i wish all who served our country a joyous but somber memorial day. i will never forget.

my basic was jan-mar 1968. i had a student deferment which i eventually lost after grad school. went on to artillery training at fort sill, spent a few months at fort ord (calif), and then on to vietnam to serve with the 1st inf div. came home in sept 69. basic was worse than vietnam. i think the army planned it to work that way.

yikes! brings back bad memories. in the army, it was called basic training. for me, it was fort leonardwood in the middle of winter. the 2 months of basic were worse than anything i've ever experienced.

willie declaring for the NBA draft
Dungeon Yankee replied to brianstl's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
if WR was in fact punished at the time of his misdeeds, then so be it. i was under the impression that he wasn't. but that still doesn't excuse his treatment at the "court" which was a violation of all standards of fairness. it was in fact a disgrace and done for the purpose of appeasing a big donor, cook i believe. -

but for the kangaroo court, the outcome might have been different, assuming he is gone. this university has lost a lot of its moral authority as far as i'm concerned. one of the posters said he should have been dealt with immediately regarding these "other" infractions. he is correct. the university knows better(so do their attorneys) but they chose this course of action anyway. sad. -
Happy veterans day to all those who have served. A special "welcome home" to anyone who served in vietnam.

after reading about the possible problems for some of our athletes, it sort of puts things in the proper perspective -
take the time to watch and listen. It only lasts a few minutes I hope I linked it correctly. If not, tell me how. http://www.army.mil/medalofhonor/miller/battlescape.html

my first look at the slu "campus" was 1965. you are absolutely correct, your wife would not have been impressed. it was hardly a campus. the major positive changes started with the coming of biondi. perhaps others will differ, but that is my recollection over the last 45 years

he has a three star rating from rivals. also, in an article on the the Penn State message board, it appears that majerus' reputation with big men was a factor in his selection of saint louis

OT: the NFL's process rule
Dungeon Yankee replied to Dungeon Yankee's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
was thinking the same thing when i made the post. the no catch that was ruled a catch. that was a terrible ruling by the officials way back then. but that mel gray no catch td doesn't excuse this terrible rule -

he had possession of the ball after his body(knee) hit the ground. it was only after the ball hit the ground that it came out. but the replay clearly showed he had total control of the ball until the ball hit the ground. i just think it's a bad rule, especially how it applied to this situation -
anybody catch the end of that bears-lions game. the sensational catch for a td by the lions' calvin johnson was ruled incomplete because of the "process" rule. i heard it explained and still don't understand it. anyway, what a terrible rule. that was a great play by johnson

He is now hitting .296. I can't remember him hitting this poorly so far into a season.

Curious to see and watch if/how conferences will downsize. To date, we have seen conferences go from 8 to 12 (Big XII), from 10 to 11 and then 12 (Big 10) and from 10 to 12 (PAC 10), etc. Yes, the Big XII just downsized from 12 to 10 but that was from voluntary defections. If the Big 10 or Big East could add ND (football), they'd do it immediately. Wonder if the Big 10 would ask some to leave to just keep growing. this issue of downsizing came up when penn state was in the process of joining the B10. there was talk of NW leaving. it turned out to be all talk. the simple answer at that time was NO, no school would be asked to leave. i'm not saying that couldn't change, but i seriously doubt the B10 asks any school in the "brotherhood" to leave. the schools are bonded in many more ways than just sports. psu was probably more of a step brother for many years and it is open to debate if they are a full fledged "brother".

Conference realignments and travel
Dungeon Yankee replied to bonwich's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
When I was in Detroit Metro Airport last year, I saw direct flights listed to State College, PA. I seriously doubt Detroit has direct flights to State College if PSU was not in the B10. I think that soon there will be direct flights to Lincoln from all the B10 airports -
this will be his 4th year. he probably could apply for a medical redshirt for last year and have one more year remaining. but it is my understanding he wants to go to med school. he wants to get that started. sound reasoning.

and you can run, what many consider, the cleanest program in america and still have problems. see joe paterno and penn state and the problems they've had over the past decade. this incident over the weekend is not a reflection on the school or the program. it is a reflection on the people involved, plain and simple. neither slu nor majerus have a reputation for this type of thing.

just checked out some stats on some familiar names. adam knollmeyer averaged 24 minutes a game for Mo.U S&T. he was also the leading rebounder. i'd say he made a good decision. good school and got to play a lot josh harrelson at Ky. he played in 22 games of the 38 played and averaged 4 minutes a game in those which he played. he was the 11th man in terms of minutes played. one year of eligibility remaining, but i doubt the situation improves all that much next year. in my opinion, he made a mistake

i read that neither oregon nor oregon state will play us, so we have a game with portland to serve as conklin's homecoming game. i don't understnd why they wouldn't play us. is it because it is a home and home and they don't want to play us in st louis? or is it that they don't want to play us at their place? i would think they would play us one game at their place, but i could be wrong. what about other homecomings, like for KM or WR?

Smith is a tweener (3 and 4). seems like he'd be better served playing a 4 at a Div 2 school
