  1. But in terms RPI, the Division II match-ups have no effect right? I don't know. If I had a reason to get excited for the non-conference home schedule overall, I might care more. Bring on Tennessee State!
  2. The NAIA Final Four. Division III Washington University beat them two years ago. But to the original subject, Missouri has hosted Division II bottom feeder Truman State University the past few years. Kansas hosts Central Missouri from time to time. It is not a big deal.
  3. History showed that SLU used the first legal forward pass after Roosevelt called in a host of college presidents and said they had to make the game more safe and the rules were subsequently changed. Princeton, Columbia, Yale and among others all lay claim to inventing the forward pass.
  4. Is Sweetin officially out for the season? A healthy Sweetin and maybe we have a win over Northern Illinois and Gulf Coast and everyone is pumped.
  5. It is too early to know, but we have reasons to be hopeful. If you are talking about the Women's team, then the answer is no.
  6. Admit and enroll students. Even the wealthiest institutions are increasing enrollment in order to increase cash flow.
  7. For many Universities, it is not about recruitment but is instead about recruiting males. This is part of the equation for WashU.
  8. I think the consensus position on Fr. Biondi is that he has no plans to match Reinert's legacy, but rather he wants to outlive it altogether. Fr. Reinert retired 20 years ago and passed away 10 years ago. Biondi is about 70 years old, so time is not on his side, but I doubt he retires soon.
  9. Thanks for the recap. The paper had reported that Roach was set to return. Obviously, this is going to be a very long season without their contributions.
  10. An in-depth recap would be greatly appreciated. In his post-game video, Coach McGinty blamed the loss, in part, on the inability of the Billikens to match the intensity of Northern Illinois. The Bills definitely matched them in fouls called. As an aside, is it just me or does McGinty not sound all that smart in those interviews?
  11. Loyola was one inbounds pass and hold sequence away from an NCAA tournament automatic bid in 2001-2002 and Whitesell had a few 18-20 win seasons early on. Yeah, that probably qualifies as dreadful. I do not expect the team to do much better next year, regardless of who coaches.
  12. Bruce Pearl is not ideal, but he could get the job done at Loyola. As for the sleeping giant remark, as an alum, I wish I could say the same, but I have been following them for 15 years now and I do not see it. I never had faith in Coach Farmer, but I thought for sure that Whitesell could get it done. Loyola loves to talk about 1963, but I do not see them ever becoming a perennial contender, even for the Horizon League title.
  13. Porter Moser, as I understand, had interviewed with UW-Green Bay, but they promoted from within. Loyola has proven to be tough on coaches, though it has been awhile since they had the right coach. They do have a relatively new athletic director and upgraded facilities that draw a loyal, but small crowd. It could be a good job. I heard from my almost-inside source that Todd Lickliter is the favorite. He knows the Horizon League and has had success recruiting Chicago.
  14. And, Rolfes from Incarnate Word was an assistant at SLU under Pizzoti. I doubt he would return as much as I doubt he would be asked to return.
  15. I believe Chris May has a daughter at SJA and chances are good he prefers that she eventually plays under Matheny.
  16. SLU has lots of notable alumni. The President of Loyola University Chicago, Michael J. Garanzini, S.J. and many other University presidents graduated from SLU. Vedad Ibišević, who plays soccer for Hoffenheim, and has the potential to eclipse Brian McBride in terms of soccer notoriety. Robert Guillaume of Benson fame.
  17. The big question is indeed how appealing is the job. And, we would probably need to know the salary to get a good answer on that. Providing that the salary is competitive, it would not make sense at all to go after a local high school coach. There are a lot of quality college coaches. Coach Musso, for example, from Quincy would be a good fit. He has is a proven recruiter and is 12-3-3 in one of the best Division II conferences in the nation. His squad beat Division I Southeast Missouri 2-0. I said it once and I will say it again: this SLU squad is much better than the record would suggest. It is time for a new coach.
  18. The quality of the talent is going to wax and wane, but clearly SLU is under-performing based on the current level of talent.
