brianstl
Bobby Knight was 25 when Army hired as head coach. I am not saying that you hire Halen, but he shouldn't be dismissed as a candidate. He successfully sold himself to more top level players than any SLU coach has ever done.
MB73
Spud Webb won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest 30 years ago, too. But 5'7" guys are not usually the ones to depend on in that situation. So Hanlen is another Bobby Knight, OK, you clearly have proven it.

shempie
If you want to hire a coach that has proven he can recruit and get players, names like Josh Pastner or Anthony Grant (who is now an assistant with the OKC Thunder) come to mind. I really don't have much interest in either of those guys either and they seem like a more advanced version of DH. Majerus was outside the box. Ben Howland would have been outside the box also. With money, anything is possible and if the good doctor (and others) are willing to step forward, who knows who might be interested? I guarantee Chris Mays has a list. We might not like it, but every AD has one for the high profile spots. And I don't see him risking his job on a 25 year old with no head coaching experience, regardless of pedigree. Chris May was responsible for McGinty; I cringe when I think about his basketball coach wish list.
slu72 fan
Chris May was responsible for McGinty; I cringe when I think about his basketball coach wish list. In all due respect, almost everyone thought McGinty was a Great hire.

But the further the SS McGinty has sailed into open waters, the more I regret hopping aboard. The program has regressed.
Old guy
...I guarantee Chris Mays has a list... And I don't see him risking his job... Exactly the point that needs to be made, Mays is not going to risk his job by taking what could be considered a rash action by those above him. Cowboy
-the ADirector is Chris May, it might be good to know his name and while a guess, I doubt he is related to Willie Mays
Billiken75
I always thought a great Head Coach hire would be Chris Harriman. Conk as one of his asst. coaches.

How does he find time to run the AD? Simple, the Chris May you show in that website is located at the University of Nevada, Reno, not at SLU. Just read what he says, he gives his email at unr.edu. The name Chris May is not so rare that every website for Chris May belongs to the same person. This website is interesting but it does not belong to the Chris May AD at SLU

DeSmetBilliken
Chris May was responsible for McGinty; I cringe when I think about his basketball coach wish list. He also hired Lisa Stone. While we haven't seen the finished product, things seem to be looking up on the women's basketball side, at least until their loss to SIUE. I might have seen that posted earlier on another thread.

Not sure, but that could be. She was hired after the 2011-12 season, so Rick may have been able to make a recommendation. There could have been a Wisconsin connection. BigMouthBilliken
Your post BigMouthBilliken makes me feel strangely reassured. Sorry, but guess you don't understand sarcasm as the poster blatantly knew that Chris May wasn't the writer of that blog yet you decide to "show off your wit" and deduce why it cannot possibly be the SLU AD Chris May. Well done.
