  1. I come at this from a glass with nothing in it approach. This now gives UL's AD (who apparently loves Schertz) another week to convince his boosters (who apparently don't love Schertz) that he is worth the buyout with SLU. Another win by ISU also likely increases his starting 5s NIL value. Assuming Schertz does honor his MOU with SLU, that's more NIL $ we'll need to throw at any of his players considering following him to Midtown. Again, I have never had a glass half full.
  2. Travis Ford with shades on riding the moped would've been a great GIF here.
  3. Speaking of basketball tournaments in STL, whatever happened to the Coca Cola Shootout? I used to love attending that as a child. A lot of highly ranked national recruits played in that tournament...
  4. I take back what I said about wanting ISU to win the NIT. Given the rumblings yesterday, I'd prefer to resolve this as quickly as possible. With an ISU loss tonight, by the end of this week we've either officially hiring Schertz or we're pivoting to Plan B. If L Ville is interested in Schertz and Schertz is truly interested in the L Ville job, I would prefer to pivot to plan B this week rather than at the end of next week after an NIT championship for ISU. Whatever "agreement" Schertz supposedly has with SLU is unlikely binding from a legal standpoint. One thing is for sure, he isn't staying in Terre Haute to be the "toast of the town". Having said all that, Wade and Kelsey seem like perfect fits for a program like Lullville. Tick Tock...
  5. I like that hire but also don't. That was my back up plan to Schertz. Really need Louisville to hire a coach.
  6. I really feel bad for ISU fans and, assuming what we've heard is true, hope they win the NIT. I'm fine waiting another week or so. But I feel particularly bad for some of their more delusional fans on the Sycamore board who think Schertz should stick around because he is the "toast of the town" (Pop 58,000) instead of making a "lateral" move to SLU. Is SLU in a P5 conference? No. Is it a lateral move? As Trilly Donovan said, "hardly". I mean, just off the top of my head: 1. General resources/school support - SLU - For all of the crap we give him, Freddy P has done a decent job navigating this tricky landscape 2. Basketball spending - SLU - I believe ISU spent roughly $2.5M versus SLU's $8M last year. We obviously know head coaching salaries aren't even close either. 3. Facilities - SLU - Hulman is nice however Chaifetz is nicer. Not to mention our brand new $20M Champions Center 4. Boosters/Donors - SLU - Not even close. Chaifetz isn't the only billionaire that cares about SLU basketball or the school. Comparing endowments: ISU $110M versus SLU's $1.4 BILLION 5. NIL - SLU - Going to assume Schertz was given assurances that boosters would not only empty the briefcases for his starting 5 but for additional recruits/transfers this year and beyond. 6. Market - SLU - Terre Haute is the 159th ranked tv market. St. Louis is 21. Additionally, the A10 exposes you to the following tv markets: Chicago, Philadelphia, DC, New York City, Pittsburgh, Richmond, etc. I guess the Valley held onto the Chicago market with UIC and now has Nashville. But outside of that it's Des Moines and Springfield? SLU basketball is also the highest level of hoops in a metro of almost 3M people. 7. Conference* - SLU - A10 ranked higher in KenPom and RPI. Last year was the first time in 2 decades the A10 only had one team in the tournament. Gone are the days of 3-4 every year but the A10 should remain a 2+ bid league. Loyola Chicago moved to the A10 because they knew it was a superior conference. It also sounds like the big knock on ISU was non-con SOS. Going to be hard getting P5 schools to play in Terre Haute. SLU doesn't have that issue. Recent HOME games (I'm Sure I'm missing some): Auburn, LSU, NC State, Memphis.... 8. Local recruiting - SLU - St. Louis metro has an abundance of talent and Ford was able to snag a handful of those 4-star talents (shame he just didn't know how to coach them!). Would love to see what Schertz could with them. *With Pestello retiring next year, now is the time to get a president in there who will make the Big East their goal. We need someone who sees how valuable a BE landing spot would be not just for the sports programs but for the school in general. I'm sure this was also discussed during conversations with Schertz. Oh, and no crappy football team at SLU to suck away resources.
  7. Always love seeing a fellow Cadet dominate.
  8. Was just thinking about this. It sounds like it’s pretty much a done deal with Schertz but if not I’d like them to take a long, hard look at Byington.
  9. I think SMU is shooting 200% from 3 tonight. Last two 3 pointers for SMU were by a player making just his 2nd 3 pointer of the year and a bank 3. Might just be one of those games.
  10. 100%. When I think of the NIT, MSG is one of the first images that pops into my head. I know it's just a location/venue but IMO it adds some weight to the tournament. Playing at Hinkle is Low T.
  11. The one St. Louisan I see in those magazines every time I fly is Dr. Brinton (Brinton Vision). It's usually a profile pic of him with the words "I WENT TO HARVARD" in bold 32 font pasted diagonally across his body. He likes to get that out of the way quickly (as evidenced by his website's "About me" page where his alma mater is mentioned in the second sentence of his bio). Don't think he drives an uber though...
  12. I love reading the "Top Lawyers/Doctors in STL" and the "40 under 40" lists because we all know these people are paying to be included.
  13. I’ll be purchasing season tix for this upcoming season if Schertz is coach. Would love some tips from the current season tix holders on where to sit, etc. Any players that follow will just be icing on the cake. My bro-in-law (an Indiana University alum) texted me last night saying he wants to go see Cream Abdul-Jabbar play so there’s at least one casual fan that has never expressed interest in attending a SLU game with me before last night.
  14. Who’s throwing the watch party for our NIT game against SMU tomorrow? Sycamore admin guy just posted: I will say it doesn't sound like they get the starting five, but otherwise.. Assuming just 3, which 3 do we want? Avila…..
  15. And ultimately that is all the matters. No one cares what my opinion is!
  16. Went down an X rabbit hole the other night and some d bag Vandy guy said Mack to Vandy was a sure thing and that he'd be bringing on Matt McCall as an assistant coach. Valid post or not, I thought the McCall thing was interesting since a few on here had suggested in the past that SLU bring on McCall as an assistant.
  17. Agree re: salary. He could return next season with his entire starting 5, a $800K salary (230% increase), and the chance to have an even more successful season than this one. Stock would be even higher and phone calls from P5 schools would be flowing like the salmon of Capistrano. It's a risk for sure but a low one at that. Not sure $1.5M would get me to sign on the dotted line. BE ship has sailed in my opinion. Unless we can reel off a few very deep tourney appearances over the next 5 years and even then, not sure it moves the needle for the BE. I see our only chance of playing in the BE as a reactionary move by the BE, not a proactive one. Or a few whales decide to go the SMU route (albeit on a much smaller scale). Come on, Dr. C, the NBA thing isn't going to happen. Make SLU your NBA team. Let's get them to the BE!
  18. This is correct. Some of the more knowledgeable posters on their board claim that Schertz has the updated contract ($800K) on his desk he just needs to sign it. SLU offering in the $1.5-2M range is what I was thinking.
  19. Sycamore board Recap of the Schertz interview on Dakich this morning: I heard it. Most of the interview was about the committee and missing the tournament and preparing for the NIT. At the very end DD asked him about the SLU rumors and he sort of fumbled a bit and they went into the typical "there are always rumors" "I'm focused on now" but did say that at the end of the season he would sit down and review offers and make a decision that is best for him and his family. Love where this poster’s head is at. Although if players plan on following Schertz to SLU I don’t see him leaving them behind to play in the NIT: So there is a school of thought that it would be best for all involved if HCJS would announce his departure today and leave for SLU tomorrow and not coach the NIT. That way he can start working the portal for SLU immediately and Angie can name Graves interim and he can start working the portal for ISU. Everything I've heard is that Graves is a really good recruiter so tag him interim with a whisper campaign that he is the HC in waiting and get to work.....just a thought.
  20. You could make a case for all of the bubble teams that got in and a handful that didn't, but UVA has absolutely no business playing in any tournament but the NIT.
  21. My computer is telling me this joke has 100% chance of producing laughs, especially from the dads. WWNTDTL: read Wiz's post
  22. From the Sycamore board: WTWO interviewed Schertz tonight and they asked him about SLU job…he said “his focus is on winning an NIT game and nothing is official.”I
