Great Article in the NYT

Can I call it that, NH? ;)

“We’d tell recruits, the pool table and all that stuff is in the student union,” said Jim Whitesell, the associate head coach. “The classroom is where you prepare to win. This is what we’re about. This is our culture.

Love that line.

Great stuff. RM generated so much great positive press for the university and the program. The challenge will be to maintain this level and build on it. I love how Whitesell breaks down the student section. Remember back in the old days when people used to always complain about the student section? Those days are long gone and there is now a real basketball atmosphere on campus. Great stuff. Speaking of the students, they were technically on spring break for the LaSalle game correct? Considering that was the case, the student section was awesome.

Great article, but I can nitpick on a couple of things. Sweet Caroline was not played over loudspeakers and the Chase is not downtown.

I wrote the author to tell him that, among the write-ups by the media about the Bills (locals excepted), this was the best I've seen. I particularly liked the "Spirit of Saint Louis" line, even though it is a cliche.

It got me thinking -- I haven't seen many good wallpapers to show support of the Bills. So I made one with RM and that cliche.

Anyone see any good SLU MBB wallpaper lately? Please share if you have.

UPDATE: Some are here. Hidden, of course.

Good slideshow, too. Never saw the pallbearer photo. Sad stuff. The other photos are great. The pictures of the players hanging out at team dinner, in the practice facility, Chaifetz packed with blue... I'm sure if you asked our players, aside from the TV coverage, they're getting every bit of the experience of the Kansas, Duke, UNC players. They're definitely becoming rock stars among their peers, and rightfully so. I would have included Kentucky in that list, but there's no way we can pay like Kentucky can.

Such a wonderful season and lots more to follow. It was really great getting to see the majority of the games on TV. Great article and now I am reading Coach Majerus book. Very good read for fans of Coach even though it took place before his SLU coaching time. Coach Majerus never did chase the McDonald's AA kids.

"So proud to be a Billiken. Those pics brought a tear to eye...more than once."

I have to say this has been the most emotional year I have ever had in over 50 years as a Billiken fan. Each story about the players, Coach Rick, Coach Crews, the cheerleader that battled back from cancer, Joshua Brown-our most ardent little fan, Crews' former players at Army - my goodness I even teared up when the band played the Australian National Anthem for Cody and his parents.

I hope the successes of this year can be repeated, but I doubt any team will be in everyone's hearts like this years. Thank you all.
