Pretty bad end of game management. Why call a time out to not have a play.  I hope he learns from that if he’s coming here

LOL .... And I suppose you are a big time coach or something.

I have a sinking feeling he’s gonna stay at ISU. Those fans were crazy. Give him $700k and pay those guys to return, he may be thinking I can go deep in the dance. This may be my Billiken Paranoia coming to the fore, but I think we better be looking elsewhere unless we got him by the nuts legally.

Well if SLU doesn't have Schertz locked up already and he doesn't become the SLU coach, then May is an idiot.  You don't "sit on your hands" for 2 weeks waiting for Shertz if you don't pretty much have a sealed deal ..... so I think Schertz is already signed.

But isn't that what is happening?  Guys on this board are saying he is bringing players with him.  Where would they be getting that from?

They are pulling those rumors from their buttholes.  I hope a couple players come with the new coach, whoever that is ..... but I don't believe anything these days until it actually happens.

Yes he does.  His #1 option should be SLU under Coach Schertz.

Well, yes, would love to get him back to SLU.  But an advanced degree from a top business school like Northwestern would look nice on the resume.

In order of preference, I want this dream roster...

    1) Avilla

    2) Conwell

    3) Kent

    4) Larry

    5) Swope

    * The reason I have Swope last, is because if he doesn't come over, then we welcome back Gibby.

Then I'm fine taking all three of Schertz's incoming recruits, especially the big man, and let's keep our recruit Williford, who I'm intrigued with.  With an experienced starting lineup, I would be fine having four freshman because there won't be a lot of available minutes.

So that leaves four more spots.

    1) I like Thames as a bench guy, good athleticism and versatility... a solid back-up to Kent

    2) A combo guard who is a great perimeter defender first and foremost

    3) A more offensive minded combo guard to provide additional ballhandling and another shooter (possibly Hughes, I thought he was over-exposed this year, but in a more limited role, could be effective)

    4) Most important, a rim protector & or a bad ass rebounding big

Swope is a 5'10" PG.  Not a swap for Gibson Jimerson.

If Josh Schertz is a man of his word, which all signs indicate he is, everyone here will be pleased. Further, there’’s no sense in rooting against this ISU team this week. The more post-season experience this team has, the better.

I too hope if Schertz is hired, a couple of his players come with him.  But to think the whole starting five comes is very, very unlikely.

Ace, i understand and you have a reasonable concern.   most of us have a softspot for our alma mater.   but keep in mind Schertz's bad experience leaving tennis and the way he was treated by his own family.   i.e. beyond school, florida doesnt necessarily have all great memories for him.

to qualify my above statement.   that is just my opinion after reading his background and watching the interview that abomb posted about a week ago on Coach Schertz.   no where have i read or heard Schertz say he has a problem or apprehension about returning to florida.

I believe Coach Schertz is all but a done deal.   probably just need a signature to the agreed to verbal agreement.

the thing i have a hard time believing is the general belief that he will bring his starting 5 with him.  i cant think of a single situation where a coach even brought 2 or 3 players with him when he switched schools let alone 5!   i will believe that when it happens.

Odom took two of his starters with him from Utah State to VCU.

Why do some think that Schertz is the only good candidate there is.  I don't think you can put all your eggs in one basket.  The longer we drag this out or stay the course in your words the bigger the chance of us being left out.

You ever think that just maybe a contract is already signed with agreement it starts after the Indiana State season has concluded?  That's my guess.

Let me get this straight, it may appear that Schertz may be looking for better placement than SLU? In other words he is holding us to see if he can get  a better opportunity elsewhere? Of course, the thought will never occur to May that he may be playing us for a better deal. If he continues delaying, just screw him and go for someone else.

It makes perfect sense to me that a deal may be in place, but will not be announced until Schertz's current team completes its season.  For Schertz or any dignified coach, that is the right thing to do IMO.

It is light years better than our defense this season.

Boy, sure didn't see that watching Indiana State the other night when they let SMU score 92 on them.  Will watch again Sunday .... but was not impressed with their D.  Indiana state ranked at 102 in team defensive efficiency so adequate at best.  Of course the SLU Bills were so, so terrible on D so I guess anything will be better than the D they had this season.

A lineup with Swope, Conwell, Gibby, Kent, and Avila with guys like (Julian) Larry, Larry (Hughes), Thames, and anyone else off the bench would killlllll in the A10.

I've always wanted to see Gibby light it up in a SLU uniform in the big dance...please give me one more chance at that HCJS

Better score a lot.  That lineup really lacks defensive skills.  Small PG, a center floor bound and not quick, two off-guards that are adequate at best on D ..... do like Kent a lot.

I guess when they didn’t make the tournament that expedited things for coach?

100% agree.  Ahearn would be a big reach .... unproven coach.

ISU is below 20% chance of making it. Too many bid thieves, especially yesterday. Dayton 100% in the tourney. I doubt the A-10 gets 2 NCAA teams and 4 NIT teams.

Below 30 NET for Indiana State.  Yes, they got the mid-major screw job.  Using the NCAA preferred measuring tool .... they get "tooled".

best of luck to all them wherever they end. will follow them all. I think there is some unwarranted hate for Sincere. Came here with with Perkins like past. had same bad luck with injuries, MBM all luv Perkins, rightly so & Parker kept trying as much as anyone could imo.

Well seems Parker tried on the offensive side of the court.  Given the athleticism he showed on offense, I would think he could be a hell of a defensive player if the new coach could convince him to focus on that side of his game.

All will be immediately eligible, so you will probably see most of the roster enter. I've been told that Jimerson has several reasons to stay and his intention was to stick around regardless of a coaching change. Given his NIL deal, he's probably a good bet to come back. Sincere's injury-plagued season probably limits his NIL possibilities elsewhere, so coming back may be in his best interest. Personally, I'd try to keep Gibby, Sincere, and Ezewiro regardless of the new coach. I would assume Larry will stay.  If we land a developmentally-focused coach I wouldn't mind keeping Cian and Thames.

Yes, those are the six I'd most like to see come back.  I really like Thames's and Medley's potential.  Thames can create his own shot, seems to be a plus defender and plays with energy.  Medley has come a long way and looks like a keeper to me.

  16. I'm expecting that the majority of the roster will enter the transfer portal, especially players with 2 to 3 years of eligibility left which is most of the roster. It will be an interesting developing story that will be happening at the same time SLU is searching for a new coach.  It will also be interesting to see which players the new coach, when hired wants to retain at SLU.

If they fire him Sunday I want odds on SLU making an A-10 tourney run!!! The inspiration will be enough to rally around! Win it for Ford?

If you've watched this team all year you know a one game run is about all we can hope for.  This team can't defend or rebound.  You can't have a run if you can't do those two things.

  18. 22 hours ago, TRN said:

They have 45 days to enter the portal.  But they have beyond that timeframe to pick a school.

Not good for teams expected to fire their coach.  If Ford's going to be canned, do it quick.  And have the new coach hired by the following week so he has time to "work" the portal.
