OT: Former SLU Club Hockey Player Suits Up for Blues

Probably good timing for a feel-good story. Tyler Stewart, a 25-year-old grad student at Maryville who played club hockey at SLU, is the emergency backup on call at goalie for the Blues. Carter Hutton was hurt and they weren't sure if the AHL affiliate goalie could be in St. Louis in time, so he got the call. Husso, the AHL goalie, did get there in the first period and Allen had a shutout so no one was needed, anyway, but he was there for pregame warmups and talks, and was in the dressing room for the first period before going back to his season ticket seats when Husso arrived. Great story.

any idea what he got paid for last night?   i.e a jersey with his name on it and signed by the team and maybe a few signed tarasenko items?

It is pretty awesome that hockey has this rule that allows for a situation like this.  Obviously goalie being a unique position makes it more of  a necessity in hockey, but wouldn't it be cool if a random amateur could be pulled out of the stands to pitch for the Cardinals or as a placekicker for an NFL team in a pinch?

Trying to tie things back to college basketball somehow, it would be cool if the NCAA allowed maybe team managers to play in an emergency situation like when Alabama had to play with 3 players recently.

He was on 590 this morning - he is the emergency back up for all games - so he can play for either team. Did not get paid - but gets season tickets/parking pass and has to bring his equipment to every game, just in case.

He was on The Morning After this morning. Apparently it’s a standing arrangement. He gets free season tickets and parking. He has to have his gear in his car in case either team needs an emergency goalie. Other than the tickets, parking, and some gear/memorabilia he got last night, he isn’t paid any money. He said it was due to professional/amateurism considerations.

Finally, apparently this guy is an occasional texter into TMA, which if you listen, makes it all more amusing.

season tickets and a parking pass is more than i would have expected for a childhood dream of sorts.   pretty cool stuff!

Same here. It's rare to see an everybody-wins sort of situation in pro sports these days. Love it.

Managers are allowed to play if they're put on the roster a certain amount of time ahead of the game, right? I think it was Auburn who put their manager in as PG late in a Tournament game several years back. Then they had to pull him because he turned it over like 6 times in a row and almost blew it.
