  1. Most likely... I was sad to see Ginger leave, but Cheryl Scott actually has her beat. This has nothing to do with Valpo, just the random, good looing fill-in meteorologists.
  2. Not true regarding no land in LP to build a stadium. The long rumored move of A Finkl and Sons (steel manufacturer) just north of Goose Island is actually happening. This is a great spot for a 8-10K stadium. I don't know what DePaul does with the $30-40K/year it takes from its 35K undergrad (plus all of its grad students), but hopefully they would be able to pony up and buy this. A stadium at McCormick Place is not the answer. Has anyone ever been to a Bears game? That is the most illogical location for 10K people to drive/park (don't tell me you are going to take public transportation here unless you live in Bronzeville or U Village) on a random weeknight.
  3. Not sure, but just found this article posted two days ago: http://teamnigeriabasketball.com/tnb-interview-randy-onwuasor/ Of note: TNB: Going into College, can you give us a breakdown of the teams that are currently on your radar? Randy Onwuasor: St.Louis, Florida State, Seton Hall, Arkansas, UNLV and Tulane.
  4. An article from December, 2012, on McCloud: http://blogs.suntimes.com/hoopsreport/2012/12/vic_law_jayquan_mccloud_pair_o.html
  5. Looks like this guy was being recruited pretty heavily by Big10 schools. Not sure how many scholarships most teams have availabe / if A10 baskeball would ever interest this kid. That said, I wouldn't mind getting lucking and snagging a 6'8", 200 PF from Chicago late in the game: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/highschool/chi-boys-hoops-setons-alex-foster-decommits-from-minnesota-after-tubby-smith-is-fired-20130409,0,5185346.story
  6. Except an impending breach of contract lawsuit from UNM...
  7. Did anyone else look at the box score from yesterday? Rob Loe - 0 points Mike McCall - 4 points Jake Barnett - 0 points Jordair Jett - 2 points BUT DE 24 and CR 11. I am sure we will have a much tougher game tomorrow. I think OR has legit success and will pack the stands. But I take solace in the fact different guys step up whenever we need them and the fact we've had sustained road success for the first time I can remember (and as someone who went to the Butler game, I can attest to beating good teams in a rowdy environment). DE prolly won't have 24 tomorrow, but I bet Loe, Barnett, Jett, McCall will have more than 6. Assuming our D continues to be tenacious, I am confident someone will step up on O-fffense. Can't wait to see who it will be tomorrow.
  8. This is the way to do it. And if you take the blue line to California, get a PBJ at Boiler Room (slice of pizza, tall boy PBR, and a shot of Jameson for $7) and just take the Armitage bus east to to Halsted and walk a block or so north. Oh, if you have to take cash out (its cash only) but you get a free shot of Jameson to cover your ATM fee. This should make the bus ride east more enjoyable. On a side note, how many people are going to the Harp? Although it pains my soul, I have to ditch Illinois Civ Pro. The question is do I stay at the Harp and drink beer all afternoon or catch the Metra? Is that even a question?
  9. Although I never want someone to go 0-16 from the field, I am glad Cody's worst shooting performance is behind him. Also, he didn't take more than a couple of questionable shots, imo. Generally, he was either wide open or taking a normal shot within the offence.
  10. random postings from a chicago billiken in indy: 1. no way hinkle holds 10K - felt like 3. Either way, best place I've ever seen a game. 2. St. Elmo's cocktail sauce is like crack. 3. Sun King is a solid brewery 4. Butler fans were solid - passionate but friendly. 5. Bills fans were in the house tonight. So much fun to be outside STL and see so many SLU fans. 6. CHI-TOWN what? D-Wayne and Mike McCall. yes.
  11. Thanks - this helps immensely. I've never been to Indy and have no idea where anything is / not sure how early we can get to there b/c of sneaking out of work and impending snow.
  12. Thanks for the heads up. Do you have any suggestions for parking? We're staying at the Hilton Garden Inn, which according to Google, is about 6 miles south of the stadium. Also, is SLU hosting a formal pre-game meet up, or is everyone just heading to Average Joe's? Also also, is it fair to presume they don't sell $2 pre-game beers?
  13. 4 (maybe 5) driving down from Chicago on Friday. What's everyone doing before the game?
  14. I understand first point, but disagree somewhat (and I base solely on watching part of the UMass/VCU game Saturday). UMass, who I believe has some more athletic 1 v. 1 players than SLU, fell apart in the second half by consistently attacking the basket, missing shots, and not forcing VCU to expend energy playing defense. You're point about resetting the offense right over the half court line, however, is spot on. VCU is very good at trapping and has long and athletic players. Our guards are good ball handlers, but small. I think that we need to break the press, look for - but don't force - drives to the basket / long passes to the open man under the basket. Then, if we at least advance the ball to the wing, we should be in a better position to avoid a half court trap and reset the offense. At the end of the day, whoever is able to set the tempo will win this game. If VCU gets us playing fast, we will (most likely) lose. If we can force VCUinto a half court game, we have a great shot at winning. Either way, should be a fun game to watch.
  15. I'm not going to pretend that I've read this entire thread. But a random thought regarding finding a new coach. I was randomly watching UIC (I'm from Chicago) play because I've heard they are supposed to be solid this year. Towards the end of the game, Dave Kaplan (who I generally don't like, but he knows his baksetball) started praising/talking about their third year head coach, Howard Moore. Here's his school profile: http://www.uicflames.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/moore_howard00.html Now, I'm not saying this is an actual candidate for the HC position. And I'm not suggesting we should be the school to give a guy like this his first crack at a HC position But I hope we make a smart decision and recruit someone like him: a motivated upstart head coach with proven ties to STL, a successful history of recruiting, and has been exposed to various playing styles / successful coaches. An expensive, splashy signing like RM is great for publicity. However, I am doubtful we can get lucky and "buy" success / relevance a second time with a big name coach. RM - in that regard - was pretty unique [motivation, commitment to SLU / not having a family / big life outside coaching, basketball IQ]. Also, off topic - but I recently saw a movie and there was about a two minute SLU ad. I didn't know we were spending such money to recruit students from Chicago.
  16. What happened to the crazy old lady who worked the night shift? She was a beast / machine. Also, I always liked how STL had local roasters/coffee shops instead of Starbucks on every corner. Oh well, now students can enjoy over roasted coffee and ###### lattes.
  17. Granted I only saw one game, but Sterling Brown (Shannon's brother) was a beast against Simeon (game high 25 points). He's a 6'4" SG. I have no idea who's recruiting him, but why not get a Proviso East pipeline started with KC?
  18. He's super fast, defends, and although he didn't have a great offensive night he had some really nice takes into the paint against multiple and taller defenders. He missed a few 3s, but I think Proviso as a whole was 0-16 last night. He's going to be fun to have around for 4 years.
  19. I know Cody and Rob didn't light it up last night, however, their size/height were huge on defense. Not accounting for skill, our size/height matches up well (Rob 7ft 240, Cody 6-8 about 230, Conk 6-6 about 235ish). Also, I was really really surprised that DE is a sophomore and already 220. His athleticism, height and weight make him into an awesome defender/rebounder. Should be a fun chess match to see if we can get our bigs on the perimeter and hitting shots. Might force MSU to change their lineup a bit. However, I can easily see MSU pounding it inside and a few of our guys getting in foul trouble which could be ruinous. Although, I guess KM could just go off again. I'd take that. Can't wait to see this game.
  20. Not sure if anyone heard this on ESPN radio yesterday: http://espn.go.com/espnradio/show?showId=scottvanpelt2009
  21. Anyone know how strict security is about switching sections at an NCAA game? Have tickets in the corner by the entrance to the court for all games but want to migrate to the SLU section for our game.
  22. Agreed re: KC, which pretty blows b/c they don't have to guard him. I think JJ plays b/c of his size, rebounding/hops and proclivity to get a few steals (PS how awesome was it when he tried to dunk in the A10 game against La Salle off a steal?). Also, as of late, he's hit a couple of mid range jump shots which varies our offense just a bit.
