  1. A few more post-game celebration photos.  And during halftime, they had a 3 point shooting contest.  Three guys sitting next to us competed as a team - and won!  One of the guys was shooting like Jimmerson and made almost all of his shots.  I talked to them when they got back to their seats and one was a '17 SLU alum and the other 2 went to WashU (both played basketball at WashU so that explains the shooting ability).  They work for a company with an office in Tempe, so they were able to plan a business trip around the game.  Sweet!  (My apologies to the SLU alum - I didn't get you in the picture.)

We didn't stay for the other 2 games, but the GCU - Liberty game was televised and we watched that for awhile.  The GCU crowd was huge.  There were quite a few of them there already during the SLU game.  Looks like they have a great fan base.

  2. Great game yesterday!  A lot more SLU fans than I expected.  I'd estimate at least 60-70 (if not a few more) fans cheering for SLU.  I've posted a few pictures that show the overall crowd size (small) as well as the SLU fans behind the bench.  There were a few in the section directly across the court, but you'll see mostly red shirts over there - Dayton fans.  (A Dayton guy came up to us outside and said he was rooting for SLU, but only for that one game.)  We spoke briefly to Chris May and a little longer to Janet Oberle.  My daughter recognized a SLU baseball player who was a year behind her at SLU (I'm assuming it's the one who posted yesterday), but most everyone else was in the "upper middle age" (i.e., "senior") category.

I'm no basketball junkie and don't know all the terminology, but my overall takeaway from the game was that SLU is a good team, needs to be a little more aggressive on defense, needs to work on their free throws (as does Tulate!) and shouldn't rely on the 3 point shot so much (although it was very effective on Sunday).  It seemed like Tulate could penetrate and get under the basket more than SLU did.  But the 3 point shooting was amazing, especially Jimmerson!  He was on fire.  As was Jacobs.  Jimmerson got a long standing O when he came out of the game.   French had a great game, too, and took MVP honors

Thank you, SLU, for coming to Phoenix.  Come back anytime!  (And play more than one game!)

You may be only visual witness on here. Please report in to GDT.

I will, but after the game.  An alum in Scottsdale held a reception at their home tonight - Chris May was the featured guest (we were unable to attend).  So there should be a few more SLU fans at the game.  Glad to see it will be streamed.  Look for our little cheering section!

  4. Is anyone going to the game?  I live in Tempe so I'll be there.  Daughter is an alum & we're excited to be able to see the team.  Even when she was at SLU, we never got to a basketball game.  She played softball, and their home season never seemed to overlap with the basketball schedule.  Go Bills!

  5. Happened to see this today. Page translated by Google - sorry if it's not the best. Here's the original link if you have a different translator -

By José Bartolomei, the spokesman -01/13/20165:09 pm

Quebradillas Pirates announced the signing of Australia striker Brian Conklin as the first player concerned for the 2016 season of the National Superior Basketball (BSN).

Conklin played last season with the Santurce Crabbers with whom he averaged 11.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

"Conklin is a player who can play small forward and forward. Is very active against the basket and makes good curtains "said Gaby Miranda, general manager of quebradillano whole.

According to Miranda, the Pirates needed a player of such qualities, to produce "other things" because they do not have to worry so much on offense to have canasteros Christian Dalmau and Larry Ayuso, Richard Chaney and the same Jorge Brian Diaz, who can undertake the offensive.

"Conklin was the leader like Richie Dalmau. Play as a team and has many other facets, "said Miranda.

This means that management knew Pirates barajeaba few days ago the name of John Lucas III, like his other reinforcement, although the possibility that the American player to sign with a team in the D-League, were quite high.

"We continue to analyze 'combo guards' and possible EU players," he said.

Pirates started training on Monday January 18. Conklin is expected to Quebradillas report in mid-February and the preparatory tournament play.

Prior to joining the Crabbers in 2015, Conklin had been awarded as MVP of the Professional Basketball League of Australia to Townsville Crocodiles.

After finishing his commitment to Cangrejeros striker returned to the Australian league for the 2015-16 season with the same team, with whom he recorded 13.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 13 played games.

  6. After reading the article on JJ, I was curious as to why BC left the team. I hadn't seen this thread until now. This is what Wiki has to say about it:

    2015–16 season

On July 15, 2015, Conklin re-signed with the Townsville Crocodiles for the 2015–16 NBL season.[15] On November 4, 2015, Conklin was involved in an ugly on-court incident involving Perth Wildcats guard Damian Martin, where during the fourth quarter of the Crocodiles' 89–77 win over the Wildcats, Conklin's errant elbow collided with Martin's jaw, breaking it.[16] Two days later, Australian basketball legend, Andrew Gaze, called out for the NBL to suspend Conklin for six weeks.[17] Ultimately, Conklin was cleared of any wrongdoing by the NBL.[18] Just ten days after the Martin encounter, Conklin was in the spotlight again for another elbow incident, this time for striking Adelaide 36ers forward Mitch Creek in a similar manner. He subsequently received a three-match suspension with two of those games suspended for the rest of the season.[19] On a lighter note, in that game against the 36ers, Conklin scored 21 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.[20]

The Crocodiles completed Round 8 with a 4–10 win/loss record, leading to the club re-considering its future and personnel. Consequently, on November 30, Conklin was released by the club.[21] In 13 games for the Crocodiles in 2015–16, he averaged 13.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.

Really sad to read this. I always hoped for the best for BC & his MVP last year was a good sign. Hopefully he can come back from all this.

  7. Congrats also to Colton Frabisilio (23rd round pick 699) & Jackson Wark.

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis had a pair of baseball players selected in the 2015 MLB Draft on June 10. Junior catcher Jake Henson and senior catcher/outfielder Colton Frabasilio were the Saint Louis selections. This marks the second consecutive season in which the Billikens have had two draft selections, and the fourth time SLU has had multiple picks under Darin Hendrickson.

Henson was drafted by the Dodgers in the 21st round (pick 642). He was SLU's top power hitter in 2015. He hit .327 with a .531 slugging percentage and a .366 on-base percentage. Henson led the team with eight home runs and 46 RBIs. He recorded 20 multi-hit games in 2015. Prior to this season Henson had 13 multi-hit games in two seasons as a Billiken.

Frabasilio was a threat in the heart of the Billiken lineup, hitting .313 with a .460 slugging percentage and a .381 on-base percentage. He notched four home runs and 35 RBIs. Frabasilio also made a tough transition from catcher to full-time outfielder in 2014, making 31 starts in the outfield as a senior.

Also drafted was incoming freshman Jackson Wark (30th round, pick no. 899 by New York Mets). He is the first Billiken signee to get selected in the MLB draft under Hendrickson. Wark pitches for Bellerose Composite in Alberta, Canada. He is currently trying out for the Canadian Junior National Team.
