Oh wow. I'm glad I brought that up because I wrongly had it in my head for a long time that Daniel Lisch's one year scholarship was one of your main beefs with Majerus. I definitely appreciate your opinion more now even if I don't necessary agree with it.

I still fondly remember when Brian Conklin broke down after the Michigan State game and paid homage to Coach Majerus. I’d be interested to know how the other members of that team felt about Coach M. Not denying Rickma was a basketball genius. Even i enjoyed his oncourt management and his ability to get his players to play his way. Both seem to be less emphasized in today's game where it's more about recruiting and the ability to reload every year. However I greatly disliked the fact Rickma used teenagers to fill his roster and then discarded them if their only fault was they didn't live up to the skill level and development he had envisioned. Conklin is a great example of the kid that overachieved and by his senior year was exactly what rickma envisioned. Good for Conklin. And while rickma gets some great credit for what Conklin turned into. He also gets credit for the unplanned rocky and in some cases failed journeys for all those players he cutted from his teams as well. Joe, I don't think you are going to be able get many if any minutes for us now or in the future. I honestly think you might be better off at a school where you can play. If you'd like I'll help you find a place that is a better fit for you. Is this running a kid off? Or would you consider that an acceptable conversation? MY feeling is if that's truly the way a coach feels, any conversation that doesn't basically say that is a disservice to the player. Now if a kid says. I understand coach but I want to stay and prove you wrong. As long as he is a good student, teammate, and puts out max effort I'd tend to agree. If a player doesn't really give his all and work hard to improve and be as good as he possibly can, imo is a bad teammate and can go. I get that's a subjective issue. But honestly I doubt many players want to stay if they've been told there aren't going to be minutes for them. I wouldn't. crymdg2
@thetorch, anything you've seen or heard about Bess getting an invite to a training camp this year? A quick Google search brought up nothing and it looks like he's not on the Pelicans roster.

I can't remember what exactly the answer was and it I think it was vague. Something like he was not currently planning on going overseas, hoping to catch on with an team NBA team / G-League team, but his agent was still working on things. I'm assuming that was taped close to a month ago, and camps are starting to open now, hence the question as to if there's been any movement. Of course it's not an easy conversation but not having it with a player is truly the injustice to the player

Of course it's not an easy conversation but not having it with a player is truly the injustice to the player I think most folks would agree with this. I think this year we even found out about the ability for guys to remain on full scholarship at a school if they are essentially cut from the team (saw this at Nebraska). I also don't want to continue the discussion too much, but my understanding early on was that Majerus wouldn't necessarily have those conversations and it was more of the old pink slip in the locker type situation. With Ford I am confident that he would lay it all out for guys and help them find a new home, definitely seems like a player's coach through and through. 3star_recruit
Majerus didn't have a lot of patience for guards who didn't contribute right away. Hence the revolving door of guys who were 8th/9th in the rotation. That was his way but sometimes if you stick with a guy, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Our own Demarius Jacobs is a good example. A guard with his freshman numbers would never have survived under Majerus. TheChosenOne likes this

My understanding was is he did not have those frank discussions with guys Soderberg recruited. I think he went in assuming any underclassmen of that group were not worth keeping. I believe he did have those talks when things weren’t working out with his guys. I don’t know how much of a chance he gave any of those guys. I believe he later admitted that if he’d known how good Danny Brown could be, he would have had him redshirt his senior year and kept him around longer.
