I'll disagree with you. Something as big as changing schools and NIL money, a player is most likely  going to tell a friend, girl friend and or a parent. 5 players, no way that stays sealed.

But isn't that what is happening?  Guys on this board are saying he is bringing players with him.  Where would they be getting that from?

I’m okay with that.  Charleston is a great city to visit.

Totally didn't think about that angle when it was discussed.   We need more southern teams in the A-10.  Most destinations are bitter cold to watch a Billiken conference road game.

Floyd and Tony despise SLU.  It would be a shame if we missed out on a lot of players that come out of the V except none really do.  Irons prepares his teams to win at the HS level.  Once they leave Vashon they all flame out.  Any present and future SLU coaches should just stay away.

Keshon Gilbert averaged 13.7 for Iowa Stste this year.  I wouldn’t call that a flame out.

In fairness, I don’t think anyone thought Mack was a realistic option.  He may not have been an option, doesn’t his daughter play volleyball in Florida?  Possible he wanted to be close to her.  Schertz and Mack were 1A and 1B for me, with the rumored players following Schertz giving him a very slight edge.  I do think Chris Mack could’ve been EXTREMELY successful here, but I also think Schertz will be.

If he is choosing Charleston, I have to think we could have brought him here.  Charleston is probably going to be paying him a lot less than we are going to pay Schertz.

We can all agree, SLU wasn’t the right fit for this kid last year but neither was creighton

What a bonehead move this guy made.  Got zero playing time at Creighton and would have gotten a ton of playing time here.

  6. If Mack to Charleston is true, I have to assume that we could have gotten him.  I'm sold on Schertz despite my initial concerns about having no big wins.  However, I have to think that years down the road, we will all look back at this hire as a choice between Schertz, Mack, and Ahearn.  This board's choice was clearly Schertz.

  7. I questioned Schertz as our choice for coach about a month ago for not having any big wins on his resume at Indiana State.  It wasn't a criticism, just and observation that he had not beaten anyone of note other than Drake, who ISU also lost to twice this year.  Just want to point out that in the NIT, Schertz has beaten the #65 NET team (SMU), the #89 NET team (Minnesota), and the #37 NET team (Cincinnati).  Only Cincinnati could be considered really quality win, but I am still much more excited about the possibility, or hopefully likelihood, of him being our next coach.

  8. If/When this deal is finalized, Chaifetz and other involved donors and May need to get a lot of credit.  There are a whole lot of ways this search could have gone south, but they made it happen with their top choice despite a late challenge by a big time program.

Also, If/when Schertz signs the deal, I think he has to start out extra popular here given that he may have passed on a chance to become the next coach at Louisville to become our coach.  It's one thing to beat out a big time program for a recruit.  It's another when you beat them out for a coach you both want.

There are multiple programs that have shown no issue with hiring guys with NCAA violation history or character issues.  None of them have wanted to touch Will Wade.  It is probably a good thing if we follow their example.

Character issues would be different.  I agree if a coach has personality flaws that wouldn't be preferred.  However, if it is just an issue that someone got caught up on prior pay for play scandal, I don't see how that should preclude them from jobs now.

i'd be ashamed to root for a cheater team.   a cheater will recruit cheaters.   when saint louis university becomes that i move on.

But how would someone cheat now or need to cheat now?  What could WW do to get us in trouble when players get paid legally now?

  11. If Schertz goes with Louisville, I have to believe that the crazy Louisville supporters will think that his current roster at ISU is below them.  They will tell Schertz that the Louisville NIL fund will get all new players and that he just has to coach them.  If Schertz has already had a conversation with his starters and said we are all going to SLU, it would be quite a rough move to back out on that promise now.

Interesting.  Missed this when it was first announced.

Sources tell FOS the tournament organizers are in talks with: • Alabama • Duke • FAU • Houston • Kansas • Oregon • San Diego State • St. Joe's • Syracuse • Virginia.

This is definitely a recruiting tool for the chosen teams.  Would the potential of a payout entice Eric Reynolds to stay at St. Joe's, if they are selected?

The St. Louis Sports Commission needs to get on this to jumpstart a St. Louis tournament at Enterprise.  I've never understood why St. Louis does not have a tournament like this anyway with our central location.  Get some sponsorship to kick in the money.  Get TV rights sold.  Frank Viverito, get on this!!

*With Pestello retiring next year, now is the time to get a president in there who will make the Big East their goal. We need someone who sees how valuable a BE landing spot would be not just for the sports programs but for the school in general. I'm sure this was also discussed during conversations with Schertz.

Recently, information came out that we have way too many people on SLU's Board of Trustees (37 to be exact).  Also, several board members are (1) Jesuits from around the country who don't have any apparent connection to SLU (like the President of Fordham and another that is the Treasurer of the Jesuit's Northeast Province), or (2) randos like Holden Thorp (the Editor in Chief of Science Magazine and graduate of North Carolina) or Perry Vyas (owner of a company based in Athens, Georgia and a graduate of Gujarat University).  I totally agree that we need a new President that understands the college sports landscape and the difference that a successful athletic department can have on admissions.  This is why this crazy board make up worries me.

He isn’t going to pick FAU over SLU.  They can’t march SLU on salary, can’t match NIL money, play in a 40 year old glorified 2,900 seat high school gym and don’t have the other facilities SLU has.

Hopefully, the reports are true that Schertz loved our facilities.  If that is the case, then we certainly would have a leg up on his alma mater.  Can anyone confirm the reports that he visited campus?  Or was he just aware of our facilities already?  Or are these reports just speculation and cannot be confirmed?
