  1. Thanks for the info. Any word on what the injury was/if it's 100%? I read this guy has a 7ft wingspan which leads me to believe he's an important part of your rebounding scheme / dunking attack.
  2. Just curious, but he apparently averages around 24/mpg but really didn't do much the last 5; injured or not needed? I assumed if you're blowing teams out you might let a freshman get some experience. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/57002/adonis-thomas
  3. I just did a quick rundown of Memphis's roster / minutes per game. It looks like they basically play 6 deep (another 2-3 players get about 10 minutes per game but don't look to be offensive threats). Also, they don't have any size (6'9" 207 starting PF, then pretty much guards). Looks like a game of tempo: if we play SLU ball (good defense, make them work on defense, keep the turnovers down) and don't shoot horribly, we might be able to get them into foul trouble and really expose their back ups. However, if they come out shooting lights out and get into the open court, they can put up some points quick on us. Should be interesting to see how it plays out.
  4. I know this is a new arrangement with Halsted Harp, so I was surprised to see an RSVP email from SLU's alumni office earlier this week. In the six years since I've graduated, this is the most responsive/targeted alumni action I've seen. That said, I'll be there.
  5. Proviso East has to be one of the lone holds outs of the "t-shirt jersey."
  6. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it out tonight either. However, I will try to be available for any and all future games. Go BIlls!
  7. The radio feed is not working for me either.
  8. I love the band but miss the old rugby shirts....
  9. Agreed; couldn't find the facebook page.
  10. Jimmy Two Times / Havel - you both made some good points. I live in Chicago as well and am familiar with the "alumni bar" situation; it's actually quite ridiculous. Did you know that Cortland's Garage in Bucktown is the official home to.... TCU? Independent bar is the way to go, for sure. The Four Corners group spends a decent amount advertising for Big 10 events (I imagine they have arrangements with alumni groups?) but make a killing; I don't see any reason for them to go out of their way to adopt the Billikens. I know a good group of my SLU/Dayton friend will be a Finley Dunne's, which aside from being a Dayton bar, is the type of bar that we may want to target: a bit out of the way, independent (to my knowledge), and willing to put the sound on for all games.... Havel, what bars do you know in the West Loop. Holiday Club/Haymarket? Or are you thinking of the bars on Madison: Jaks/West End/Beer Bistro, etc? Another thought might be 6 Corners on Damen/Division/Milwaukee. They generally seem pretty dead and might like some business...
  11. I saw this game as well - they looked horrible: couldn't score, consistently turned the ball over (with stupid, weak, skip passes) and continually dribbled right into a half court trap and picked up their dribble. Also, they have no size. One positive was that the remake of the Gentile Center looks really good. Hopefully that helps Porter recruit some kids to play up in Rodgers Park.
  12. Couldn't make it tonight, however, very likely that I will be watching the SLU v. Dayton game at Finley Dunne's @ 3458 North Lincoln on 2/4 with my Dayton buddies.
  13. Pretty dumb of me to miss the West tournament, but I'm going to make a point to go to Uncle Remus Fish and Chicken before catching an East game this year. I want to see this dude play before he gets buried behind KM, JJ, MM, and JB next year.
  14. So nothing in terms of free streams? I used to watch on justin.tv but that doesn't seem to work anymore... Also, who DOESN'T like vampires?
  15. Joining late this evening... is there video for tonight? I need to see who has the best new 'do this season...
  16. 1. The sound of a 16oz. of beer for $5 is refreshing to me. I still love the fact that we have beer vendors on campus and that they were around for practice. Good work, SLU. 2. More importantly, has anyone developed a consistent 3 point shot? Unless KM was driving or alley-ooping to Big Willie, our offense has looked pretty anemic in recent years. I believe that if other teams have to keep a defender on the three point line there will be more room for KM, DE, MM, etc. to drive/create. Also, there should be more space/fractional time for our mediocre/unproven big men to finish in the paint. I know last year we ran a lot of pick and pops with CE but A) he shot a lot last year and missed quite often...; from reports in this thread, looks to be focusing on D and not taking his shot. All that said, it's still very early / I think this team will be much improved on both sides of the ball.
  17. so i'm stuck at work and cant get channelsurfing to connect... anyone have a feed to watch the game?
  18. 1. I don't believe CSU was anyone's first choice for home/home series. Must have been the last pick / closest game we could get to Milwaukee. This should be pretty obvious. We play plenty of bad teams in the pre-season (not to mention CSU every year) so I don't really care. Plus, I'm sure we have some Chicago area recruits who will get to see the team live. All in all, sounds good to me. 2. I think CSU plays most of their games away as "buy games" to fund their athletic department. Semi-related: -I think DePaul is looking to purchase land near Goose Island (a large large industrial company is moving to the suburbs) sorta off Armitage. -My roommate is a Loyola alum and we were just talking about how it's stupid SLU/LU don't play more often. -The tournament at UIC last year was really great - playing against semi good / good midwestern programs in Chicago. Really wish we could do something like this with more regularity. -Let's just bring back the Great Midwest Conference. Anyone have some pull? -I was drinking at Humphrey's before a wedding this summer and ran into BC, CS and a couple others eating lunch. Those guys are pretty cool.
  19. Actually, the starting 5 at Foreman are all D1 recruits. I'm going to try to make some of these playoff games.
  20. So, I couldn't listen to the SLU v URI game on the internet Wednesday night. No big deal because I'm dvr-ing Foreman v Marshall and at least I can scout out Mike McCall, right? Too bad the first game went into overtime and I only had the first quarter to watch. In my one quarter of viewing I was surprised by: 1. The head coach of Foreman is easily just as big as RM 2. McCall played the 2 (I thought I read on here that he was supposed to be a PG...?) 3. He looked very comfortable shooting from the outside / can really drive to the hoop. He is easily taller, stronger, and (appeared) more confident than JJ (who I like). I don't know if these links will show up but first one has some photos, second a nice game recap: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/highs...31.photogallery http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/highs...0,4246275.story
  21. i just want to confirm that we haven't scored during our last 5 possessions, right? wtf.
  22. channel surfing is working for me. you might be lucky, however, in that you missed seeing big willie's jump shot attempt.
  23. Actually, I disagreee. I was at the Kennesaw State game and attendance was much lower than 6000+. But on the bright side, it made it easier for me to sneak into some good seats.
  24. This was my first time seeing the Bills this year and I think my friend summed up the situation pretty well when he said, "They are going to have their ups and downs this season, but you can see the talent out there." For example, we block the first three shots (I thought WR had 3 in a row...) from KSU and get a steal. Then, we convert 4 layups to go up 8-0. After that start, I thought we would cruise. However, a 3/4 court 1-2-2 trap really threw our guys for a loop. I'm assuming coach wanted the guys to break the press a certain way (i.e. passing) because in the second half the guards must have heard me and decided to dribble the ball up court (and then we had cutters going to the basket for some easy layups). I hope this was the case because we looked pretty bad picking up our dribbles in awkard spots, didn't come to the ball very well, and were settling for jump shots when we didn't turn the ball over. During this time our lead was cut significantly. Still, this was a great win considering it was a 1pm Sunday game and the guys were coming off a big win against Nebraska (relatively speaking). I thought this could be a trap game and they way we were able to overcome turnovers and scoring droughts as well as hit 3's against a surprisingly good KSU team makes me feel good. Also, we will win a lot more games if WR decides to just dunk it all the time and continue to run the break. I think we'll beat ISU this Friday and then have Harangody and the Irish give us a few things to work on before conference starts.
  25. it also frustrates me that espn is hyping arkansas / louisville at the kiel but i can't find slu on the internet...
