  1. I think Brey is an assistant for Quinn Snyder in Atlanta. Teacher becomes the student kinda deal. He could bring that DeMatha / DMV pipeline directly westbound I-70.
  2. Enjoy - the bar at the Royal Sonesta has live jazz every night. Keep an eye out for a little funky group called the “Brass-a-holics.” Saw them here back in January and they were incredible. Local NOLA outfit. You will also be in town for the St Pat’s parade down in the Irish Channel / Magazine Street. Damn, I envy you!!
  3. I’m in NOLA now, but unfortunately back to Dallas tomorrow after meetings in New Iberia. Enjoy the Crescent City and Hammond. Good people down here. Make sure to get to Pascale’s Manale down on Napoleon for some oysters. Cherry Coffee just north of Tchopitoulas on the corner of Laurel and Upperline. Bring some cash for the trolley and Cafe du Mondé. Cash only! Laissez les bons temps rouler Bills!
  4. Even the worst parts of Chicago are better than the best parts of Norman. And I once had to call on Loretto Hospital off 290 in South Austin/ West Garfield Park. Get the Kevlar on, folks.
  5. And the Mountain West gets six teams in according to Jerry Palm.
  6. A few things have changed (for better or worse, that’s up to you), but some seismic shifts in the way we consume sports since those days. Most SLU games are televised now - you can watch from the comfort of your own home without worrying about games being blacked-out. On the economy of scale side, when SLU brought an arena to campus, they probably had the mindset where managing, building, etc. a 20,000 seat arena was financially irresponsible. As an intern in the University comms dept in the summer of 2003, I saw a number of scaled up and scaled down versions of the house that Richard built. Some that had the capacity to switch out the hardwood to reveal an ice rink. These were concepts that were all left on the cutting room floor. There was one that had almost turret-style steeples on all four corners with Gries Hall style adornments in that ugly green shade. I’m sure that architect never got a Christmas card from Biondi. I digress, but obviously the brand of SLU basketball that was being played in the early to mid 90s was hot. College basketball as a whole was hot. The Fab 5, Duke, UNLV. Run and gun style hoops. Spoon localized what was going on nationally. And we were winning. We had had competent and active sports marketing teams, too. How many of y’all had Spoonball posters in your dorm rooms? Yeah you did. We also played a legit non-conference slate, which included some regional teams in SMS and SIU, which probably added to the attendance figures, too. It was almost as if the arena built with Soderball in mind, rather than Spoonball, completing one of the unspoken tragedies of an arena completing its 16th season of service.
  7. I still like to refer to that, and my Costco chicken, as rotisserie.
  8. All of UD’s seniors are in the stands… blue hair font…
  9. Like the people wearing “Security” shirts at any event. The power trip these people go on needs to be added to the war on drugs. Andy Frain not hiring, Gerry?
  10. So their head coach is now their boss? I’d love to see that coach just walk over to the starting five with pink slips on senior night.
  11. That still doesn’t make the situation even remotely better for us as fans. That’s like the Army Corps of Engineers using “new and improved” duct tape to fix a levee in New Orleans before the next hurricane.
  12. Boy, for all the $hit we give Stef, he’s playing his freaking wooden shoes heart out.
  13. Gotta keep that Irrelevancy Cup Rivalry game with UConn relevant somehow. They don’t want to fall into the black hole that is the CAA with UNH, URI and UMaine. Hell, Vermont hasn’t fielded a football team since the Ford administration (Gerald, not Travis). Probably a good move for the Catamounts. Don Brown is a heck of a coach and they will probably be at the top of the MAC standings.
  14. You STL locals can and should show up to support Schertz and make some pitches to him at Arch Madness next week.
  15. UT is home to one of the premier Jesuit theological schools on the continent in Regis College; from a doctrinal sense, along with the other 8 Catholic schools in the conference, the U of T would be a welcome addition. I’m just not sure how some of their sports (like baseball) which is played in the fall in Canada, would translate to spring play. Hard to have home games in March or even April up there. It’s been done (see Exhibition Stadium in Toronto and Jarry Park in Montreal), but my hands already feel numb from thinking about getting a fastball off the handle of an aluminum bat. why not pick Carleton, the Duke of the North, while we’re adding on? Bring a natural rivalry to boot.
  16. With Chris May’s inability to make a sound financial decision, paired with our luck, he’ll choose John Groce just to save a buck on not needing hair product in the coach’s dressing room.
  17. Smoke & Mirrors Night at the old barn.
  18. Terrance spark plug Hargrove with the block of the years.
