In reality, they struck gold in ‘99 and it carried over when Mark Few took the job. There is absolutely zero reason that a tiny Jesuit school in Spokane should be one of the best programs of the current era, and a favorite for this year’s title. What Butler did was special. What Villanova has done is special. But both of them are in major metro areas compared to Spokane, and it’s not like the Eastern Washington area is known for producing studs. They are what SLU should've been decades ago. In modern sports, their consistency might be the most impressive thing in the US.

Yeah, recruiting wasn't their bread and butter but Majerus and Spoonhour are still talked about in this town because they accomplished more with less. To quote The Who, I won't get fooled again.
