davidnark
For a university such as SLU, which has excellent academic programs but struggles to achieve great recognition outside of the Midwest and the Jesuit community, the goodwill generated from significant college basketball is worthy of the significant cost. http://billikenbasketball.blogspot.com/200...or-fiction.html While there is room for improvement in both coaching and resources at SLU, there is currently a greater need for improvement in the area of coaching. In less than a year, SLU will be among the top programs in the nation in regard to practice, training, and home court facilities. The recruiting budget probably has room for improvement, but the staff has not complained about an inability to reach top recruits. The conference affiliation is not an asset, but is not necessarily a hindrance for a high mid-major program such as SLU. The current TV contract is a major issue, but is purportedly the top priority of the AD. (And SLU has had numerous national TV appearances over the last decade.) The secondary factors have a greater room for improvement, but are more likely to affect the program’s success with the local sports fans, not with potential recruits. The current coaching staff, on the other hand, has struggled significantly in evaluating talent, consistently recruiting impact players, and winning big games. These struggles under Brad’s program are not isolated to one or two season, but rather have been proven over the course of five seasons (and appear to be continuing this spring recruiting period). Everyone understands that Brad has at least one more season at SLU. Let’s hope that he turns the corner this next year; however, if the coaching situation does not improve within the next 11 months, a change must be made or else any improvement in the commitment to the resources will be for naught. http://billikenbasketball.blogspot.com/200...-resources.html
