I have to believe that if you try to "cut" a player's NIL payout from one year to the next, they are gone.  And even if you don't, it is to their benefit to enter the portal every year in an attempt to up their personal ante.  There are likely no such thing as NIL contracts.  You don't sign on for anything more than one year, do you?  And there is no evaluation of such payments.

Ballo is supposedly getting $1.2 million at Indiana this year.  All that did was get him to leave Arizona for Indiana.  I am unaware of any stipulations put on these guys ..... what if they don't make the NCAAs?  What if he gets injured?  What if he's part of a situation and gets dismissed from the team?  What if family matters call him to Macedonia?  What are the effects on team chemistry when the top dawg is getting $1.2 million and eighth man doggie is getting $25k?  How does one establish a pricing structure.  And like all things in this society, prices will continue to go up, never coming down.

Sustainability seems an impossibility.  MLB is seeing a number of its broadcast deals go down the drain.  ESPN is getting out of their broadcast contract.  Three or four regional sports networks have failed.  Is college basketball far behind?  But network monies don't go into NIL pots.  Ratings for the tournament are down.  I don't get rich alums paying for fleeting results.  What has Pickens got from his support to Oklahoma State?  Knight to Oregon?  Chaifetz to SLU, for that matter?

It used to be hard to be a Billiken fan.  Now it's getting harder to be a fan of college sports IMHO.  I'm trending more to sports now for the betting aspect.  I don't bet much but as Jamie Foxx said 'put some skin in the game.'

I get what you’re saying and agree with a ton of it.

Luckily for us, we appear to be on the cutting edge of NIL/portal landscape with Schertz.  At least much more closer to it than we were under Ford

Size and shooting ability plain and simple.  He’ll be a good player at that level.  I could see after putting up good numbers and refining his shot he’ll play for a high level team his senior year.

I was skeptical because of the size, and still am, but showed real D1 playmaking ability.  Would’ve been interesting to see in new system

    Oh well

Ya. We got Schertz. The rest of the guys I hope we get but I trust Schertz to get the right guys. Might not be as strong of a first year if we don't land Robbie and them but imo Schertz was the one who made those guys who they are.

    Very important point here.

Larry and Kent appear to be unrated coming out of HS.  Unrated as in no stars.  Not on anyone’s radar.  Both cashing out at Texas.

Avila was a 2 star center with minimal regional interest.  Now he’s a 4 star transfer and one of the best bigs in the country.

Conwell was a 3 star coming out - highest regarded of the bunch.

Even if we miss out on this cycle.  There will be plenty, plenty more.

It is amazing how smooth the last month has gone.  I'm not his biggest fan, but I have to give credit where it is due.

100%.  Sounds like he displayed relationship building attributes as it pertains to CJS.  Both acknowledged many conversations, dinners, etc.

Hard not to be impressed with him at the moment

Everywhere you look Avila is from some different suburb of Chicago. He’s from Oak Forest, very different place than Lake Forest lol

    Couldn’t be more different haha

Any loss on the French guy? Any SLU players leaving now I assume got the talk from shertz already. Gibson being there today gives me hope he stays. Nothing wrong with a complete rebuild, and the isu players plus 3 solid transfers is a good roster

Loved Gibby was there.  I really hope he’s stays.  Deep down I think he will.

Cement the SLU legacy as an all time great and win some games in the new system on the way out

"You can be demanding without being demeaning." I understand Schertz has great respect for Majerus's basketball mind but he has a very different outlook on how to get the most out of players.  It more closely aligns with my own point of view.

"There's really good players who aren't good winners.  There's also really good winners who aren't good players.  The great ones are both"

  8. It doesn’t matter who was right and who was wrong 8 years ago.  More so an observation that, at least from the surface, we had a much more successful outcome on this coaching vacancy than the previous one.

    Attributed to what?

  9. He cites STL being a great sports town, great facilities/resources for sustained championships as deciding factors as well.  Salary is not end all be all, especially considering what this dude will make in coaching.

Perhaps more impressive was beating out FAU.  Alma mater and recent Final Four worked in their favor.

    May on KMOX this morning.

Woman's title was announced at the Zac Brown concert.

Geno Auriemma made the initial recommendation to May for Coach Tillett.

Schertz was on top of the very short list of coaching candidates.  The committee talked to a lot of various people during the process, community leaders, local press, other coaches, national press, etc.  Schertz is meeting with May this afternoon with the Press Conference tomorrow.  He will tour the O'Loughlin Champion Center and Chaifetz today.

What attracted him to SLU?  Ask Coach that tomorrow.

Any players from ISU coming?  Who knows.

    Question.

When we hired Ford, where was he on our list for the job?  Presumably not 1st, probably not 2nd/3rd?

Not sure where you heard this - there was never any actual offer made.  Trust me if Louisville really wanted him he would not be here on Monday.  Rumors or talk is just that.

Via A10 talk article in other thread.

Not the only report I’ve seen either:
