soderberg hesitated because he wanted grimes first. he had one scholarship to give and wanted grimes. grimes commits shortly thereafter for mi$$ouri, soderberg switched gears and shaw visits slu for an unoffical visit. soderberg offers him a scholarship and shaw turns him down. shortly after that he announces for siu and painter.

if orange is right and shaw wanted to come he had the opportunity.

Bottom line is another player Soderberg hasn't closed.

At the time, I never thought we had a realistic shot at Grimes. There were plenty of other high profile programs trying to get in on Grimes and we looked to be a 2nd tier option praying for a hometown deal. With his brother then at Creighton, I didn't even hold out hope we were at the top of the 2nd tier heap. Withholding the offer to Shaw seemed like the low percentage play at the time.
