He may have only officially had 1 turnover, but he got his pocket picked at least twice, including on the last play of the 1st half. He had 6 points, all from within 3 feet or at the line, a few boards, a couple assists. Like I said, I’m never going to question his hustle, but he was the least impressive of our regulars for me.

I gotta be honest guys, I was pretty calm even at half time. The 1st half wasn’t pretty. Too lax on defense and WAY TOO MANY TURNOVERS! But it’s the 1st game with a lot of newcomers and underclassmen. Sloppiness is to be expected. Look at some of the scores around the A10 and around the country. I think a lot of teams were dealing with that same thing. But our length and athleticism was apparent even in the 1st half. We just needed to chill, get the nerves out and play our game. And in the 2nd half, that’s exactly what we did. Yuri was phenomenal. Nesbitt…I’m going to restrain myself as best as I can and say he’s special. He’s going to be a special player. I liked Jimerson being more aggressive inside the arc, and sniping from behind it. I thought TJ played well. Linssen was great. I think Okoro is kinda still finding himself and gaining confidence, but he was fine. Jones looked good backing up Yuri. Traore was the big surprise. He did not look out of place at all. I don’t know how long you can keep Williams in the dog house when he can shoot the way he does. Whatever he has to figure out, he needs to figure it out quick because he’s an absolute sniper. Thatch was disappointing for me. I’m never going to question Fred’s hustle or effort. But he can’t shoot, he turns it over too much, he must’ve gotten his pocket picked 3 or 4 times. That can’t happen going forward. It just can’t. But with the end of our bench essentially playing the last 10 minutes, I’ll take a 35-point win.

Maybe I’ve been drinking a little too much of the ol’ blue Kool Aid, but I feel pretty confident we’re gonna come out victorious tonight!

Hey Wiz, I have a theory about this season that’s not backed up by anything but a gut feeling, but I’d love to get your thoughts. (After the Perkins injury) I kinda feel the same way about this season as I did 2 years ago, the season after Bess and Isabell and Foreman graduated, but we brought in Yuri and Perk and TJ and Jimerson and Jimmy Bell. There are going to be times, especially in the OOC where this team makes bad mistakes and looks totally out of sorts and frustrating. I also think our OOC schedule is noticeably more difficult than 2 years ago. But I almost think that that’s a good thing. The OOC is kind of going to be a trial by fire, and even if the results aren’t always there, hopefully it will bring the team closer and we will be battle-tested when we get to conference play. And that’s when our discipline and team play will start to match our talent and athleticism. We may lose a game or 2 more than we should I’m the OOC, but might win a game or 2 more than we expect in conference play, and end up being one of the most dangerous teams in the league come March 1st, just like we were 2 years ago.

I don’t mind Arriola. His energy and runs serve of a purpose by stretching the defense, even if he has worse touch than I do. Lletget and Roldan I don’t understand at all.

Who has the home game in final? I can’t remember where UMASS finished in the standings.

I don’t think there any glaring omissions. I’m excited to see how Scally and Ferreira play. But this was more or less what I expected and I’m fine with it.

Yeah. All that legal stuff is way over my head. There’s probably a good chance the upcoming CBA negotiations could effect the Ozuna situation too. But you’re right about her being crazy. Again, nobody here is excusing what he did. But I remember after he first signed him, before LAST season, a story came out that HIS WIFE was arrested and he had to get stitches on his arm or hand because she stabbed him with a broken plate. Just an unbelievably toxic relationship on both sides.

I just can’t imagine you let the face of the franchise through the entire rebuild to get us here, who is still probably the best 1st baseman in baseball, walk immediately after we win the Series. Especially when it’s not like he’s a Boras Corp client who will be auctioning himself off to the highest bidder. If we make him a fair offer (my guess is a few million more than the Cardinals gave Goldschmidt, 5 years at $140-150 would certainly get that deal done), he’s going to come back. With Ozuna, my guess is he will actually have a lengthy suspension, maybe the entire season, so we won’t have to worry about his contract at least for most of next year. Remember, right now, he’s still on “administrative leave”. The league has yet to give him his punishment. But looking back on this season, late June, we haven’t been over .500 all year. Soroka having to get ANOTHER Achilles surgery. d’Arnaud out with torn thumb ligament. Ynoa out with a broken hand after punching the bench. Smyly giving up 12 bombs a start. The entire bullpen having a combined ERA of about 147.00. Freeman hitting about .220. Riley hitting about the same. Heredia starting in Center. Orlando Arcia starting in left. Kevan Smith starting behind the plate. We’re on the road in Miami and all of sudden Acuna goes down in a heap in right field of Marlins Park and everybody watching knows it’s an ACL. And in that moment, sitting stunned in front of the television, I remember thinking to myself… “we’re gonna win the World Series!”

Hadn’t he just transferred to a team in Europe when he got hurt? Or was that a loan. Either way, super excited for him. I think the January window is probably the earliest we could see him for the national team, but hopefully he can stay healthy and get fit.
