TheChosenOne
One can enjoy and celebrate Jayson’s success whether because he is from St. Louis, went to Chaminade, or apparently because he is the son of a woman who went to law school at SLU and a man who played basketball at SLU, etc. while also acknowledging it is has close to zero impact on SLU. I view it as more of a famous St. Louisian and a proud one at that as he is legit one of the top few players in the NBA and still so young vs. having much true relevance to SLU. I follow him closely because I went to Chaminade and have a relationship with their coach so I get to hear about Jayson and the things he does outside of basketball including continuing to be involved with their program in different ways, I’m not sure how big of a fan I’d be absent that connection. Based on just how elite he has become I’d probably still be a fan and follow closely, but certainly not as much. And the SLU ties don’t move the needle for me, so I understand why folks who aren’t from St. Louis have their opinion. His mother went to highschool with Kshoe. He likes Imos pizza. End of story. i dont know about taj, but myself, i pretty much detest all basketball these days EXCEPT the Billikens. So count me in with Taj. i used to be a basketball junkie. but the last 5-10 years and the way the sport has went (especially NBA) no interest. my sports interest now is mostly baseball and Billikens now. nothing else. Billikenbooster
Roy, can’t wait to see how our STL Cardinals do against the Braves next week. Just could decide the wild card for the playoffs if it breaks right for our Cards! Watcha say, bro?

Just could decide the wild card for the playoffs if it breaks right for our Cards! Watcha say, bro? Mike you know i am a big Braves fan. ive got tix for the Wednesday night game. braves are playing without 3 of their best players, harris, acuna and strider and still have the 4th best record in the national league. last week they gained 4 games on the phillies, who are without a doubt the best team in the league thus far. cardinals likely will be held back again by the cardinals refusal to pay money across the board. they bank on a trade bouncing their way or a minor leaguer coming through to add to there couple of stars. lately those two methods to support goldschmidt and arenado havent panned out much and when those two cant carry the team or has an off season, they are done. but as long as the cardinal fans keep showing up at a 3 million per season rate, dewitt isnt changing. it's frustrating to see all the younger good players that were once under the cardinal control having success throughout the year that would have been perfect players to lift the cardinals along with arenado and goldschmidt. while i am a brave fan first, i love baseball and if the cardinals arent playing the braves, i root for the cardinals. but wednesday i will be wearing navy blue. sorry. almaman
the imaginary man on second extra inning rule & shortening of the base paths & also slipping DH in NL has really soured me on the product. minute by minute most boring sport of the 5 majors imo but the tradition & integrity of the historic records & statistics gave it a consistency marking it compelling despite lack of action. now all. that has been shat on in the pursuit of ratings. Braves were favorite behind Cards when I was a kid because Hank was my favorite player. I was 9 when The. Man retired & next 20 years HRs rare round here so Milwaukee with 6 guys with 20 or more taters were quite attractive. then they move to up & coming Atlanta & join our Hawks. Billikenbooster
I guess we’ll just have to see how they do on the field. Crazy StL 1 game over .500 and they’re a wild card team right now!

Phils, dodgers, yanks, baltimore and cleveland are currently seemingly the class of baseball. it will be interesting to see if they can maintain that pace. Taj79
There are six teams in the NL currently over .500 and tow of them, the Cardinals and the Padres, only by one game. The Al has seven. It would appear that there is a lot of mediocrity in the NL this year. Going to get my first in-person glimpse of PNC Park in Pittsburgh in July. slu72
I passively root for Tatum. He has SLU ties with Hughes, his mom, and dad. I think he has open gym privileges at Chaifetz which is a plus especially for FR recruits. But the real reason behind my casual support is he chose Duke over playing for Crews. If he’d come here he may well have saved Crews’ job. He would have dominated the A10 and likely got us an NCAA invite which would have made it impossible to fire Crews. billiken_roy
No excuses. Without acuna and harris, just not last years braves. They have lowered themselves a lot. Last year one out and based loaded would have been an explosion. This year not the norm
cgeldmacher
Jayson Tatum just signed a five-year $314M extension. I wonder if the exact amount of the deal was a nod to his hometown. brianstl likes this
