  1. FYI, Chromecast is much easier than Roku.
  2. "He'd defintiely be a guy I'd be interested in under Crew ..." What? I know Ford got a couple of transfers from bigger conferences / a top 100 recruit but when did we become so big time? True, hip surgery is no joke, but on the bright side he is like 19 years old and will essentially have a professional level rehab program picked up by whatever school he transfers to. Injury aside, this kid was a legit 6'8" power forward prospect coming out of high school with offers from Georgetown, Uconn, Miami, and Arizona that we had 0% chance of getting/we would have chopped off our right arm to have. Also, I don't like the argument that he didn't put up good numbers at Georgetown to say he's not that talented (not like our transfers exactly lit it up in the Big 10 / AAC either).
  3. It's pretty standard for college teams to train with national team / club teams that use their facilities for friendlies / international tournaments - so I would presume so. With that said, I would also presume SLU soccer would have been posting photos of that on their social media pages, so maybe not!
  4. Played in college, head coaching experience, A-10 experience, Big-10 experience, strong NY/east coast ties - don't see anything wrong with this hire. I find it interesting that Ford is not just hiring guys he knows/coached with back in the day. My presumption is that he thus is recruiting these coaches to a bottom dwelling A10 school loacted in STL with some sort of vision/plan - curious to see how this all plays out.
  5. Heard he likes the Cardinals? Maybe "Batter Up" by Nelly with a few cameos?
  6. Well, with SMU, I'm sure it's a LOT more money and he gets to literally do whatever he wants. Plus, living in Highland Park > St. Louis. I just wish we hired a young coach on the rise instead of get into silly arguments about why Stallings chose Pitt over SLU.
  7. I'm still in awe of how everyone on this board has lost their minds regarding SLU's status in college basketball with regards to hiring a coach. I'm playing devils advocate here, but exactly about our history/current state of program makes it a certainty that we could hire Stallings or Drew (aside from the fact neither ever expressed any public interest!)? Just because we allegedly have an increased budget to hire a staff, doesn't mean that we can just have our pick of the available coaching pool. We are barely relevant on the national level. Presuming we hire Ford, wouldn't it be nice to have a coach with a proven track record of recruiting? Isn't that what everyone on this board complains about (also, let's be honest, it's not THAT hard to qualify at SLU - we all knew a bunch of dumb people who went there, too)? Increasing the talent on our roster alone gives us a chance to compete in the A10 year in and year out which would be an improvement for us. Whoever the coach is, let's move the program forward and - if they aren't the long term solution - hit our home fun.
  8. I don't know why everyone has such a hard on for Drew. Sure, he's done well coaching Valpo and the upside is that he is young, played college/NBA, etc. However, the Horizon isn't exactly an awesome league and I'm not aware of any amazing coaching scheme/amazing recruiting talent he brings to the table. Also, in all honesty, if he turned down ISU last year (better conference, better program), why would he pick SLU when - according to internet reports - he is being considered by ever school with a job opening east of the Mississippi? Also x2, not sure how Bryce Drew = the "splashy big name hire" everyone that would automatically improve recruiting.
  9. As previously stated, what a great press conference. That guy has real class and character. Thanks, Coach.
  10. Driving down from Chicago with my wife will be 7 months pregnant, God bless her soul, for the 12/12/15 prime time match up against Alabama A&M. Surprisingly, there aren't any tickets for sale in sections 102-105 113-116. Anyone unable to make that game and willing to unload some tickets?
  11. We obviously won't be able to shoot as poorly from the outside and beat better competition, but a nice opponent for our first road game. SIUe wanted that game and played accordingly and the players had an offense that allowed them to "express themselves (Ash, MY bringing the ball down coast to coast for an and 1) and grind out a win down the stretch. No way in hell would I expect us to win that game with last years offense. I think sample size is too small to make determinations on which sophs improved / regressed. We looked pretty decent early last year, and, well... (*one exception being Jolly. All you had to do was beef up and give us rebounds and rim protection). I like having Miles run the point. His game has its limitations, but he plays like a badas* and wants it. Nice to see some attitude on the court.
  12. Sounds like you DO care what he does / has done.
  13. I like the new university logo but the new Billiken... Let's just say I hope they don't sell out of the old logo before I have a chance to buy some more. Should be fun explaining how the Billiken is "fierce" to people.
  14. FYI, I thought everyone knew, all you have to do is google search the title of a "sign up article" and you can read it for free... Title = After years of irrelevance, can college basketball in Chicago be revived?
  15. Maybe the best read I've from the Tribune in a while. Saw many parallels with issues debated on this board. I thought it might be of interest here since: (1) DePaul made it into the BigEast and we didn't (and they are horrible); (2) Moser took over Loyola; and (3) not landing Tatum/other local talent; (4) past success not affecting current recruiting; (5) Chicago State has often been a guaranteed win for us; etc. etc. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/ct-chicago-college-basketball-spt-1113-20151112-story.html
  16. To that point, my wife invited "celebrities" to our wedding (apparently this is a thing) and included Coach Crews. He FedEx'd a signed team jersey and wrote a very nice letter apologizing for not attending. Got it framed and (almost) hanging in my office. Class act in my book.
  17. Yes; I temper my expectations because I know we aren't / never have been a consistent D1 program. I try to remain optimistic.
  18. Anyone going to the games? I probably shouldn't (I have to move), but it's very tempting to see these dudes in person.
  19. Man, remember when we scored 20 points against GW when Majerus was our coach? Seriously, let's all take a deep breath. Everyone has to admit that the odds of landing Tatum were low AND (speak up if I am wrong) no one knows the actual facts of what were/were not done to recruit him. But really, who cares when the other schools were Duke, Kentucky, etc.? I was just happy the see SLU listed in every national article covering his recruit. Why doesn't everyone relax a bit and see how the players pan out this season. I think we have had an uptick since Majerus - at least the recruits on paper are much more appealing than when I was in school. Oh, and the average guy on the street (and recruit???) has heard of our program. With that said, I am looking for / expect improvement this year from our guards. Just hope a big man can decide to get nasty on the inside and protect the rim/rebound.
  20. Just curious... why the Bahamas (besides the obvious)? I mean, do they even have decent teams to scrimmage against?
  21. And isn't Eric Davies the starting left back for the Canadian U-18 team? On a side note, is there anyway to order a SLU soccer jersey yet? I really want a long sleeve one.
  22. I love the stadium, but we do have expensive tickets given (1) our tame collegiate atmosphere; (2) the program's relative lack of "success." Plus, once you throw on the 2-3 beer surcharge...
  23. "We all know JM is what he is but he did go 4-for-4 at the line. While the 8 points is a "yay!' he had two rebounds. TWO. A seven-footer. How does that happen?" Just one minor correction: A seven foot senior.
  24. Exactly. Milik was able to catch the ball and quickly / smoothly get to the rim in nearly one motion. The dunk itself wasn't that great. But if you can catch and immediately attack the basket under control like that, you will score or get fouled 8/10 times.
