  1. is this game on the internet anywhere? i tried justin.tv but couldn't find it...
  2. That was a pretty weak court rush. You can tell that those were either the die hard Blue Crew or the drunk crowd from Mardi Gras (those that were able to avoid the afternoon nap, that is). Either way, nothing like when the time I got to chest bump Marquis Perry after we beat #2 Louisville.
  3. Arbitrary personal opinion: I think Tommy looks tougher without the dreads.
  4. The only reason Miami is seriously being considered is because Barcelona has come in (similar to Chivas) in the hope of forming a US affiliate. They have pockets/brand appeal big enough to (potentially) offset traditionally poor attendance.
  5. Completely unrelated to the current team, but an interesting tidbit nonetheless: Former SLU player update
  6. Stole this from a soccer blog... I was over for the USA v. England game and noticed that his leaving Fulham made a decent splash in the papers. Here's a link to a really nice tribute video from the Fulham website: http://www.fulhamfc.com/Club/News/NewsArti...rideSalute.aspx
  7. I've had a blast watching all Gold Cup games, however, I have to agree that our defense is suspect. It might help if we could actually clear a ball... The one player I really wanted to say something about was Justin Mapp. I feel like he is our best dribbler and a solid crosser on the left. I wish he would get more playing time over Beasley who, from what I've seen, has not provided the same creative spark. [Note: I know he's scored two goals, but the first one was super lucky and the second was in garbage time following the play]. What do you guys think?
  8. Do you know what position he played? I watched Benet in the state playoffs and their center midfield was pretty amazing - one of them would be a nice pickup.
  9. Is there a list floating around somewhere naming SLU players on professional teams?
  10. FYI: I just picked up a copy of Street and Smith's College BB preview and it has a nice piece on the Bills (as well as on other A-10 teams). Of interest: -SLU picked to finish second behind Xavier -IV picked first team A-10 -Kevin Lisch named "best under pressure" in the league -SLU's recruting class ranked #8: "Billikens went big with three players of 6-8 or taller. THeir rebounding and depth improves right away." -SLU's offense received a 4/5, but our defense only a 3/5 -Impact Rookie (for SLU, not whole A-10): Obi Ikeakor, "He was a well-regarded signee, but experienced serious knee problems. If Ikeakor is healthy following a medical redshirt year, he can add defensive bulk and scoring." Has anyone else found good pre-season articles on the Bills?
  11. i believe the woolworth's building is becoming the new boys and girls club of st louis and also the building behind jazz at the bistro should be rehabbed next year, focussing on performing arts. also, i heard that the space next to world's best is spotted to be a restaraunt.
  12. I'm a graduating senior this year and have been following the team pretty regularly this year/trying to get some friends to drink beers and take advantage of the free tickets we get. That approach didn't work too well besides with the casual college bball fan, however, more people have taken notice and at least been receptive and open to going to games since the team has done better. People are usually pretty surprised to hear SLU is in second place. All in all, from what I've noticed, most students are from out of town, either live on campus and prefer to drink/stay there or live off campus and are pretty isolated from the SLU community altogether. I think until the team starts doing better on a more consistant basis, its hard to motivate the average student to go to games. I think the on campus arena will help future classes (coupled with the exctiting team were putting together). Just one dudes take on things.
  13. I've always enjoyed SLU v. DePaul, Marquette as well. Or maybe it's just that I applied to all of these schools and enjoy seeing them hash it out...
  14. I agree that it is dificult to seriously answer questions about the team after only two exhibition games (versus D-II teams also). However, I haven't read too many posts analyzing our defense. I'm used to Coach's teams playing solid D all game, no matter who's on the court. I was a little worried to see Maryville get some easy layups under the basket in the second half. True, we did create a lot of turnovers, but I think that was just SLU's better athleticism showing. Has Coach been more preocuppied with his new offense than teaching/conditioning for the hard nosed defense SLU's been known for the past few years??
  15. You're right Dewey. A buddy of mine is a walk on at Notre Dame and told me that they have two two-hour full team practices where the coach is present.
