See Caitlin Clark
Caitlin Clark reportedly was paid $3.1 million in NIL money. However, I believe she thinks she'll make even more in the WNBA, because she chose not to use her 5th year of eligibility.

The stated range was $1.5-2 million, no doubt that's accurate. Robbie and Conwell alone will command ~$1 million, the other 3 starters combine for $500k-1 mill. Checks out.
You think Texas didn't drop Kent and Larry a combined 500k??From what I read, Avila’s going to get between $250k to $350k. Those other guys aren’t getting more than him. No, I don’t think Kent and Larry got $500k between them.

If this is true #1 that is a 25 times increase in one year if my math is correct. How can this kind of annual increases be sustainable even for the big boys.
ISU basically had 6 players. $2 million for them is an exaggeration.

Coach Schertz was on with Bernie today. The most interesting comment was Schertz saying if ISU had lost to SMU early in the NIT, he might not have ended up here. Over the length of the tourney he was able to develop a relationship with May, Pestello, Conran and Chaifetz. They did a wonderful job of convincing him that he was the top priority. May called him daily, sometimes twice a day, building the relationship.
Coach's values lined up with SLU's. "This is a job I could be at the rest of my career." The City fits me and the school fits me. He didn't want to be in a fishbowl. His older son has special needs. He is not nomadic by nature. "Everything needed to build a long term winning culture is present. Alignment is here from the top down."
Talked about his ISU team. He isn't worried about how many stars a player has or who is recruiting that player. Guys need to fit his system, even though his system is malleable. He will bend his style to what he has. He had big at LMU, Emanuel Terry - cup of coffee in the NBA, who couldn't shoot or pass but was elite as a dribbler and a rim runner.
Bernie asked about transfers, particularly the process and time table. Coach wants to move expeditiously but intelligently and purposefully as possible. Six or seven visits or more will happen in the next 10 days. As of today, we have 2 players on the roster. We have one game scheduled. This will allow him to build the roster as he needs to and the schedule as he needs to. He is confident we are in good shape with several players. The goal of the schedule is to get an At Large if needed. (Easy to read between the lines.) We will have some good news in the next two weeks or so. We can swim in different waters than we did at Indiana State because of all the things we have here at SLU.
Bernie and Coach bonded over food talk. Bernie promised to take him to a restaurant Majerus liked and they named a chipeno after him.
For as crappy an AD as May supposedly is, Coach Shertz seems to think May did a pretty good job of convincing him to come to SLU.

Huh? You're missing the point. Avila is a sophomore and next year will be a junior. One more year of physical development, college weight room, trainers. That's a reason for optimism that the ISU MVC Tournament 2nd place team could be better next year. All 5 starters have another year of experience.
That's next season, not the season after. I'm not projecting them any further into the future.
Coach don't do weights, summer conditioning, running, etc.
"I never condition them," Schertz said after a recent MVC tournament game. "We don't do any summer conditioning, no conditioning in the fall. I never run them."
No Conklin summers.

Brighton is correct. Pre-season top 25?!! The Bills are practically a lock for the Big Dance!

400th out of 400. Saint Louis University comes in a depressing 156th.

Don't worry about that TRN. Most of the people in this board know that I really do not know basketball. I admit freely that I know a lot about some things and very little about other things. Basketball is one of those things I do not much about. My wife is the true SLU basketball fan in the family and has 3 degrees from SLU.
Why isn’t your wife posting here?

Some said DeVries would be a superior hire. BUT—Terre Haure is a depressed town located in the county with the highest poverty rate in the state. ISU’s enrollment is down 50% from years ago…and they’re in a consistently 1-bid league….
Against that backdrop and the tourney run, great hire!
Yeah, the Wall Street Journal ranked ISU 400th out of 400 colleges in this years college rankings. That alone is enough to encourage anyone to get the hell out of town.

Chareleston is a nice place to live. Beaches, historical district, and top drawer restaurants. Kelsey and Grant success drove fans into complete sellouts. Granted their arena has been upgraded but still holds only 4.5k. I’ve heard thru the grapevine the deal is done. CofC got some buyout $$$’s from UL, $1 to $1.5mm. And that Mack would make $1.5 mm. Also, rumor is that Mack told CofC to start a process to get into the A10. CofC fans are really excited over that. So am I, as I have a friend who holds 4 season tickets to the Cougars.
I’ve been to Charleston many times, and think it’s a dump. Stupidest state in the country, biggest cock roaches I’ve ever seen, and hotter than hell in the summer. Not to mention the mosquitoes!

Coach Grawer's teams played way stiffer competition in the NIT. Avila would be Big Chill Melvin Robinson's rag doll, just like Luc Longley.
I wonder why they called Melvin “Big Chill” ?

If Schertz moves on after one year, it was a great year for SLU basketball. (FWIW I don’t think he leaves after one year) Anyway, I doubt Utah St. regrets hiring Sprinkle because he left after one year. They were decimated after Odom left, and he got them to R32 year one. I see your point, and there’s some validity to it, but you hire the best coach for your program NOW, imo. You can’t worry about three years from now, especially in the era of college free agency for all.
I'm only giving him one year. After all the hype I've heard here, if the Bills don't dance next year, goodbye Shertz!!!

WVBilliken there is a vast difference between the two of us. You believe that May announcement will confirm that Shertz will, I on the other hand do not believe him. I prefer to see what happens and if May is correct, good for May he managed to do something correctly. If he is not correct May confirms my belief that he is not capable of handling this hiring.
I think that if Schertz wins the NIT with his ISU team he may well try go elsewhere. Of course, we will find out what happens when it happens. And by the way, as long as they have a viable second choice candidate ready to come in, I will have no problems if Schertz decides to go elsewhere.
Old guy, who are some of your second choices for HC ?

Not only is UVa bad, they are terribly boring to watch. They had no business in the Dance. The screwing of ISU should be concerning to all mid-majors. Some day Coach Schertz could have SLU with a top 30 NET and we get screwed from the auto bid.
Even if UVA didn’t get a bid, ISU still wouldn’t dance; OK would have got the bid before ISU

justin love was very good. but he didnt score like parker was scoring before the dislocation. had he not had that injury i wouldnt doubt he would had a 40+ pt game by year end.
Probably in the A-10 Conference Tournament championship game!

I'm not as hot on Parker - injury prone this year. Unclear how well he will recover from surgery and so on after the offseason. Lot of unknowns there. Rumor is he was causing grief behind the scenes. He used up one of his years this year with little/no playing time & development... We can move on and find other guys who can score. Scorers are common in today's game, finding rebounding & defense is much harder with how many guys can shoot the 3 now.
Right, guys that average 16 pts/20 min, hit 42.6% from 3pt, and score 30+ pts three games in a row are a dime a dozen.
LOL!

So, from reading these threads it looks like the MVC got 1 and the A10 got 2 so that should put the discussion that the MVC is as good as the A10 to rest. I am not being serious here but it does make you stop and think.
If an A-10 team won 28 games, they would be an NCAA lock, and likely a 4 to 6 seed. ISU winning 28 and being snubbed tells me that the Valley is even worse than I thought.

Again, factor in Parker’s 30+, and the Bills easily win this game. Just a bad luck season all around!

Wait ‘til next year!
