Recruiting Rankings

Go to CNNSI.com and read Luke Winn's column on ranking recruiting classes. Briefly, it points out this is a guessing game at best, unless you pull in classes of NBA picks ala Ohio State and UNC last year. In 2003, Florida State had the highest ranked class yet didn't make the NCAA in the last 4 years. Go figure. This just proves you don't need nos 1-50 to succeed. Still I'd like to have Suggs along with Thompson. By the way, this hasn't got much build up here, but RM was heard to say he "loves" the Mitchell kid. Is he really a hidden gem type?

Mitchell is an extremely hard worker. He has really improved over the Spring. He worked hard for this opportunity and does not want to disappoint. I'm sure Majerus loves Mitchell's versatility and potential at the PG spot. He is definitely a hidden gem.

>Anthony? Seems that is the kid he is able to actually talk

>about.

Majerus mentioned Anthony Mitchell at his introductory press conference and said meeting him reminded Majerus of meeting guys like Andre Miller when they were in high school.

He wasn't talking about Mitchell's basketball ability, because I doubt he'd seen Mitchell play at that point.

Roy, I know you have seen A. Mitchell numerous times. I understand he played wing at Eastside. What do think about the thought of converting him to a PG in college? Does he have that sort of handle potential? We've needed a big, physical PG who can take the pounding, ball pressure one sees from several of the A-10 teams such as GW. With Danny Brown's knees a big question-mark for next season, the door is open for Anthony Mitchell to get minutes his freshman year.

i dont see mitchell as a point guard. he seems to me to be more of a finisher not a starter. and i still beleive a point guard should be first a starter and second the scorer.

If Danny Brown is healthy next year, Mitchell is the odd man out in the two deep rotation....

C Husak Knollmeyer

PF Eberhart Relphorde

SF Meyer Maguire

SG Lisch Brown

PG Liddell Polk

so I definitely could see Mitchell redshirting next year and working to refine his pg skills which are already pretty decent. He's comfortable with the ball and a willing passer. He's already good at starting the break. He often rebounded the ball and pushed it up the court and initiated the offense. He'll never be the starting pg, but he could come off the bench and provide some solid minutes at that position. If DB is healthy next year than I dont have a problem with him staying as a wing, but I think he might be glued to the bench and have a year of eligibility wasted like Brad wasted Maguire and Knollmeyer last year.

You're putting a lot of stock in Maguire after a sub-par freshman season. Granted he didn't get a lot of time, but I don't see him as a big minutes guy. If he finds his shot, he seem like a 10-15 mpg role player type of guy. Zone buster...3 pt specialist. My hope is that Mitchell could be more than that.

two different Mitchell's here, eh boys? I believe Majerus said he liked Anthony Mitchell when he met him at the press conference. I believe you guys have mixed the Mitchell's up in this thread. I don't think Anthony Mitchell is any sort of a point guard but I could be wrong.

Danny Brown is a senior and has contributed little to the overall team at this point. Even with a severe injury, short of giving someone a blow for a few minutes a game, I expected nothing more in this his final year. This is a Soderberg recruit who's time is just about over. I have alwasy felt that developing the youth was better than rehashing the old but that's me. I've got to believe that if the character references on Anthony Mitchell are even close, what he gives from a defensive and rebounding perspective will easily eclipse all the things Danny has provided over the last three years.

When Danny was in the games at the tournament in AC, it was like playing four on five. When Danny and Dwayne were in the game at the same time, the defense only had to cover three guys on our offensive side of the ball. Not many teams will win games that way, especially us --- Majerus or not.

I've posted several articles where Kenny Harris shut down Kwamain Mitchell in a recent tourney. That's the kid I want. The late bloomer who is going to see his first real action since his freshman year. He was a bench player last year and sat out because of transfer last year. Really good 6'6 guard who is going to be a steal for someone barring some kind of problem like grades.

Yeah, he scored a lot of those points late in the game and in overtime when he was going back and forth with Roundtree. I dont think the article would've mentioned Harris at all if he wasnt playing very good defense. And for the post that follows this one, I wont question Majerus' decision if he doesnt offer Harris, I'm sure he would have a good reason.

I support the Vashon and the city kids. They sometimes don't get the respect they should and everybody seems to really enjoy jumping on them when they don't work out. I am one of the few on here that still thinks the Bills should try to get Powell when he gets eligble. But, you are way too high on Harris in my opinion.

If Harris was shutting him down then why did they put Roundtree on him? Your logic doesnt make sense. Plus, you said he scored "a lot of his points late in the game and in overtime", isnt that a sign of a great player who got his team the victory. Where was Harris late in the game and in overtime?

I want to see him at prep school if he doesnt qualify. i really think Harris is a sleeper who might not be done growing. If he would've been able to play this past season, I think you would have a little higher of an opinion of him as well.

If Harris didnt play good defense, they would not have mentioned Harris at all, he's not listed on anybody's recruiting website or anything. They took an interest in him because he played good defense. No one plays the whole game in AAU unless their coach is really trying to showcase them so Harris might have played half the game at most, but when he played he must have been playing good defense. The article said he shadowed him and it worked for a while. Obviously Mitchell finally got it together later on.

>I do not look forward to a whole year worth of posts asking

>why have the Bill's not offered Harris.

It's a consistent pattern of trying to talk about games in which he doesn't attend, nor see. He would have been able to correct some of the info he copied here had he been out there watching in person, on the road.
