  1. Those are athletic teams - I’m specifically pointing out Chris May and the team that brings in 99% of its budget. I’m very aware of the on-field and in the classroom success of the teams you mentioned.
  2. regardless of which side of the ford debate you fall on, it is very clear that both sides are exercising a great amount of concern RE: the direction of this basketball program and, quite possibly, the entire athletic department. It is very palpable.
  3. Only 11 days til May Day, so try and keep it in your pants until then, Comrade? +1 for the Soviet rag reference, VM.
  4. Dayton’s AD also has to oversee an FCS football program and the expenses of that as well. What Sullivan has on his desk far outweighs May.
  5. RPI: 225 Davidson has an RPI of 71; VCU has an RPI of 52. SLU no longer plays Missouri in the wood bat games in O’Fallon, etc. Probably the one sport leaving C-USA was the best (and worst) thing, but we can’t even get a good regional series going with a program in the upper echelon of college baseball. Even if we get to the NCAA tournament, we end up as cannon fodder to Ole Miss or get sent halfway across the country to play in front of crowds this program could only dream of. It is a shame and our Billiken 9 deserve better.
  6. Awesome. WV Spring Game is on 4/22. Might have to stream that one to see if he gets in. HC Neal Brown and our HC share Kentucky roots.
  7. But a culture guy. A guy you could build a team around. There aren’t many guys like that. He had a high basketball IQ and brought nothing but a positive energy to the squad. Give me a full roster of Luke Meyer types over a me-first guy like ___________ (insert any non-SLU player of your choosing here).
  8. Could be a miracle if he resurrects Georgetown. Reminds me of the comic Dan St. Paul’s Harry Caray narration of the first baseball game ever played between the Bethlehem Braves and the Jerusalem Giants. Totally worth about 5 minutes of your time.
  9. Direct into MYR from STL via ATL on Delta is about $355 from 11/16 - 11/20. A little higher into Charleston ($355 on AA). Can’t search SWA this far out, but they might have a better fare calendar. I’ll probably burn some of my work miles I’ll earn up to that point - it isn’t too far of a drive from Wilmington, NC or Charlotte either.
  10. Why couldn’t we funnel some NIL money for foreign players through our Madrid campus? Debajo de la mesa, as rusty as my Spanish is after one semester away.
  11. Got a pretty good corporate rate through work ($114 a night at the Homewood Suites by Hilton Oceanfront) if anyone needs me to book them a room. It ain’t the Knights Inn, but it will do. Maybe we should do a round of golf in between? Some fantastic tracks down in Myrtle.
  12. Kinda knew that was coming. CBS has continued to move him up on the Sunday slots. It will be Nantz/Romo on the prime time game of the week slot, with the Eagle/Charles Davis special doing the undercard. Harlan and Gumbel round out your play-by-play for this fall. I always thought Nantz had the best month of any man on the planet going from March Madness sites to Augusta…
  13. This as well. A poorman’s Clark Kellogg. He brought so much more to the telecast and saved us from the torment of Billy Packer.
  14. Kevin Harlan is so good. My fear is they will go with Brian Anderson or Ian Eagle. Brian does a good job with the Brewers and Eagle is a good NFL guy, but neither brings the flavor that KH does. And I’m not sure Fox will let Gus get subbed out to CBS for a month…. March isn’t the same without Gus.
  15. The ratings for the women’s game were an all-time record high. I think the parity in the women’s game is a major draw; gone are the days where Geno and Pat (rest in peace) are mainstays in the Final Four, which is a good thing. On the inverse of that, a men’s final four with 3 relative no-names will probably hurt the ratings. Personally, that’s what March Madness is all about - I like a Final Four without all the Blue Bloods. Let’s buck the status quo! On the CBS front, I believe this is the last hurrah for our friend Jimmy Nantz, which is a shame, but good for him for having his last Final Four be in his old college town (UH). I concur on Raftery…I was expecting him to drop a “Nutmeg” rather than “onions” when Connecticut won…
  16. Ha! Great reference - the man did sequins better than Liberace with zero credit. The man deserved better. The unsung voice of my childhood.
  17. It will now be turned into a float for the 2024 Mardi Gras parade. contrary to Mulkey’s charm was the Iowa coach, who sells Tupperware to church groups in the off-season. You couldn’t find two more polar opposite coaches in the land facing off for a natty.
  18. Crazy. I guess the state the size & population of California needs both!
  19. Financially, for sure! Don’t forget UCSB won the college cup in 2006, played at the frozen tundra of Hermann Stadium…also, what is the difference between the Cal State prefix schools versus the UC prefix schools? I’ve always wondered that!
  20. What about the old Titans of Cal State Omaha, as the boys down in Fullerton like to refer themselves as?? Four nattys in baseball, right?
  21. Hahahah! Brian Ferentz scoffs at this, but stats don’t lie!
  22. edit. Seeing the Mark Masden info and kept thinking about his LA Lakers championship parade dance moves…dangerous…
  23. Ed Martin would have had a field day in this day and age…and Fischer would probably still be in Ann Arbor and the banners would still be hanging in Crisler Arena…
  24. Could an Athletic Dept theoretically “lower” one’s salary say from $2.5m to $2m and use that leftover $500k to fund something/someone? Or do they have to prove cause to the NCAA that they docked someone’s salary? Just curious if anyone knows any sort of loopholes a program like Houston or Kentucky could exploit.
