  1. heh, I am concerned about Board design. It is just tough because I and many others like threaded, but no one designs threaded boards anymore.
  2. Multiple moderators and posters have strongly suggested that billikenmetz be banned for comments made on the Message Board today. I will fully admit I have not read the comments or found the threads regarding the supposed inappropriate behavior. However, I am fully relying on the advice of the moderators and posters, and I am suspending Billikenmetz until November 11th. I know this is unusual, but I trust the Billikens.com moderators and respect many posters' opinions. On an additional note, I will be away from my computer for the next 40 hours or so. My dad scored tickets to the World Series and the SignGuy is coming to StL for 24 hours. I have a midterm Thursday, but it is the freaking World Series. Steve Webmaster of Billikens.com
  3. One little file got corrupted somehow between 2 and 8am on Tuesday. In the past 24 hours, I basically went through all the solutions to past problems with this board, but this was a new one. Basically the one file was not getting assigned the proper permissions (even though one FTP software suite said it was, another (like the 4th I tried) started giving me errors)). It was the forum log file. I am not exactly sure what this file does, but it was big. Basically, I riskily deleted this file and reran the forum setup. The setup recreated this file, and we now have a clean one. So, once again, the school year starts and Steve has problems with Billikens.com. But we are working now (this was actually the easiest of any problems we ever had, I just didn't know how to fix it). Sorry again. Steve
  4. I suppose I should address the situation more thoroughly due to the livelyness of conversation. I was growing continueously disappointed with the quality of discussion on the Offseason Board over time. This disappointment was compounded by multiple complaints by respected posters. Yes, I listen to posters. Some posters do carry more weight than others with me. I do not think this is unreasonable. Is someone going to listen to a friend's advice or a strangers more? As for what made the final decision. I consulted no one before I shut it down to my memory. Honestly, I checked the board one evening or morning. Saw yet another post I was displeased with, and just shut the sucker down. I remember who made the post, I will not say who it was. However, it was not necessarily their fault. Their post was just the straw that broke the camel's back. Despite multiple warnings, the forum did not improve its quality of discussion. I would like to remind everyone of the post that was Pinned at the top off the Offseason Board for two years. Everyone- We are trying something new on Billikens.com, we are expanding the discussion beyond the Billikens. Basically you are free to talk about pretty much anything here within reason. Basically, all College Basketball talk should stay on the main board, but anything else can go here. But the same rules apply There is to be no unacceptable insults based on race, gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, or anything. NONE. All of you know how to be adults on here, and I don't think a 20 year old college student needs to tell people how to be civil. If this board gets out of line at all...I will have no qualms of shutting it down. This message board will be moderated. I, Steve, will be the primary moderator, but thicks still has full moderation ability if he wishes to use it. If this board become popular, there will be the possible expansion of moderators. We will take it one step at a time. With the main board, I have taken a very hands off approach and have let it develop, but I may not here as much b/c there have been problems in the past with secondary Message Boards on Billikens.com. Let's see how this goes. Steve My life, as many of ours are, is extremely busy. Between my job, academic responsibilities, and personal commitments, Billikens.com often does not get the attention it needs. I only have so much time for Billikens.com. It is a hobby; one which became more of a chore this past year. I feel reducing Billikens.com to just Billikens talk makes my life easier and improves the discussion. There has been improvement in my eyes since getting rid of the offseason board. Probably the biggest negative is discussions and infighting like these about the Offseason Board. It is extremely doubtful it will come back, especially before NEXT summer. Again, I recommend sportscartel.com/lounge for generic talk. I am sure you can even register most of your current usernames over there. To summarize 1) I decided to shut down the Offseason Board 2) It wasn't just one post that caused its demise 3) It is not coming back for a while if ever I invite e-mails discussing the issue, but I discourage much further conversation on this board. It just clutters up the SLU talk. Finally, remember, this is just a Message Board and Web Site. Steve
  5. Not to go on a power trip, but when have you ever gotten anyplace insulting the guy in charge?
  6. Everyone- Three years ago you all impressed me with your generousity in donating $400 to Billikens.com. This money has covered the operational costs for the web site for the past three years, and before the school year starts, I would like to do another fundraising drive in the month of August. There are no requirements for donations. I am not going to set any goals. I am simply going to let users contribute this month of August, andthen I will see how much we raised. To run the web site for the next year, I will only need $10 more. With more money, it means the longer we have to go without a fundraiser and potentially more features that can be added to the web site. If you would like to donate, go to http://www.billikens.com/donations/ You may donate either by check, money order, or PayPal. Let me know if there are any questions or concerns. Thanks, Steve Rogers Webmaster of Billikens.com
  7. BTW I sincerely apologize for what this site has become to those who come here expecting quality Billiken discussion. I have grown very sick of all of this garbage. VERY SICK OF IT. And consider this my warning to ALL that EVERYONE is subject to a ban at my discretion. No reason from now on necessary to ban. I regret even temporarily banning VTime because he didn't deserve it with as much ###### as everyone has put up with in the 6 months. Some people are destroying this site, and I will not let this happen. To those who come here for legitimate, MATURE, discussion. I apologize again that you have to put up with any of this. Just so you all know, my job this summer is at least 9 to 6 and often 9 to 9. I have delete some immature online discussion that took place Monday on this site, and I hope people shape up.
  8. I moved some Billikens.com oriented topics to the Billikens.com discussion board. This is a basketball board devoted to SLU first and foremost remember. It is nice to discuss the community, but until the board returns to the quality that it has been, I am going to be a little stricter.....
  9. Until we get a new message board script, I am going to impose a strict rule of Billikens/College Basketball topics only. Moderators, please lock any threads that are off topic. Sorry to be a dictator, I just can't handle the Politics/Bickering right now. Easier to give a sweeping generalization of Locking threads, but people come to Billikens.com for Billikens talk. For good Sports and Political St. Louis oriented talk. I strongly recommend The Sport Lounge
  10. Find me a PHP Script that is Threaded and updated in the last year and we will talk.
  11. I admitedly have no problems at all. I have e-mailed the web hosting company, but they may not respond until Monday. I will run further maintenence on the board tonight. However, these two weeks are finals time for me, and Billikens.com is extremely low on priorities I am sorry to say. I apologize that there are problems. Steve
  12. I made one small change this week to how the Archives are dealt with because of disk space issues, but that shouldn't affect how the board is running for current topics. We had that wierd link problem earlier this week, and now complaints of slowness. I honestly haven't noticed any difference. I will tinker some, but I don't know of a solution right now. Others let me know if you have slowness so I know how big of a problem this is. However, I do want to forewarn people , the message board may go down for up to a week this summer. I am reworking the web site again (I do it every two years). I really like the LOOK of Billikens.com now, but the back infrastructure is pretty archaic. Also, we will be switching servers this summer during that week. We had problems last time, but I made a security mistake regarding a file, and it will NOT happen again. Finally, I will probably do another fundraiser this June/July. I still have $100 from the last one, but we are going to upgrade message boards (This script is ANCIENT). I don't know which board yet, but it will likely be the newest version of this board or a more professional board. Billikens.com traffic was higher than ever this past season, and even this April the traffic is up compared to past years. I am personally stunned, but hey, all the better. I really don't want to throw ads on this site, and I don't personally profit from it. However, it does cost some money to operate, and three years ago the members of Billikens.com were very generous. We have a good community here (most of the time ), so let's keep it going. Steve
  13. I moved VTime's tennis thread to the offseason board. I locked it (which I regret, because at the time I didn't think about the good tennis conversation between VTime and Skip). I will admit the past week or so I have not been as thorough in my moderation duties. However, I will say that this past season has probably been my least favorite in moderating this message board. Some people need to use some common sense, others need to realize that this is just an Internet Message board, and others need to turn down their sensitivity meters a tad. Excuse my brevity, but I have to get to class.
  14. Let me know if there are any problems. Billikens.com may have to move to a new server pretty soon. The message board is getting a little too big for this one. I am praying I won't have to do anything until June (aka Steve out of School, but for some reason a lot of disk space is being used up, and I did some cleaning tonight, but we only have 25mb free somehow)
  15. I don't have much consistency in moving stuff, but this board has been real good about keeping the Mizzou talk low (some tiger fans have started some discussions and with the resignation, I don't want this place to become Tigerboard.com). SLU is playing well...Let's focus on that. Steve
  16. The thread was turning into an internet flame war and not discussion.
  17. I am sure Drejaj in the last few minutes would have gotten the crowd on their feet. How many times has he been on the court waving his arms trying to pump up the crowd.
