When Michael Nierdorff died Centene lost a lot of it’s St Louis connection. It would not shock me that over time that we would lose our largest S&P 500 company.

The same guy threatening to leave STL?

Leaving STL means moving Centene's headquarters somewhere else. On the other hand they are doing a far subtler move that will take a fair amount of income away from STL. They are abandoning the concept of building buildings to house their employees and provide them with a place of work for the concept of doing work anywhere using digital means. This will certainly reduce the income of STL in a possibly significant way. It is not only the real estate taxes that will be reduced, but the number of people traveling into and out of STL that need to use hotel accommodation within STL to do business with Centene that will be much decreased. At this time large numbers of Centene employees meet from time to time for a few days of bonding together meetings in fun places like Orlando. If this business model works for them, STL will lose a fair amount of income, whether their headquarters move elsewhere or not. Last time I checked Centene had about 80,000 employees. Oh, and talking about losing business to elsewhere, the finance departments of the Local Boeing Corp (perhaps not only the local ones but all of them) are being moved to India, and lots of people are being let go. These are well paying jobs lost.

That stadium is turning into a fiasco.

The press for some reason keeps trying to blame the city for the electrical problems at the stadium, but this is one time the city actually isn't at fault.  St Louis CITY SC and their stadium contractors didn't follow Missouri law and properly notify the installation of the underground conduit lines.  A city contractor then damaged the lines digging in the street because they weren't marked on One Call. CITY SC is lucky no one from the city's contractor got killed.  CITY SC then refused the contractor's request to immediately repair the lines telling them they would have their own contractor do the work.

The lines weren't repaired or sealed in anyway at St Louis CITY SC's request and then heavy rain moved in the next day.  Rain water then got into the conduit lines and fried CITY' SC's electrical system and flooded their electrical room.

City SC must have been too busy working with their "flavor officer' curating the stadium's menu.  They are going to be lucky if the stadium is ready by the start of next season.

I know the menu thing is in jest, but they're featuring a ton of local businesses for food options, which is a net positive despite the crappy contracting fiasco.

You are 100% correct. Neither the city nor its contractor have any liability in this whatsoever.

.

If they were going to leave, they wouldn't have cancelled the east coast headquarters in Charlotte two months ago.  They would have just announced they were moving everything to Charlotte.  The most vocal investors want them to slash costs and St. Louis is a really cheap location for Centenne to operate their headquarters out of.

I agree and besides working from home or remote areas is going to impact all cities as businesses start to adapt,

What a mess.  When it rains, it pours, literally and figuratively.

Both are correct in some way, but it must be recognized that there is no need for new a headquarters building when the bulk of the employees are working remote. At this time Centene is busy getting the company to work smoothly with a mostly remote work force. After this change from employees working at a set workspace to employees working remote, a headquarters move becomes much easier. After changing the company to the use of a remote workforce, all they need to do to transfer the company headquarters to another jurisdiction is to move a few individuals to a new location and comply will the applicable legal requirements.

I think the possibility of Centene transferring headquarters out of St. Louis should be taken seriously by the City.

Hopefully that means they'll be open in time to watch the Auburn game. Memphis/Maryland/Miami sound doubtful.
