Not to the extent of NIL.

Correct, I can only assume it has grown now with NIL, more new money on top of old money without risk of legal issues. If it was sustainable before, it will continue to be sustainable in the future. More money available now, equals more demand for money, the ratio is most likely still very similar.

Not with this amount of money. Back in the days of shady guys handing kids bags of money it was all under cover. Now, it’s all public and semi-public, and people can throw in money without worrying about going to jail. The cost to everyone has skyrocketed, and no one putting in NIL money is getting any return on their money (no share of ownership, no part of revenue from the sport) other than the pure ego of buying their team a championship. And most of the money will not buy a championship, and the rate of increase is crazy. I just don’t see this as being sustainable.

We will never know what amount of money was spent in the past before NIL. Could be similar amounts... with new money being thrown in without fear of any repercussions, lessening the need for old money and their contributions possibly decreasing? I would assume it is more now though, with lots of new money pouring in on top of the old money. If it has been sustainable for decades before NIL, and the assumption that there is more money involved now, I can see it flourishing now that there are not any risk of legal issues.

Sustainability seems to be impossible to me. Pro sports works because you make money off of it. This is just people putting ever increasing amounts of money into this purely for what? Ego? It’s just not sustainable into the future.

This had been going on for decades in college football and basketball.

I w a talking about this earlier today.
I love Jimerson as a Bill. One of my all time favorites, but I don’t consider him an all time great.
Good….definitely, but not a top 5 or even 10 player.

Although a tourney run will change my opinion.

With Jimerson starting the season at 25 years old,  is he the oldest or one of the oldest Billikens to ever play?

Good pickup by Mack. My guess is he’ll do well at CofC. Wished we could have kept him. If Mack liked what he saw why didn’t we?

Mack coaches in the Colonial Athletic Conference where Curcic is better suited, I am guessing that is why.....and Harriman probably had some input.

I think that, at least to some degree, the high margin of victory depended upon the fact that the Cavaliers  considered the opposition totally inferior to them and so they were not ready to fight them. Besides the roundheads really believed that their God was a mighty fortress as they sang as they fought.

This forum is no place for ethnic slurs. Do better.

Here is an article that ranks the nicknames.  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/ncaa-basketball/news/robbie-avila-nicknames-cream-abdul-jabbar/df900acb04b9a2fef4662980#:~:text=Cream Abdul-Jabbar,-This one is&text=This will be the nickname, making those T-shirts first%3F

I have some quibbles with the article's rankings.  I'd put Larry Blurred/Blurrd above Larry Nerd.  Nerd feels too derogatory and not cheeky/fun to me.  I agree that Cream the best:

    1. It matches his position.  Avila is a center & Abdul-Jabbar was a center.
    2. Cream works on 2 levels both is complexion and his body type.
    3. It is not ISU specific like Larry Blurred/Nerd so it can travel with him better to SLU.

That all being said, I'd love some SLU specific nicknames.  I was going to save this analysis for if/when he officially commits to SLU, but what the heck.  I'm excited about it now.  Some of these are admittedly terrible.  I'm just spitballin.

    1. Wheezy Ed
    2. Avilliken - H/T to MMP on Twitter
    3. JordPair (of goggles) Jett
    4. Specs Sinquefield - think we can get Rex to dump in some NIL if we pump this one up?
    5. Willie Read - I actually love this one & it makes me even more sad that Willie's SLU tenure was cut short or it would be a phenomenal one
    6. The St. Louis Ram(bis)
    7. Anthony BonNerd
    8. Jake For(eyes)ter
    9. DJ For(eyes)man
    10. Horace Grant Gehlen - former walk-on Grant Gehlen I think actually went by Gus, so probably no.
    11. Horace (Grant) Dixon - anyone remember Ho Dixon?  Soderberg really couldn't recruit.
    12. Darrin Clarke Kent - he's not from MN and not a huge disappointment, so probably not
    13. Buddy Holly Brehmer - Brehmer was the coach after Bennington / before Bob Polk, probably a no on this one
    14. Robbie Guillaume - Robert Guillaume (voice of Rafiki) attended SLU & wore glasses

These are the players that remain:

     Brad

    Thames

    Hughes

    Curcic

    Zhang

    Magassa

The only two we need to keep on this list are Hughes and Thames. Hughes is self explanatory. Thames has something nobody else on that list has, something which can't be taught, either you got it or you don't, Thames has it and you need players like that around.

Not as high level as I expected .... no A10 team interest?

I think that list is on par with his talent and ability.  What interest level were you expecting a low end guard in the A10 to garner?

Grandy Glaze does gay for pay porn and only fans. I believe he is straight and has a child. There’s a bit of a difference there.

To be fair, the line between gay for pay and simply gay can be somewhat blurry, after seeing video of him toss a rope in another man's mouth on Twitter/X.
