What’s insane is that if Hughes jr was coming under any other billiken HC in the last 20 years, he’d probably be the top recruit and this board would be going insane about him. He deserves a ton of hype (probably more than we’re giving) but Travis is also doing an unprecedented job bringing in talent. I can’t believe this kid is a “walk-on”.

Andrew Carr (Delaware) is on campus today. Stretch forward, rapidly developing. Cancelled his Wichita State visit to come here. Davidson and Virginia Tech were thought to be the leaders, with VCU also in the mix. More of a 4 to line up with Okoro but could also play backup as a 5 when needed. Would give us some frontcourt versatility, even if we still need some depth there.

    Kid can play

i dont know tyler coleman and jack godar.   as a billiken crazy fan should i?

probably just Godar.. He's a big billiken fan that writes for a10talk. He's really the only one that champions our program on that site and does a good job. Tyler Coleman... naw, don't need to know him.

Portsmouth is only for graduated or soon to be graduated players who are pursuing pro opportunities.  Playing in PIT takes away any eligibility you have left.

This dude Coleman is giving kids advice on how to navigate college athletics?

RUN YURI RUN as far away as you can from these STL grifters.

didn't know that... yes, you're very right. All these dudes that are sadly in Yuri's ear don't have 1) a clue or 2) his interests in mind..

Can you be more specific for those that don’t want to subject themselves to the cesspool that is Tweeter? I would say the odds of being crushed by a vending machine are better than Ramey ending up in a Billikens Jersey but I also haven’t been following.

Just tweets from the likes of Jack Godar and Tyler Coleman saying that the Billikens should go after him. It just got me excited since Coleman was seemingly in with Ramey in HS, but yeah, seems unlikely.

So, if JNez thinks his best route to the NBA is as a PG, I know a school that’s suddenly in need of one. Haven’t seen where any school has offered him an NIL deal. Of course, do we want him back?

It doesn't seem like we want him back... I am all in on these Courtney Ramey tweets now... He would be a net neutral if not positive imo.

What is their return for their gifts to SLU athletics? Access and a hope for a winning program. The same exact return as an NIL deal.

Tax benefits... if someone donates, that can be written off from their taxes. For a guy like Rich, donating to a building can save some major coinage going to the government. Also, these folks are smart and care about their money, business, and public image. They won't want to be involved in behind closed doors, potentially future IRS/SEC involved dealings, or fake 501c3s. All of which could come into play down the road for those involved in shoveling 200k at Yuri Collins. I sure hope he has a tax advisor, at the very least.

So we all knew, but SLU did not? What did Ross say about the family getting involved in NLI?

He said “the universities involved in these rumors would get in a lot of trouble [tampering] and that NIL conversations are escalating rapidly at SLU [and have been ongoing].”

Little rant: our donors, for the most part, are self-made and have a great sense of what’s best for their interests (slu) AND their pockets. Dr. C probably wouldn’t just pony up 200k (even just a drop in the bucket) without tax incentives, guarantees, contracts, etc. The fact of the matter is Tennessee and many big schools have old money and dudes that don’t know what went into their grandpa’s fortune from oil, railroads, timber, etc. and are cool with just throwing stuff around. Also, given there are no contracts and guarantees, will Yuri actually see all 200k (probably not if he somehow struggles in the SEC)? The rumors out of UNC are their returning starters we’re given $100k each to stay at the school. No way Yuri’s market value is twice that of a starter on a National runner up, so not getting into that pissing war was smart financially.

Blame the NCAA allowing the free evaluation by the NBA folks and much as the ease of the portal and transfer rules.

Everything beyond the 5 football conferences are nothing more than farm teams now.   Won't be long till they split the tourney

I was in the camp that you and those saying this were just being hysterical, "sky is falling", etc... But I must admit, I was wrong. While I hope this won't be the reality, it is heading in that direction.

  10. Good points being thrown on all sides. All I can say is she seems to talk the part, and I am hopeful for the future. I, as many here, also liked Coach Stone. She was one of the nicer coaches I've met. I did believe the program plateaued, but I honestly was comfortable with the plateau (it was better than we've ever had). I like that this hire isn't a complete shakeup. She seems to be a new age Stone, if not a better, more cerebral, eloquent, well-spoken, culture-driven, [insert positive adjective] coach like Katie Shields. Katie is the gold standard for coaching imo.

I think this is the bottom line. May's the one who let Stone go and emphasized taking the program to the next level. That wasn't coming from the fans. He made a big statement and the hire doesn't seem to back that up on paper.

I hope for everyone's sake she's the exact right fit and thrives at SLU. May is a big culture guy and that seems to be why Longwood loved her so much. She came in, completely changed the culture, upgraded the talent, and put them in the Tournament for the first time. Now let's see if she can do it in a tougher conference.

Below is her first quote on coming to the Lou.. Off of one quote alone, she seems to be smart, eloquent, and the right fit for building a positive and winning culture in the lady billikens, but we won't know until November. I am excited to read/hear her press conference to see if she can speak on the spot similar to this quote below. Also, there were a lot of assistant coaches out there, but I am glad May hired someone that has called a timeout before.

"I'd like to thank Chris May, Dr. Pestello, Janet Oberle and Annie Reis for giving me the exciting opportunity to lead these Billiken women," Tillett said. "The department is clear in its strategic objectives of educating, competing and building community. The consistent support and investment in the development of women really drew me to the university. In addition, the passionate way that the St. Louis community supports Billiken Athletics is inspiring and infectious, and we will need everyone to support us on our pursuit of excellence in the classroom and on the court. The opportunity to coach at this special university while immersed in an environment of love, amidst passionate support for great teams, makes me excited to begin OUR journey to championships. Go Billikens!"

I'm not going to critique thuis coach on day 1.  She probably will be good.

    Chris May OTOH...

UMKC gave their new coach (who is a native St. Louisan) a 1.035 million 3 year deal.  She gets a car, she keeps 90% of the revenue from her camps, she gets 50k for radio, TV, and marketing appearances, 20k for team community work, APR bonus 20k, and a list of other possible inventives based on her success.  They doubled the salary of their womens coach and their overall budget going forward.

UMKC made a commitment to their program.

    SLU did not.

Unless some folks troll the financials of the university around tax season, we’ll never know what May hired tillett for. There’s a good chance she makes more than 340k base (unless you’re saying this coach makes 1.035m a year at UMKC, and if so, I need to become a women’s basketball coach or agent).

Scratch that. Signing as a walk-on.

Yup... Dream scenario for this squad. 3 remaining spots after snagging two quality players. Obviously one averaged double-digits in the SEC last year, so he'll be more impactful right away. Can't write off LHJ... kid seems to have a limitless ceiling and a good head on his shoulder.
