HoosierPal
OK, NCAA what are you going to do. You going to give LSU a high seed in this year's tourney with a tainted team, or are you going to bury your head in the sand and sanction the program three years from now when all have departed. Stand up for once and do the right thing.
billiken_roy
shaka trainee just the other day i was wondering, "how did LSU get so good so fast?"
gister
I'm sure none of this went on at VCU marshdylan likes this
HoosierPal
Dan Wolken, USA Today: "When the NCAA tournament begins in two weeks, LSU will be one of roughly a dozen teams for whom the Final Four will seem within reach. The Tigers, who have made just one tournament appearance in the last nine seasons, could even be a No. 1 seed. But after an explosive report Thursday by Yahoo! Sports, which obtained transcripts of a wiretapped phone conversation between coach Will Wade and black market deal-maker Christian Dawkins, LSU’s mere presence in the tournament is a mockery. It’s an embarrassment for the school, for the Southeastern Conference and for an NCAA justice system that is relying on the FBI to do its dirty work and still can’t take meaningful action in time to save the tournament from such obvious taint. And if anyone at LSU or the SEC actually had the sense to acknowledge what was right in front of them, they wouldn’t allow it to happen. If LSU was headed for the NIT rather than an SEC regular-season title with a win Saturday, there is little doubt the school would spend this afternoon in self-preservation mode, announcing a self-imposed postseason ban and a suspension for Wade, who has now been caught on a pair of phone calls with Dawkins alluding to transactions he would be willing to engage in that would likely violate NCAA rules. Instead, they will almost certainly deflect and deny questions about anything but basketball, hoping to glide through the next few weeks knowing full well their program has likely lodged itself on a ticking time bomb of NCAA penalties." I thought VCU fans had a case of sour grapes when they questioned his character shortly after his departure. Turns out they were 100% correct. Schasz
I am also a fan of the Vols as my wife graduated from UT. One ironic aspect as far as UT is concerned the LSU player involved in this situation scored 29 points in UT's 2 point loss at LSU. This could be more that just an indefinite suspension for Wade if the NCAA does the right thing. Don't worry I won't hold my breath!
Old guy
I agree with the consensus that the NCAA will do their own "adjustments" and not keep them out of the tournament.
JMM28
LSU might be the perfect program to bring the hammer down on. They are a P5 program but not historically good. There wouldn’t be too much backlash coming down on LSU as opposed to Arizona. Similar to Spumac v UNC.
slu72
If the NCAA does the right thing, some sort of penalties on the program, that won't make LSU a real attractive job for anyone looking to move up to the P5.
HoosierPal
Question of the day: If Wade made an offer to Javonte Smart, the assumption is that other schools also made offers. Why would Wade want to buy a player that no one else bid on. Is the NCAA attempting to dig further into this mess? LSU has no plans to skip the SEC or NCAA tourney. https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/sports/lsu/article_fc5d09be-41e3-11e9-9984-d3e43f1d122d.html LSU plays Vandy today. Will they play Smart? Will they sit him? They could play their JV squad and win this game. Senior Day will be exciting at Maravich Arena.
Clock_Tower
Maybe LSU just pulls a North Carolina and "self reports" and the whole thing goes away

I doubt the NCAA will do much digging as they would prefer to bury their head in the sand and treat these as one off situations despite everyone in the game knowing how prolific this cheating is. It appears that Smart's final 6 were Kansas, Kentucky, UCLA, Florida State, Oklahoma State, and LSU which includes a few of the schools that are part of the FBI investigation, so maybe it was well known he was up for sale. I found this from an article on 247 about his commitment to LSU. "The No. 17 overall prospect and No. 4 overall point guard committed to LSU over offers from Kansas, Florida State, UCLA and others. Wade got Smart to commit by selling him on being the face of LSU's new program under Wade and being able to lead the Tigers back to an NCAA Tournament." Maybe replace selling with buying. HoosierPal
Just read LSU will sit Smart tonight v Vandy. So they only win by 10 instead of 20. Whoopee. And if they have to forfeit all games he has played in, they end up with one win for this season??

ESPN has them as a second seed and made no mention of the situation what a joke. Allowing LSU to play in the big dance is a joke who knows how many of the current players have also been paid? Our we to believe only one player was paid? If one player was paid the other players should be mad that they did not. The NCAA should suspend the team now. Investigate and if the rest of the players are clean allow the clean players another year of eligibility if they transfer and suspend LSU for 2 years of any post season. Of course in reality the NCAA and doing the right thing, not going to happen.

What I (almost) would like to see happen is LSU win the whole darn tourney, and then have the NCAA have to face the national music on this one. "We, uh, we didn't have all the facts, uh,....innocent until we say guilty....uh, we will have them forfeit the title, uh, yeah, we, uh, kind of screwed this one up. We'll punish LSU five years from now when all the guilty parties are gone. But hey, the kid's family got some needed cash." Probably more just lesser amounts. Hoosier. Innocent until proven guilty may be reserved for Wade if he is criminally charged. This is NCAA policing its own. The FBI has already investigated and most likely has evidence of the money payment. If they dont by now, they will never have it. Easy case for the feds. I am all but certain the feds have followed the money, have the Mom’s financial records-paid bill receipts, have proof and evidence of the payments following tape of the promises to pay, have shown the same to the NCAA who has shown or started showing the same to LSU. Now, the team (LSU) needs to be banned. Next, expect to hear. “ LSU and Wade only did what every other school does and have done...”
mrjoelabs2
I am glad he got caught. Hated him at VCU. But they are going after him because he is an easy target. What about Coach K, Roy Williams, Calipari, etc... They get off scott free again and again. UNC literally had fake classes going, but somehow that story goes away. The NCAA never changes

dlarry
Will Wade reinstated. What a joke. I like the Sunday night news dump too. Tiger wins Master, Game of Thrones starts, NHL playoffs, NBA playoffs. This will slide ride under the radar. I guess recordings of cheating isn’t enough evidence? Schasz
Perhaps Coach Ford and Dr. Chaifetz got the message that cheating now is fine and they can now go about buying the best basketball team in SLU hoops history.

slu72
If the NCAA allows LSU to skate free from this then you have to ask why they even exist. It was bad enough when they let UNC off scott free, but here they have a coach on tape negotiating a payoff. Schasz likes this
