  1. Preview says that a streaming link will be posted closer to game time, so I would assume there will be one.
  2. Billikens vs. Oral Roberts - 7 p.m. Friday night Details: The Billikens kick off their 2013 campaign Friday night when they host Oral Roberts at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. SLU, the defending Atlantic 10 Conference champion, is ranked as high as No. 8 in the preseason soccer polls. For a complete preview, click here. Tickets: Tickets are available at the gate for $10 (adults) and $5 (youth). Promotions: The first 75 youth (12 and under) receive a free SLU youth soccer jersey.
  3. Thanks for the info. I saw that the article was listed under "News" on the Billikens ESPN.com page and I was curious about it because of the Dixon headline.
  4. I don't have any inside info to report, but I think local kids make trips to SLU quite often for open gyms or unofficial visits. My understanding is that Cook and Hollins are closer to low-major talents than SLU's level. Therefore, I would think both sides are/were just checking things out and it would surprise me if they actually got offers unless they improve quite a bit.
  5. I could be wrong, but my understanding is that the video coordinator position will not be shooing video or making videos for the public. He will be taking video shot by others of SLU and their opponents and breaking them down / compiling them for use in film sessions with the team. Basically he is working on scouting opponents and his own players.

  7. I noticed this too and thought it was odd for all of reasons you listed. Thanks for checking in on it. *sarcasm* Someone at collegesoccernews.com must be a former PD employee with a bias against SLU.
  8. ...women's basketball that is (I'm sorry ). http://www.mutigers.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/082713aac.html Most depressing line: Let's hope coach Stone can change that sometime soon. Funny that Mizzou's women aren't scared to play SLU, but the men are.

  11. Without comment, here is a student-made "documentary" on Femi: http://hankssportsblog.com/perseverance-of-a-dream/ His whole situation including playing at UMSL and getting his MBA is pretty much explained in the documentary.
  12. I think they included it as part of the freshman orientation type activities so there were likely a lot of freshman and their families.

  15. We don't know what X, Gonzaga, Butler, etc. are paying their assistants, but we do know the athletic/basketball budgets. I'm too lazy to look it up now, but the NCAA releases the total $ spent on athletics/basketball. SLU's $ spent are well below those schools, so the assumption is that they are cheaping out in most areas assistant coaches included. The other factor that fuels this assumption is the story (rumor?) that Majerus had to part or all of some of his ACs salary out of his own pocket.
  16. Corey Evans ‏@coreyevans_1015s Indy Elite 2015 big Josh Speidel lists interest from Evansville, Michigan, Purdue, Indiana,Ball St, St. Louis, S. Alabama, C of C, & DePaul
  17. I think the love affair with assistant coaches stems from having Majerus as coach and knowing that it was only a matter of time before he retired due to failing health (although I'm not sure many anticipated it playing out the way it did). Now we have another older coach and we are still wondering who the successor will be. I'm not saying it is right or you shouldn't complain about it. I'm just explaining the mindset. I agree with milwaukeebill that the most successful programs that are similar to ours seem to thrive by hiring from within (see Xavier, Butler, Gonzaga). I think the issue with SLU hiring from within seems to be that the administration is too cheap to pony up some decent cash to keep good assistants around. Therefore, we lose good assistants after a year or two rather than grooming them as potential head coaches down the road (see Harriman). I've even heard some chatter about Cheaney already that he is a good hire and will help, but won't be at SLU long before he moves on to a bigger job. I'm hopeful that if he is as great as everyone is saying then the administration will do what it takes to keep him around if another school needing an assistant wants to pry him away.
  18. Article on Tatum from today: http://ny2lasports.com/article_one.aspx?articleid=1540 Money quote: Tatum entered the spring with a good list of offers from Division I colleges already, but has added a few more significant ones since the last update, receiving scholarships from hometown university Saint Louis, and gaining Michigan State, Ohio State and North Carolina. He shared a brief insight about his thoughts on those schools... SLU: “I grew up watching SLU most of the time ‘cause my dad attended there and he played at Saint Louis University.”
  19. Didn't listen, but here is the twitter buzz on the interview: Ben Weixlmann ‏@BWeixScout4h New @SaintLouisMBB assistant Calbert Cheaney on @MiddleRelief920: "I just want to contribute any way that I can." Ben Weixlmann ‏@BWeixScout4h Cheaney: "I'm willing to do anything it takes for the [#SLU] program it takes to blossom and continue to blossom." Ben Weixlmann ‏@BWeixScout4h Cheaney says that Jalen Rose was without a doubt the biggest trash talker back when they played in the #B1G. Ben Weixlmann ‏@BWeixScout4h Cheaney on playing now? "Don't get it twisted. I can still go. They might have to carry me out on a stretcher..." #SLU #iubb Brian Hank Haenchen ‏@Brian_Haenchen4h Cheaney on 920: "I want to do all those things whether it's recruiting or as a bench guy...I just want to contribute in any way that I can." Brian Hank Haenchen ‏@Brian_Haenchen4h Cheaney: "[Crews] is just a good all-around person... Talking with him & being around him & his family, that's what sold me on the program."
  20. Yeah I think there is confusion because someone posted the DBO job description that included a lot of things about scheduling recruiting visits. A DBO scheduling recruiting visits doesn't make them a recruiter just like a legal secretary scheduling client meetings doesn't make them an attorney. This isn't to say I don't think Calbert will be a good recruiter. I think he will. However, he doesn't really have any experience with it.
  21. Frank Cusumano ‏@Frank_Cusumano9m Big day on the program: Mike Ditka at 1030, Jim Thomas at 1045, Dale Murphy at 11 and coach Jim Crews at 1130 Brian Hank Haenchen ‏@Brian_Haenchen29m Sources indicate that @SaintLouisMBB's new assistant coach Calbert Cheaney will join @MiddleRelief920 this afternoon. #SLU #iubb Brian Hank Haenchen ‏@Brian_Haenchen27m 920 AM, y'all. RT @joeroderick: @Brian_Haenchen @SaintLouisMBB @MiddleRelief920 I can confirm... 12:15
  22. Apparently he will be on 920AM at 12:15pm. Fair warning for those who listen the Middle Relief show consists of Bryan Burwell, Joe Strauss, and Charlie Marlow. To anyone who listens and their ears aren't bleeding too bad afterwards a re-cap would be appreciated.
