Isn't normally pretty standard to update the mascot at the same time you roll out a new logo?

The timing makes little sense. I had heard that SLU had the new mascot head and suit last season. For some reason though, they decided to roll it out at a soccer game on a Tuesday night in September.

Add it to the list. The big logo reveal was 5:30 on a Friday night with a few hours' notice, and the alternate uni reveal was in a throwaway game in the middle of the season.

Maybe they're doing a soft roll-out as a form of focus group.

Is this the right forum to point out that this is happening during the mandatory NCAA no mascot period?  Come on compliance office you had one job.

Of course all of this assumes the roll out of the new Billiken was a carefully planned event. It just may not have been so, just a matter of expediency, Like: "we need the new Billiken out yesterday, how about doing it tonight?" That is the night before they did it. With the extra added "no mascot period" we add to the complexity and lack of thinking involved in this decision. Anyone thinks this was carefully planned?

During this period the mascot can text, but only using old school shorthand. In addition they are allowed to communicate using smoke signals or morse code. They also can only be seen in disguise or wearing camo.

This gives UAB, Western Kentucky, West Virginia and Sacred Heart an unfair advantage.

Well, two. When they see your posting rank, they should put you into protective custody before tomorrow.

The gray was way too dark. It was used in the logo for depth. You don't need to show depth on the 3D head
