JettFlight5
Basically Grandy will be out there to grab a few boards and knock Warren down 5 times. He'll be playing the role of enforcer.
slufan13
I almost put a not good defender on Warren. Hes going to get 25 points no matter what. Make the other guys beat us and avoid getting any of our best players in foul trouble because you know Warren will get the calls. Warren is good enough to beat us himself but I'd rather it be that than one of their meaningless role players.

Hopefully, we get smooth patient DE Thursday.

Warren is great, but he's going to have to work harder than tonight to get good shots. Outside of him, not impressed with NCSt.

Bizziken
As stated before, we have to stop transition buckets. We all saw how Bonaventure lit us up in transition...we get back on D and we have a good shot. That goes hand in hand with protecting the ball... Billikenboy
Game plan should be to guard Warren by committee. We basically have 15 fouls to give. DE never guards him. He is too big for DE. Job will fall on TL, GG, and possibly RA if he is healthy. He may score 25 on them but it will be more about the number of shots it will take to do it. In doing so he basically take the rest of his team out of the equation while we have balanced scoring. Our defense will cause NC State problems throughout. Bills by 9 or more points. Limit the damn TO as well to under 8. We need tight guard play and stifling defense so we can go chop down Louisville.

moytoy12
It won't surprise me to see JJ on Warren quite a bit along with DE, with fleeting moments of defense by GG, and some time from JB.

Billikenboy
Maybe when both or one of them ends up in foul trouble then my logic will make sense. When you have a scorer of this nature you are not gonna stop him but one thing is for sure, you put DE on him and he is in foul trouble. You put JJ on him same result. I do not buy for a minute you can D Warren up with shorter guys like DE or JJ. If DE & JJ are free to do their thing you will have potent offense throughout the game. At least with GG, TL, and possibly RA those are big fresh bodies Warren fight with all night who have 15 fouls to give. Doubt he gets 50 and if he did we would have 80.! By the way, JB on Warren is a joke. Too big, too quick, too easy. You gotta make this guy earn it being guarded by mobile bigs and change it up constantly so he never gets use to one defender. It wil be interestiing to see how the staff handles this individual matchup nightmare. After this win we will get the Russdiculous show. Both him and Warren do not have a shot they do not like and will keep shooting the rockk
hoops4rus
Honestly neither of these teams have impressed me. Warren will be a tough match up but other than that they don't have much. Jordair may have a career day against their white PG. Saint Louis appears to be a very good team and it should be an exciting game with NC State. I think it is important to note that the white PG you are referring to was a McDonald's All-American. His back up (Cat Barber) was also a McDonald's All-American. I got to give it you guys as you all are a very confident fan base. Here's to a good clean game. Also I wouldn't start claiming that someone will have a career day with Beejay Anya guarding him. Beejay Anya does not get a ton of minutes, but his playing time is dedicated as a defensive specialist. He blocks a lot of shots and his wingspan (7'9") is believed to be one of the longest in the history of basketball. Longer than Shaq, longer than Kevin Durant, even longer than Michael Olowokandi. hoops4rus
Apparently TJ Warren is the second coming of Christ and we have no chance to stop him... The thing with TJ Warren is he struggled last night and he scored 25. He is not someone that gets a lot of points because he shoots all the time. He not only led the ACC in scoring but also field goal percentage. NC State is certainly not a world beater team as they are a very young team that has struggled at times. They have over the past month been playing excellent basketball.
billikenbill
Apparently TJ Warren is the second coming of Christ and we have no chance to stop him... There's more truth to this than not, at least the second part of the sentence. The guy is essentially unstoppable at this level. Keep Dwayne and JJ as far away from him as possible. Hope Tanner can challenge him if he gets the chance.
slufan13
I'm afraid to put Dwayne on Warren. Warren is going to score. I don't want him also picking up fouls on Dwayne too.
majerus mojo
Analytical look at the affects of winning a "play-in game": http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/dayton-does-matter/ "Since 1980, 61 percent of 109 teams that had to win an opening or first-round game exceeded SRS expectations in their next game, against an opponent with a bye. The data set spans the play-in games of the past 13 tournaments, plus the opening rounds and first rounds in the early 1980s, when more teams got at least one bye. And the average team outperformed its rating relative to its opponent by two points. An extra layup doesnt matter in a blowout, but it could swing a close 5-12 matchup." slufan13
A team playing in the Tuesday "play in" game has never won their next game in the Tournament. Small sample size but maybe the quick Selection Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday turn around makes a difference? Just a lot going on for the players in a small period of time. Maybe that extra day for the Selection Sunday/Wednesday/Friday makes a difference. Probably not but figured it was worth saying. Billiken fans love optimism. NCSLU
I think we match up well against NC State, but it won't be an easy game. Bobby Lutz (formed UNC-Charlotte head coach, coached vs. SLU for 10+ years) is an assistant at NC State. I'm not sure how much that will help them prepare, however he is very familiar with SLU...even Majerus/Crews style of defense. Warren will be tough, but our defense can handle it. We just need to right SLU team to show up tomorrow!
