If this is true #1 that is a 25 times increase in one year if my math is correct.  How can this kind of annual increases be sustainable even for the big boys.

I didn’t take it as the top spenders had to increase what they were spending.  Just that players that had a great years got huge increases.  I’m assuming players that had bad years took decreases.  But to your point I think it’s going to have to cap out at sometime.   I also wonder now if there will ever be a “salary cap” with NIL?

I was skeptical because of the size, and still am, but showed real D1 playmaking ability.  Would’ve been interesting to see in new system

    Oh well

Yes he’s one I will check box scores on and see how he progresses.  I hope he does great.  I wonder if he looked better because of the talent level around him?

    Very important point here.

Larry and Kent appear to be unrated coming out of HS.  Unrated as in no stars.  Not on anyone’s radar.  Both cashing out at Texas.

Avila was a 2 star center with minimal regional interest.  Now he’s a 4 star transfer and one of the best bigs in the country.

I really think that Avila in a different system would be okay at best.  He’s a great passer and a really good shooter.  But he’s thriving in an offense that accents his strong points.  If he played as a traditional big down low like most teams run he would struggle.  He’s slow and needs to bulk up to play down there.  Plus adding the extra 25-35 feet he’d have to run each trip up and down the floor he’d be gassed a lot faster.  I really hope he comes here because he fits the system so well.  He’ll have a hard time finding a system that fits him like this one.

Don’t understand the Medley downgrade whatsoever

Size and shooting ability plain and simple.  He’ll be a good player at that level.  I could see after putting up good numbers and refining his shot he’ll play for a high level team his senior year.

Damn if Avila doesn't come here I am gonna look like a clown telling everyone around me that he was going to be playing for SLU next year.

I really think Avila is mostly a product of the offense Schertz runs.  He’s a talented player for sure.  But he won’t fair near as well in a different offense.  One of the great things about Schwartz’s offense is shortening the floor for the big guy.  Avila isn’t fast.  Running back down the court from the 3-point line is a lot different than starting under the basket.  I hope he understands this.

Top Nine list for UK:  Jay Wright, Danny Hurley, Rick Pitino, TJ Otzelberger, Bryce Drew, Nate Oats, Bruce Pearl, Tommy Lloyd, and Billy Donovan (per speculative article).

Did you forget Ahern?  Seems like a hot commodity.  (Blue font)

If you’d have told me when he was hired that Travis Ford would coach at SLU for eight seasons and NEVER beat a ranked team, I’d have assumed we got relegated to D2.  Wonder if any other A10 programs went winless against ranked opponents in that time frame.

I always wondered if any other team made the top 25 and never beat a ranked team during a coaches tenure.

I questioned Schertz as our choice for coach about a month ago for not having any big wins on his resume at Indiana State.  It wasn't a criticism, just and observation that he had not beaten anyone of note other than Drake, who ISU also lost to twice this year.  Just want to point out that in the NIT, Schertz has beaten the #65 NET team (SMU), the #89 NET team (Minnesota), and the #37 NET team (Cincinnati).  Only Cincinnati could be considered really quality win, but I am still much more excited about the possibility, or hopefully likelihood, of him being our next coach.

He’s not our coach yet and he’s beat the same number of top 25 teams at SLU as TF has.  So there’s that.

  9. I will renew my two.  I didn’t renew 4 this year.  I only attended 1 game this year.  This is after about 90-95% attendance for the last 11-12yrs.  There was no reason to throw good money after bad.   Only reason I’ll renew is I’d never be able to get seats as good as I have again.   If I had average seats the answer would be no.

They’ll get left out so a under 500 big ten team can get in.

You give U of Minnesota the exact same resume and they get a 4 seed.

I hate the committee and think that midmajors get shafted a lot.  Problem with this statement is a 500 Minnesota team won’t have 40% of its games against quad 4 teams.

But if your going to use this metric the NCAA should mandate these power 5 schools have to do home and home series with theses smaller schools.

F... Ford, May and anyone else who complaints of attendance at mid-week games, this town likes basketball and wants SLU to be good...the old fans remember the huge crowds when the teams were good.  Here are some attendance highlights from the 1994 season.  These were fun games and hot tickets.

Date Day of Week Attendance Opponent
    2/23 Tuesday 18,411 Cincinnati
    2/19 Friday 18,033 UAB
    2/9 Tuesday 16,453 Iowa St
    2/6 Saturday 17,209 Depaul
    2/2 Tuesday 14,791 Dayton
    1/26 Wednesday 18,158 Marquette
    1/11 Tuesday 18,073 Memphis St.
    12/30 Thursday 17,117 SUIC

Man I remember these times.  I was a senior in high school.  Had to use the phone to order tickets with my mom’s credit card.  A few friends and I would jump in the car and drive 40 miles on a school night to go see a game.  We’d park in someone’s yard because it was cheaper than parking in the lot.  Some great times for sure.

If we gave a cool half million to Caleb Love or Ryan Kalbrener, would that even our playing field against Arizona and Creighton?  I doubt it.  Was our evaluation of Meadows, Dalger and Ezewiro sound?  Again, huge doubts.

Ever been in a bar at closing time?  Not a lot of evaluation goes on.  It’s pretty much you’ll work because you’re what’s left and available.  I’m think this is what happened.

I wasn't aware of this.  Anyone close enough to 111 to know what happened?

I wasn’t there last night but the guy that got kicked out would have been sitting right next to me.  I was told by another person in our section that all he said was “your at SLU not Dayton” twice.   He does have a loud voice.  But in all the years I’ve sat by him I’ve never heard him get personal or cuss at the officials.  Was told he didn’t do either.

I’m not condoning what Shannon did at all, by any means.  But it seems like the DA overcharged him based on an interpretation of the law.  It took them 3 months to issue the charges, too.

How do you know he did anything?  Charged not convicted.

If we lose on Wednesday, meet at Hump’s after the game and start collecting $ for this billboard?

I was thinking today about an easy way to find this.  Here are my thoughts.  Total up what you’d spend going to a home game.  Parking $15.  Soda and popcorn for the kids. $15   A beer and pretzel $17 etc.  Don’t  go to the next 2-3 games.  Take the money you’d usually spend at the game and donate it to the billboard.  Attendance takes a hit.  We get a billboard.  And nobody spent anything more than normal.
