Brighton
I was a teenager at the time. It was a perfect storm. No NFL, The Cardinals were struggling in the post-Gussie Busch era, and the Blues were, well, The Blues. Could history repeat itself ? dennis_w
It was suggested that it be a perfect time for slu to get into football with the cardinals gone and an unused busch stadium in the fall. packed houses at the arena then scottrade were awesome
Brighton
I don't think the athletic dept has enough money for that.

Quality Is Job 1
Nice! The 2018-19 squad has the potential to surpass that level, but the thing that makes me hesitate is the lack of continuity — and potential lack of chemistry — compared to the 1994-95 squad. That Spoonball-era squad was returning everyone, except Donnie Dobbs, from a squad that had reached the 1994 NCAA Tournament and had few newcomers. The '19 squad has more athleticism but may come up short in skill — particularly perimeter shooting (even David Robinson occasionally knocked down some three-pointers) — by comparison. Let's hope they have as much heart and tenacity. I do like the tenacity of the holdovers from 2017-18.

Dude was like 4’2” and played forward like a beast.

cheeseman
Spoon had the city in the palm of his hand but as good as that team was they never made it out of the first weekend of the Tourney.

They may but the point is valid. Baniak and to a lesser extent Tatum prove the point. The argument ends with Larry Sssssssssssssssimons. cheeseman
Spoon did not like recruiting - Hughes fell into his lap being from StL and the desire for him to be close to his brother who had to have heart transplant. When Hughes left after he got Love to sign he was very disappointed. He had hoped that Larry would stay one more year and play with Love - he always thought that was his Sweet 16 team. As it turned out, Love hurt his back that first year so Hughes staying would have been moot. Spoon did well recruiting at the JC level but was never very consistently good with high school players. He simply did not want to put the time in to recruit - he was too busy living his life. Bottom line he was a great floor coach but not so great a recruiter. When he left us and went to UNLV he was not successful either. If you can not recruit to LV then were can you? dennis_w likes this
brianstl
In each of his two full seasons at UNLV Spoon won 21ganes while UNLV was on NCAA probation. His first class at UNLV included future first round draft pick Marcus Banks and future NBA player Louis Amundson. His second class had two time first team all conference player Odartey Blankson. His last class wasn’t very good.
