if he is travelling for work then it makes perfect sense to have a "company card"...i dont see any other way around it.

you do what 90% of corporate america does. let the employee pay for it with his or her own card/cash, obtain a receipt and then submit an expense report explaining the need to be reimbursed.

Here we go again SLU fans making something out of nothing when it comes to Mizzou. Look, you send a guy to Vegas for a conference and you expect him not to have a few lap dances ( a hundred or so doesn't seem like that many, you know those songs are pretty short) and a few bottles of Kristal.

This seems like ordinary expenses to me

Clearly you don't work in corporate America. His boss didn't want it on his own card, so he said "hey videographer...go get that chick to sit on your lap in the back and charge this whole night in." He did.

Being a consultant and traveling for business and having friends that works for accounting firms and are regular business travelers, the situation itself is not unusual as far as having a company credit card for business expenses. However, the highly entertaining and idiotic part of the story is him using that company credit card for a real lively night out at the strip club. Based on what we have seen at State U I am assuming he felt fairly confident that this would pass right through without mention. That is a big bill, zj maybe?

when i say "90% of corporate america", you do know that most of american business is not the likes of Bank of America? sure the big boys do it backwards. but the smaller companies do it the right way. of course it is the big boys like B of A that got us in trouble but continue to make the rules.

I heard he came to SPUMAC after a job at Savvis.

Perhaps y'all would like to see the actual full story that the KCBJ regurgitated and, if I'm reading it correctly, improperly attributed (the P-D didn't report it; AP did):

Anyway, the "disciplinary action," in any real business, would have included summary termination. Remember, the dude didn't simply reimburse SPUMAC; he got caught in an audit. (In a prior job, I had an AMEX that I sometimes put more than $100,000 on for client parties -- 400+ attendees. Had I put on ANY personal expense, I would have been reprimanded; we actually had a case of someone doing a $1000+ expense and being fired the day it came out.)

This is, of course, the land of no-firings-when-an-"athlete"-takes-20-hours-in-summer-courses, so I bet this moron -- and whoever is in charge of approving his charges, and whoever is in charge of financial oversight for the athletic department -- keeps their jobs.

He knew this expense went on his corporate card and obviously did nothing about it, otherwise he would have immediately aknowledged his mistake and reimbursed the school. Really dumb. I think the only one related to the University that does any firing is Gary Link.

I still don't understand the problem with a guy having a few bottles of Kristal and some lap dances at his employers expense while on a business trip.

It's no different than preventative health care. Kristal relaxes you while a couple of lap dances and maybe a hand job or two for stress relief. These business conventions are very stressfull. How much would it have cost Mizzou if the guy had a heart attack in Vegas?

Sounds like a former employee of mine who went to Vegas for a mining convention. He came back and submitted $600 in expenses for renting a motorcycle. I asked him did he take a client for a ride on a Harley, and to his credit he said, "the escort's brother owned a Harley dealership and said he'd take his card and reimburse his sister." How could I reject that? Plus, he was really good at his job.

I would highly doubt this was the employee's first out of town with the Mizzou credit card. Not saying the racked up $7000 at strip clubs in the past (this may be his first using the Mizzou credit card) but it does make you wonder what he was thinking and why he thought he could get away with this. A pattern of unquestioned dinners, drinks and entertainment... leading up to this?? Even with this Vegas trip, no problem with his supervisor or department -- just the auditor well after the fact. Guess he figured there would be no audit.

When you have to pay for a weekend's worth of cocaine out of your own pocket, obviously the lap dances and handies in the Champagne Room are going on the corporate card.

Dixon & Bull suspended.
