Taj79
Richmond's Big Three of Sherrod, Golden and Gilyard scored 57 of 88 as the Spiders beat St. Francis of Brooklyn easily yesterday. La Salle dropped to 0 and 3 with a loss at Florida. La Salle continues to be the Pookie-Powell-and-pray-for-rain show. The rest of their roster is really inconsistent ... and small. la Salle is starting four guards and their bench is three more guards out of the four they played. Their two 'bigs' are freshmen. In a time when La Salle is re-evaluating intercollegiate athletics, putting an inferior product on th ecourt in thei ronly revenue sport is not good. Some good ones tonight ..... St. Joe's (-3.5) takes on Wake in the opening of the Myrtle Beach Invitational; game time is 11:30 this morning (10:30 CST) and is on ESPNU. Davidson (-1) take son Wichita State in the opening of Charleston Classic. game time is 7 pm (6 CST) and is on ESPN3.

The Big East took a major wedgie last night from the Big 10, with Michigan dismembering Villanova, at Villanova, IU showing Marquette is a pretender, and as already noted Seton Hall melting down in Lincoln. In the ACC, Notre Dame lost to Radford at home. While the A10 might not be a three bid league, some of the other top dogs might lose a bid or two this season. Long way to go. Matty Light
I don't see how Nebraska will make the Final Four. It is certainly possible, but one thing is certain. Not being a blue blood program or having a history of basketball success, Nebraska could win the Big Ten going 30-4 and they would probably give them a 3 seed (see Iowa State 2000 or SLU 2013) or underrank other teams so that Nebraska has a ridiculously tougher road than the seed would indicate. They rig that crap so they push through the big brand names for the Final Four. It seemingly happens every year.

As bad as the A-10 has been, the one glimmer of hope is that the top half of the league (SLU, Davidson, St. Joes, Dayton, VCU) hasn't lost yet. Rhode Island is the only one with a mark against it. JohnnyJumpUp
20 hours ago, Old guy said: Wiz, I think you have made a mistake by declaring Pomeroy to be wrong at this time. This is plainly incorrect. You can claim to be closer to being correct than Pomeroy is at this time, and he can also claim exactly the same thing. The nature of basketball itself and the nature of statistics does NOT allow anyone to claim to be correct, as you yourself say, until there is enough data available. And then, even after the first 8 games, there will still be a certain margin of error in any probability statements made based upon the stats of X number of prior games. The margin of error will be markedly reduced after 8 games, allowing pretty accurate probabilistic estimates, and it will continue going down slowly as more data accumulates. There is always room for chance events, like injuries, to change things up significantly. You may change your opinion or your ranking or your predictions when the new data becomes available, and so can Pomeroy. In reality what you are both doing is refining your models with new data as it becomes available, and in doing so your results will approach those of Pomeroy's as the season progresses. The field of probability has no absolute rights and no absolute wrongs, what you both are providing is approximations to reality which will become increasingly refined and closer to one another in time. Control your hubris Wiz, you are very good at this game, but so is Pomeroy. Box and Won and JMM28 like this

Taj79
Nice win for St. Joe's yesterday. As I noted previously as a possibility, Taylor Funk went off in the first half hitting five threes and allowing the Joeys to stay with Wake for a 46-all tie at half. And then Funk went cold in the second hitting only one of two before fouling out. Funk played a half -- 18 minutes. But then Charlie Brown took over in the second, countering with four threes of his own and a career high 26 as the Joeys ran away to a 20-point win. Wake went extremely col d-- scoring only half (23) of what they score din the first half. An odd team box to say the least. Davidson showed loud and clear to be a two-man team. Grady and Gudmundsson. My opinion is such that Jon Axel is not a 30+ point scorer. He's good. He's not THAT good. They are extremely lucky Pritchett threw in ten because the other seven guys that played (including Grady) scored 14 total points between them. For the job the Shockers did on Grady (1-of-11 overall and zip in five tries from three) they must've forgot that backcourts have two players. Davidson shot 36% from the floor, but if you take way Jon Axel's 9-of-14, it drops to 26%. They were 27% from three and deducting Jon Axel, that drops to 18%. They shot 14 free throws .... and Jon Axel shot 13 of them. And for one more note, Jon Axel scored the last 12of Davidson's points down the stretch. Davidson now gets to play #23 Purdue in the Charleston Classic. Lots of action today, Friday, November 16. The Joeys are back at it in Myrtle Beach, playing UCF at 1:30 today (all times EST). Fordham (-1) hosts Florida International in something called the 'Johnny Bach Classic' at Rose Hill Gym at 6:00 pm. Davidson has #23 Purdue at 6:30 in Charleston. Purdue-Fort Wayne is at YouDee (-10.5) at 7:00 pm. IUPUI goes to Richmond (-7.5) also at 7:00 and Howard is at Umass. Harvard continues on the backyard tour, this time visiting Kingston and the Rhodeys. Those last two also tip at 7:00. Just a heads up for ugly -- Michigan plays Geedubya on Saturday at the casino in Uncasville, CT, in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off. That could be the MSOT ugly game on Saturday for the A10. Brajkovic could turn out to be that third option they need. He got schooled yesterday by McDuffie, but that is what happens when you have a freshman big going up against a senior like McDuffie. It seems injuries have limited EKwu and Kovacevic to being nothing more than spot minute guys. I feel sorry for Ekwu because after his sophomore season he looked like he really could be the kind of interior bruiser big Davidson never has and always has needed. slu72
Anyone have any idea why we are not in a Holiday classic this year? Charleston Classic already announced their 2020 field. It's another good one with St Joes in it. I can't figure out why we can't crack that field some year. I'd even travel the hour and a half to the Myrtle Beach Classic. That had a pretty good field as well. I don't consider the FSU game a tourney since if you win or lose you go home either way.
