Why leave UConn for UK?  UConn spends more money on basketball than UK, UConn will match whatever UK will pay and he is already winning at UConn.  Hell, UConn is the better basketball program with 5 championships in the last 25 years. UConn is honestly the premier college basketball program today.

If I remember correctly, you’re a savvy soccer guy.  UConn is Germany.  UK is Brazil.

I agree cost shouldn't be an issue.  You hear all the stories about Hurley's idiosyncrasies?  Not sure that personality type could survive the scrutiny crucible of the UK job.

If I had to bet, Nate Oats.

If we’re talking Vegas, I’ll take three against the field (Hurley, Oats, Donovan.)

I bet they reached a deal like Texas and Marquette on Shaka.

So if they did reach a deal that probably means UK has the replacement lined up.

Pitino is still kicking. But I wonder who they want?  Oats?  Beard? Pearl? Jay Wright comes back?

Hurley.  100% proven commodity.  The cost is insignificant.

Wild!  Thanks for posting the link.  And how did Martinez not make the All-WNIT team?!

On the other hand, Peyton totally deserved the MVP.

    2024 Postseason WNIT All-Tournament team:

    Emma Utterback – Vermont
    Ja’Mia Hollings – Troy
    Amaya Battle – Minnesota
    Mallory Heyer – Minnesota
    Kyla McMakin – Saint Louis
Peyton Kennedy – Saint Louis (MVP)

I'd love it if Schertz could work Thames into the model because I think he's got a lot of potential, but of the six guys on ISU's team that played essentially in every game, here's the stats:

    40% on 129 attempts

    42% on 259 attempts

    36% on 306 attempts

    36% on 80 attempts

    45% on 85 attempts

    36% on 112 attempts

The ISU offense leads to a lot more open looks. Gibby would probably thrive not having to spend 35 minutes weaving every game to even be able to take a shot. He was also 40% on 212 attempts in 2022-23 when SLU had a decent PG. Larry was also 41% on 29 attempts in 2022-23. Djorde was very efficient in a small sample size. Do we think Thames can maintain a 36% 3P% if he had to 2.5x or 3x his attempts? If he was also 0 for 1 in limited time in 2022-23.

Thames' game is much more akin to Goodwin. I'm obviously not saying he's Goodwin, but he gots a lot of his points on drives, offensive rebounds, etc.. Schertz offense runs through shooters. Tons and tons of potential. I just have questions if he fits the mold.

There is no way JS wants Thames to leave.  Has more upside potential than anyone on either ISU or SLU.

And he has the one extremely rare quality - he is unselfish.  The only Billiken more unselfish than him is Tierra Simon….;)

I choose my wife because she has a nice rack. It’s worked out so far.

I do know one thing, if I turned down a job paying 2.5 million for a job paying  800,000 I’d have to find a new wife.

This is probably the funniest comment I’ve read on this board.  Thanks for the chuckle.

After watching Grand Canyon, massive no on Bryce Drew. I’ve seen better coaching on the playground.

Sounds like Barkley agrees with you.  If I’m an Alabama fan, I’m taking a couple of Xanax after that game…complete street brawl.

The popularity of women's college basketball is soaring.  I hope the Billikens can be a big part of it.  There's a lot to like about Coach Tillett besides the awesome A10 tourney run last year.  I think she makes great halftime adjustments.  I also like her overall in-game demeanor.  Recruiting prowess remains an unknown.  This off-season is very important for them.  We need an influx of talent.

Exactly. The courtside demeanor is what I liked least about Tillet’s predecessor, and one of the qualities I like most about Tillet.   I could not deal with screamers in any sport I ever played (with the one exception of folk style,) and I think most players feel the same way.

🤷‍♂️May just have the flu or something. I just looked again, no Billiken women in the portal that I can see.

Both Mia and Ashleigh in the portal…which is why you did not see either on the bench last night.  Connor always seemed athletic and skilled  enough to handle whatever pace the  game presented when she entered…always wondered why she did not play more often??

I think sometimes a few people on this board forget just how damn good Perkins was pre-injury.

Here is his performance in a victory against LSU featuring a couple of NBA players and the amazing Will Wade. An entertaining victory - too bad there were no fans to see it.

Hombre was smooth.  Made it look so easy.  What might have been…..

Yarbrough never scored like Hughes or Parker.   And he shot at a 50% rate.   I agree Parker isn't Hughes at this time.   That's why I said "SINCE" Larry Hughes.

    But he's a scorer.

I almost agree with you.  I think the St. Joseph game where Perkins went Mano a Mano with an unstoppable Ryan Daly tops any of Sincere’s fab performances..

thames is hargrove 2.0.   hargrove took the majority of his college career to learn to play basketball.   always a fantastic athlete but the mistakes and learning curve for defense was hard.   thames seems to me to be the same way.   but if he has a big end to his career as hargrove did this year it would be worth it.   but count on it, he is going to drive us crazy for awhile before it clicks.   but man he has some outstanding moments this year.   the kid is a show just like hargrove was.  just got to fix the basketball stuff imo.  he got better as the season went along so give him a real coach that can actually teach, hard telling what he will turn into!

I get the Hargrove comparison from a pure athleticism perspective, but I see Thames as more technical, more refined.  More of a Nesbitt type - but much more unselfish and without the anger issues.  Too unselfish at times for certain…

I do know the staff widely regarded him as the player with the most upside..even more than Parker.

65-63 Billiken win! VCU took command early in the 4th, but SLU fought back. With 44 sec left, Peyton Kennedy nails a 3 to go ahead, Julia Martinez steals the ball with31 seconds left, the it’s foul time, Kyla McMakin goes 4-4 from the line. VCU hits a 3 with .2 sec left, but it’s a SLU victory!  Commentators saying what great leadership by Julia Martinez. Peyton Kennedy 22 pts on 7-10 shooting, 3-6 from 3. Attack and advance! SLU wins the TO battle and gets 6 more points on turnovers, and there’s the win.

That was fun to watch!  Have to love the announcer calling Martinez a “cheat code off the bench”

Ever been at a bar in Djibouti at closing time? Drinking that Kenyan beer Tusker*?  That's how ya get Aids.

This is kind of like that, basketball Aids and only Magic Johnson level money can cure it for us.

*Actually pretty good, but they usually have Heineken too and something called Desperado which is from France

Ha! I’m going to guess you’re one of the few fellows on this board who knows where Djibouti it, let alone been there….and it is amazing how one finds Heineken everywhere - in the most remote corners of the globe.

    Amazing Dutch entrepreneurship!

Delkus is playing this Spring with St. Louis City 2 along with Jaeger. (and John Klein).

5 Billiken commits made the UPSL U20 Championship Game. Over 400 teams, and over a dozen MLS affiliated teams.

Four of the above are transfers mentioned in more detail in previous posts. Some of the above are on campus and will play this Spring. Some others will begin playing in the Fall.

Maher was the 30th pick in the MLS Draft. His brother Josh, and cousin Josie will begin on the IU Men’s and Women’s teams this Fall. AJ had a good experience at SLU which helped with Joey.

Any insight as to how we looked against City Next and Indiana?  Is Moore playing?

That isn't Soderberg's role at all.

He’s officially “Director of Scouting”, which means he’s on the road watching UVA’s next opponent most of the year. You won’t see him on the bench at many games and doesn’t have much to do with recruiting. Helps Bennett devise game plans and identify strengths/holes in the upcoming opponent.

Based on games at which I was physically present, this is #2.  Number 1 was Goodwin’s driving layup at the buzzer to take the 1/17/20 Dayton game into overtime.  Don’t think I’ve ever seen Chaifetz go as crazy as it did at that precise moment…place was packed….insane!

The Hughes tech, in the first half summed up the season. Tie game, we get a steal, and draw a foul.  The tech gives VCU two free throws (which they drain), AND they hit a three on the follow-up possession.  Larry misses his free throw opportunity, and a tie game (with possession of the ball) turns into a 5-point deficit.

Tech was brutal, but if I’m going to pick only one reason for why we lost, it was our 3 point shooting.  Sincere a solid 4-6, our other three big guns: 2-6, 1-5, 0-5….and many of them wide open.  VCU did not miss their open shots.

We’re not going to win any shootouts with those kind of percentages.

Thames is very athletic and fun to watch.  If he were to start though he would be sitting very quickly with 3 quick fouls in the first half.

I’m just saying these are our five best players.  Play them at the same time.  Fun to watch.   Let the chips fall where they may….

We had a better chance of winning if Brad didn’t suit up today. What a poor game from him that hurt us in so many different ways.

Players on the floor for the vast majority of the time need to be Parker, Hughes, Thames, TJ and Gibson…..no big man, but I don’t care.  This is far and away our most effective set.  Parker and Hughes share the point duties.

There’s glass half full and unreasonable. This team did this one time in 20 games this season. This is an aberration against the worst team in the A10 as of right now, not a corner turn.

Next two games will tell us if this was an anomaly or a corner turn.  I know I’ll be at the VCU game…shouting my head off and converting another date into a Bills fan.

Tough to beat? We're 2-8 and lost to Fordham at home.

People get really insane any time they see a single positive thing. The Billikens shot 41% from three. 102 points. The last time we scored this many points was in the 1950s(?) ..

I watched a much better team than this score 19 points in the lowest point total in the shot clock era, too. That team had Kevin Lisch and Tommie Liddell on it.

Weird stuff happens in sports, it just does. it is HARD to lose every game.

Losing every game is just as difficult and impressive as winning every game. That's sports. That's how it is.

We gave up 84 points to LaSalle, if nothing changes on defense this team won’t be tough to beat.

They score 84, we score 85.  Simple…and we have the shooters/athletes to do it.  I have complete faith that an open GJ, Parker or LHII will make the vast majority of their shots.  And possibly add Thames to the mix…have not seen him put up enough 3’s to gauge.

I don’t think the defense is going to improve, not going happen.  So only option is to get it done on offense.  Again, simple….

  24. 1 hour ago, Aquinas said:

Gibson has been drawing the best guard defender, now teams may put the best guard defender on Parker and try to provide some help. Gibson should get loose more often. Ez should have more freedom of movement inside as well. Now if our guys can recognize when they are getting doubled and find the open man, we should get easier shots.

This!  Our guys finally start looking for the open man rather than forcing shots when well guarded…we’ll be tough to beat in the A10.

    It’s really this simple.
