  1. I understand your point, but do guys always have to be put in a position to produce as a freshman? Roby will be gone after his freshman year, Henriquez and Bess after his sophomore year. As long as he doesn't have wild dreams of needing to play in the NBA, he can take the traditional path to a productive career here at SLU.
  2. What about Goodwin's shoulder? Anyone hear anything else about that?
  3. I agree with what you are saying. I just think every AAU kid with a little bit of talent could be described as "love playing the transition game." I certainly want to recruit tall, athletic kids. I just don't want their primary attribute to be that he loves running the fast break. That skill isn't as useful in college, where teams actually play defense, as it is in AAU ball.
  4. This is something that doesn't get said enough. We need to remember it when discussing recruits. If Ford decides not to go after someone, it may just be that he knows something about the kids makeup that we don't. French, Goodwin, and Thatch all seem to be solid citizens and hard workers. Not sure on Gordon yet, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now. I think we need to trust Ford's recruiting choices in the future. Let's not take on a kid just because of his numbers in high school that turns out to be a problem for us.
  5. Thank you for that post. It actually put a smile on my face about my city. Please post more.
  6. Whenever a scouting report starts by saying that a kid loves to play in transition, I get concerned. Seems like all AAU kids love to play in transition. I would prefer thinks like "great mid range shot." "great post moves," or "tenacious rebounder." Being great in transition doesn't necessarily translate well to the college game other than showing that a kid has some athleticism. When I watched the Final Four, I didn't think once "wow, that kid is great in transition."
  7. Let's be fair about a few things: 1. There has been a lot to report about Mizzou basketball lately. There has not been much to report about SLU basketball since the season ended, other than our transfers. 2. Ford would have hired Porter as an assistant to get his kids if that was a possibility. Also, we would have been ecstatic about that development. Having said the above, it would not surprise me that Mizzou gets more love from the Post in the future. A lot of journalists went there. Also, the stories that come out of Mizzou are more interesting in the same way that a Real Housewives show is more interesting than Meet the Press.
  8. Not if they would have tied it to Proposition P. The City tied the measure to other matters. "Help County officers and bring a soccer team to St. Louis." I bet that would have passed.
  9. We should start antagonizing the Illinois faithful to get them to pressure Underwood to condition his release on not going to a Power 5 conference.
  10. Got it. I saw April and figured it was relating to this situation, but it looks like it was before Tilmon's decision.
  11. So, Tilmon is leaving Illinois, might go to SLU or Mizzou, and the SLU and Mizzou fans are the ones that look like dumbasses? This guy really seems in touch with the situation.
  12. Old Guy typing = Nero fiddling Glad you're so happy while the city I love continues it's trek toward irrelevance.
  13. So, the folks that are opposed to public funding of this soccer stadium constantly throw out studies that were done by experts. These studies typically back their position concluding that public financing for stadiums is a bad investment. Then, a guy with a PhD who studies these stadium issues in far more depth and with far more experience and knowledge than any of us would says that this is a good deal for the City and that people should vote for it. Keep in mind, this guy normally finds that public financing is a bad deal. This time, he concludes that its a good deal. Despite their love for these studies, suddenly, when a expert reaches a conclusion contrary to what they want, these guys now want to criticize this particular study. Let's be consistent gents. You can't lean on studies that were done on other stadium projects and then ignore the one that was done on this project. City residents: Vote "Yes" on 1 & 2.
  14. That's what I was hinting at. I wonder who GloryDays was talking to?
  15. Tatum, a 19 year college student who goes to a school in North Carolina, was hanging out at PBR on a Sunday evening? Guess its possible isn't going to anymore classes if he knows he's in the NBA next year.
  16. If he ends up at Illinois State with Milik, maybe it could be the start of laying the groundwork for a pipeline of guys Ford doesn't want anymore.
  17. My god father was on the team (John Cordia). Someone needs to let all those folks out there that say we don't have the history that some other schools do that we ranked ahead of Creighton & Dayton.
  18. Yeah. I was sad to see that K-State is continuing to succeed. Weber gets too many of our local kids. It's a shame he's so likeable, otherwise, I'd hate him more. Even if he got fired at K-State, I'd be worried he'd land at SIU-C or MoState and continue torment us on the recruiting trail.
  19. I agree that sports teams don't draw new residents. I don't want this particular sports team to come to town to draw new residents. I want this sports team to come for the residents that are already here. So much of the dissent for these Propositions is about the sting we all still have from the Rams leaving. However, not doing a good deal simply because you got burned by a previous bad deal is not smart. Any good businessman evaluates deals individually and doesn't allow past business dealings to affect his current business relationships. This is a good deal. The stadium will pay for itself if the team is a success. The team will be a success. It will be around for years. I guarantee there is no idiotic escape clause in the lease like Kroenke had. Let's not let this good deal go, because we recently got burned by Kroenke. If we do, then we will have let him hurt St. Louis twice.
  20. Agree again. If I didn't buy my Billiken tickets, I would probably take that money and put it into taking a trip somewhere. Then the money would end up somewhere in the Carribean. It is not guaranteed that the money would stay local. Also, those studies don't look at the tax money from the players', coaches', and other staff's salaries.
  21. +10000 I hope you're wrong, but I fear you may be right. The worst argument that I have heard from seemingly intelligent folks is that this is only being done to benefit millionaires. That's crazy. This is being done to benefit the City. The opponents need to get over what happened with Kroenke and realize that this is a different situation. Another absurd argument out there is that the City and State are in a financial mess because of giving money to these stadiums. The City and State are in a financial mess because of their complete inability to bring new business and keep existing business. Part of the problem is the attitude that exists that you can't possibly give a business any incentive to come here or to stay here. That's working out pretty well, isn't it? Businesses seem to not be able to leave St. Louis fast enough and everyone blames that on the Dome!!! INSANE. St. Louis will not turn the corner until this attitude reverses and was see that businesses leave where they are and head to wherever they get the best deal. So, let's stand on our principles people until this is a ghost town. I hope we all keep in touch from whatever other City we find jobs in.
  22. An MLS team will be successful in St. Louis. I will buy season tickets to the MLS team when it arrives. The MLS is on the rise and the NFL appears to be in decline. Look at the NFL's ratings dive last year. If this stadium deal gets done, I think we might look back and say that we were lucky to get out of the NFL and into MLS at just the right time. The owners are putting up a $150 million expansion fee and have agreed to pay the $150 to $200 million remaining on the stadium costs after the City's $60 million. I truly think they need this money to make this happen. If we take a chance on the idea that the owners will pony up the money, we will be without a team. The MLS will give the expansion franchise(s) to other cities. The use tax will take the funds for this tax increase right out of the ticket sales on the stadium. I truly believe that the team will be a success. So, I also truly believe that the use tax will fund the City's $60 million completely on its own. Therefore, the City won't lose any funds that should be going elsewhere. The City of St. Louis and surrounding region has lost way to many businesses or potential businesses to the old curmudgeon attitude that you shouldn't provide any tax incentive for businesses to come to or stay in St. Louis. Remember the Chinese import air hub that we were going to get until politicians shot down those tax breaks. I think Chicago got that after our politicians "turned it down." Let's not lose another opportunity.
