  1. I don’t think that is accurate, crowds are materially lower this season than last season and last season was far from a high-water mark.
  2. Yeah, maybe this is the game where giving up uncontested wide open 3s is a good defensive strategy.
  3. And when you read some of the posts from when it appears Ford was first rumored to be the choice (I had forgotten about the PR mess it became), this is exactly what some folks predicted. He would improve the talent, the talent would have some success, but underachieve, and then things would fall apart. Really crazy how prophetic some were and reading the take from the Oklahoma State fan is wild. I called him as mediocre as they come, the white Frank Haith, so I am not pretending I was one of those people as I never give a measured take.
  4. It is interesting how prophetic some of these posts ended up being (including an Oklahoma State fan spelling out what we would be getting). Yet, a year in folks decided to dunk on those individuals (hilarious to read at this point) with many acknowledging they were wrong and then here we are with those initial posts being spot on. Really interesting to read. Maybe we aren't the collection of morons I thought we were!
  5. Yeah, I don't understand him not getting any minutes. The defense is so bad from our guards that I refuse to believe he could make it any worse. When he did get some minutes in the SIU and Drake games it seemed like he showed the ability to be somewhat disruptive on defense, but I don't remember those games overly closely at this point. I circle back to my first comment though, the defense cannot get any worse on the perimeter.
  6. I think most are under the belief that happened in the spring and that we are presumably minus one year of the buyout this spring. I don't have any connection to folks who would know, so just what I have pieced together from those who seem to know posting on here or other forums. I have no clue whether folks like Novelly, Chaifetz, etc. are willing to contribute to buyout Ford at $10 million and then fund the salary for a new coach, but I think we have now reached the point where the cost of retaining him becomes a significant factor needing to be considered if the thought is we don't have $10 million. I think we also need to realize this is now the cost of doing business at the major level. Typing Novelly and Chaifetz, the thought of the Chaifetz son telling Novelly no, we are good with Ford is amusing to me (this is merely based on those Tweets). I can imagine Novelly asking who the hell he is and why is he speaking to him.
  7. While I tend to agree that was likely validation of the number, I would note the account that referenced the $10 million was the account that then went into real troll mode and not Shane's account if I remember correctly. I assume it had to be tied to Shane or someone tied to the family, but I don't think we know that as fact. It would seem like the $10 million is logical based on what folks have posted with regards to his annual compensation and knowing there is no chance he has a contract beyond 5 years.
  8. And forced 17 TOs. That is the stat with this team that just amazes me, Davidson had 3 TOs last night (in conference play Saint Joseph's and George Mason had 5 against us and no opponent in conference play has committed more than 9 TOs against). The defense is incredible, takes absolutely nothing away from our opponent.
  9. Our defense is so bad, it really is something to watch. To see a team consistently give up unguarded 3s off of one pass is just impressive, I’m not even mad. Absolutely no clue on defense, we make it so easy for our opponents. We just hope they miss open 3s or open shots in the paint. The only way for this group to win is to knock down 3s at a high clip and tonight obviously that wasn’t happening.
  10. Sadly, Huffman is stronger than any guard we have.
  11. Any idea what game that was? I remember early in the season him and SVB got into it a bit. I believe SVB slammed the ball down after a big Billiken play where the ball ended up near the Billiken bench as a TO was called and Dalger went at him.
  12. No question about that. We saw that at Oklahoma State where he was often able to attract talent, but his teams would seldom finish above .500 in conference play. When he happened to hit on the right mix there his team finished 3rd in the league, was a 5 seed in the NCAA tournament, and they ended up losing in the opening round of the tournament by 13 to the #12 seed Oregon. But, the consistency of play was never there to regularly finish in the top half of a strong league where all of the teams are talented. We are seeing similar things at SLU, certainly better finishes in the league than he had at Oklahoma State, but the same issues and now things have really fallen off of a cliff (I suppose there is still 1.5 months left in the season, but to this point).
  13. Oh yeah, no question there. I was merely commenting that I have found Ford to be fairly candid over the past 12+ months with regards to the deficiencies of his teams and his commentary is in line with what those on this board complain about. Again, that doesn't make me feel any better about the team or change my evaluation of Ford, merely commenting that I at least appreciate him directly acknowledging the issues as opposed to pretending they don't exist like so many coaches do when speaking to the media. My commentary was completely limited to the quote and his direct acknowledgement of our deficiencies as a team. I have little trust in Ford ever being the guy to "fix" a roster that has deficiencies. The key for a guy like Ford is building the right roster that makes up for his deficiencies as a coach. Unfortunately, he has not found or stumbled into the right mix of players since guys like Goodwin and French moved on (he never maximized those rosters either) and it now has me questioning whether talent evaluation and roster construction is another deficiency of Ford's.
  14. Yeah, as much as I think I am done with Ford, in his interviews over the past few weeks he has said everything I would want him to with regards to assessing the team and I thought he often did a year ago too. I realize some coaches never say anything to the media critical of their team, but he has highlighted all of the areas we have said the team needs to get better at which to me I like to hear. I don't listen after games, but in the interviews before the games he is candid with the deficiencies of this group. I would note on Pomeroy, our defense is ranked #305. Obviously, it is his job to fix it, but he clearly sees the same deficiencies as we do. So, he just leaves it up to his son and his buddies to make the excuses!
  15. I find myself rather confident that we beat Davidson, but maybe I’m a fool.
  16. It would have to predate 2001, I remember watching Brad Davis and Dipsy and they wore jerseys with Saint Louis huge on the front and they were Nike.
  17. The video is very strange. It was like he was running to close out on the shooter where the still shot is taken and then threw his arms up quickly trying to back away once he realized the Dayton player had the ball (like oh crap, I messed up). Stay off the damn court.
  18. That’s the other way to get coaches off of the court. Imagine a Bonner type throwing one punch at an opposing head coach, they’d no doubt stay off of the court going forward seeing a peer wheeled off on a stretcher. It’s just so bizarre to see, almost like another defender at times. In general, head coaches are allowed to act like complete maniacs and I will never understand how it is just accepted.
  19. I’m pretty sure head coaches are now allowed to shove opposing players while cursing them out, so that’s a neat look….. Makes you wonder what the opinion of the opposing player would be if he rightfully knocked out the adult millionaire acting like a tough guy, I have some ideas how the player would be labeled. You are completely right, time to really crack down on it by over enforcing and over penalizing, it’s so strange to watch some of these coaches on the court and it’s most games/coaches, get off the court.
  20. I think I am with you on that. While I am sure there will be outliers, we primarily need to win from the 3 point line against solid opponents. We will see whether Parker and Ezewiro somewhat change that.
  21. Does @The Wiz have a more advanced metric we can use?!?!
