game last year was worth about $1.7 million overall (to the conference and school, but different conferences divide the pie differently). So if the 75-25 number is still accurate, winning on Sunday was worth about $1.3 million. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/03/19/whats-an-ncaa-tournament-upset-worth-units-big-bucks.html
brianstl
I believe the 75-25 split is still accurate. Each unit is paid out over six years beginning the year after the the unit is earned. Last season SLU would have got around $1.3 million for six units total earned in the 2012-14 tournaments. This season it dropped to around $860,000 as the units for 2012 dropped off. Next season the 2013 units will be gone and the season after that the 2014 units will be gone. SluSignGuy likes this
