Tonight was a dual experience for us, we went to the game, something we had not done for a couple of years and really enjoyed being there. Sadly we lost.

I noticed a couple of things during the game. I saw Perkins walking into the tunnel at the half time and he was not walking normally, he was either favoring his right leg or slightly limping with the left leg. He is not ready to play, not yet. The second point I want to bring out is is a thought I had driving home: we based our play for the whole season on Yuri, he was in charge and directed the game. Well, he could not play tonight and no one else could do what he does. We lost and the season is over.

On the good side, I thought Strickland did rather well tonight, even though he still fouls a bit much.

I bet we hear Colin’s has had an injury for the last month+ but something recently made it worse. Dude is a warrior and is the straw that stirs the drink. He had to be hurting real bad to not play. Need to get him healthy asap. He hasn’t had a full year without nagging injuries (wrists have plagued him in the past).

Ticketmaster has 5,842 tickets available for tonight right now. I would hope for 4,000. Back in 2010, when we hosted the CBI it was 3,542 for Indiana St (1st Rd), 4,235 for Green Bay (Quarter), 4,682 for Princeton (Semi) and 5,612 for VCU (Game 2 of Final). We had 5,674 at the Family Arena 18 years ago today vs Iowa.

It’s gonna be a small crowd. Generally people have deprioritized going to sporting events since Covid hit. There was a pitiful crowd at every NIT game last night, and I expect a slightly below average Chaifetz crowd tonight (better than every other NIT crowd, though).

I on paper would be more worried about losing guys than gaining but I think we have group that is more involved in team goals than individual

I agree, but I also feel it’s a tad inevitable. Every program loses 1 to 2 nowadays. I have faith our top 4 at the very least, if not top 5-7, will be back.

It does not matter how many games they played (Davidson played 3 and Rich played 4 including the final). The theory of the tired legs is the excuse for losing the game, Rich should have been even more tired with 4 games than Davidson with 3. What matters is, and always will be, winning the game. Congratulations to Rich in their tournament victory.

It’s just the truth. Richmond was gassed yesterday and today but won the war of attrition (didn’t get hurt, yesterday, and didn’t rely on shooting, today). Helluva job and they deserved to win it all. Glad the league got 2 bids.

I’m not disagreeing with your 3 games in three days, but Richmond played 4 games in 4 days.  How was their shooting?

Oh yeah, that’s why I said we were more efficient than them yesterday and today. Their legs were shot and didn’t shoot well either. Just won the war of attrition yesterday and today.

I disagree. They had the same amount of butt naked, wide open shots, if not more. I was surprised Richmond had the same defensive game plan as us, but I guess it works with tired legs. The difference was today was their 3rd game in 3 days. For those that don’t believe 3 games in 3 days kills the legs after a 6 month season, this was a pretty perfect example. Loyer and Lee had open threes and combined for 2/13 today. We were more efficient yesterday than both exhausted teams in this one (and more efficient than rich yesterday). Just goes to show how awful the Umass and at Richmond losses were… if we had double bye, different story imo.

All in all our fault for dropping those games

Because Richmond better defended the perimeter than we did.

I like our roster for next year, especially if Perkins comes back.  However, we need a big man and a difference maker.  Not easy to come by, ford will need to work some off season magic.  And no offense to the two young pups coming in or Parker but I don’t think they will be difference makers to take us to the next level.

Agreed on 90%, but I think Parker is a difference maker.

I guess this is a glory vs money situation for them. An extra year will indeed bring extra glory for them but will it increase their chance to be chosen in the first NBA draft? Remember that an injury during the extra year may evaporate their NBA chances. They are going to have to make a difficult choice pretty soon.

If you’re Bonaventure/Schmidt, you probably want guys to move on. You’re digging a massive hole in recruiting/player dev/depth if you go on your 3rd straight year with the same starting 5 that gets 98% of minutes.

  10. Should be a good tournament. Per Lunardi’s latest bracket, the top 4 seeds will be SMU, Xavier, Wake Forest, OU and next 4 Dayton, BYU, VCU, SLU. I would love to play a few games against any of those teams.

    Thanks for the correction.

This is Loyer’s fourth season playing basketball. Unless he did the bare minimum, he should be a senior academically. That’s the problem with Davidson and no grad program, kids can’t stay around and just add a new major. We shall see what comes out of it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he has to go elsewhere or goes pro.
