2018-19 season

I think the guy that's going to surprise everyone is Wiley. Because of his height he can easily back up Bess in addition to giving breathers for Isabel and Goodwin. Gonna be fun watching these guys come together. If they all buy into teamblue and check their egos at the door, watch out!

Let's hope that is exactly what happens.

You have mentioned two interesting items that will develop throughout the season.

First is Wiley subbing for Bess.  They have two entirely different skill sets.  Bess is a driver and rebounder.  Wiley is a three point shooter.  Different looks for sure.  It will be interesting to see Ford's rotation.  Bess and Goodwin are targeted for 30+ minutes, in my opinion.   I don't have a good feel for Isabell yet, under Ford's game plan.  For discussion purposes, let's give Isabell 30 also.  (He went 34.4 mpg last season.)That leaves plenty of minutes (30) for Wiley but few for anyone else in the backcourt.  (Wiley hit 21.7 mpg last season.)

Second is buying into Team Blue and checking egos at the door.  This is huge.  Ford listed Chemistry first on his recent Rothstein interview when asked what they are working on in practices.  Both Isabell and Wiley mentioned making contributions as to why they wanted to come to SLU.  Will fewer minutes and fewer shots be acceptable for them?  Will they buy into hopefully more wins (for the team) with a diminished spotlight on them individually?  We all certainly hope so.  Same with the freshmen.  All five won't get equal or even meaningful minutes.  Will they still buy into Team Blue?  Time will tell.

This is where the depth comes in really handy.

If you aren't buying into "team Blue" or doing what is asked of you you will find your ass on the bench.

In years past the depth wasn't there to sit talent.  This year there is.

It’s factual but as everybody on this board will tell you high school star ratings don’t mean .

False. In the A-10 that is a big deal and is directly correlated with winning A-10 programs (VCU, Dayton, RI). And the topic is publicity. Highly ranked recruits bring more buzz.

There wasn’t even as high of a ceiling projected for one of our best teams in recent years. Remember we were picked by almost everyone to lose to 12 seed NCstate? We have significantly more depth and talent than that team this year. And yes it is due to recruiting high level players with NBA potential
