  1. I did watch Cian Medley in the throne high school tournament. He is quick and likes to pass but shows a little offense with decent technique on free throws. I do like the way he guards the ball; it did look like he disappeared on offense, sometimes- but with TV and highschoolers maybe the boys recruited by Kentucky were not giving him the ball back, anyway
  2. I am all in on getting a power forward that can dominate the boards
  3. Porter Moser will have to reload Noland has potential and the size Ford likes in his guards: 229 pounds supposedly. If he can get after the ball like Fred Thatch Jr we could use help. A former Top 100 men’s basketball entered the NCAA’s transfer portal. C.J. Noland will intend to transfer from the Oklahoma Sooners. Noland, who was once ranked 87th on 247Sports’ Composite Rankings in 2021, will now be on the move after two years of fairly limited action.
  4. 41-22 NJ over Queens time out going to end of first half
  5. Cian medley a flashy passer has his team up 28-15 NJ avalanche vs Queens, Royals
  6. Channel 43 Fox Sports? High school basketball until 9:30
  7. Can he dribble better and see the floor better- I liked Yuri but I was expecting to get a lot better at protecting the ball and stealing the ball. Too many times he got snuck up from behind
  8. Anyone know if Gibson Jimerson is on a path to be the first basketball player to earn a PHD while playing for one school?
  9. Keshon Gilbert roster says he is six foot one and profile says he is six feet four inches? Anyone know as he is a Saint Louis kid.
  10. I was disappointed that our HC could not get Yuri Collins led team to play better together. Some tranfers like Picket seem to fit in as team mates: too many of our players seemed to play for themselves and had good games if their shots fell but were not ball stealers, assist makers or threats as dribblers, drivers, rebounders or ball hawks. I do think the players responded better to LH2 and he grew up a lot in a hurry. I am not knocking Collins I think he tried hard- court vision or flow something never quite happened- maybe he needs another year to envision his plays, his passes. The whole team was guilty of bad passing at times. Players not aware they were getting passed to or low passes to tall players. It just did not happen for two halves too often. Maybe some are gifted athletes but not smooth like Perkins before his injury. I commend the coach for an offense that seemed capable of 80 points even in loses but we had too much ugly basketball.
  11. I like Ford even though I did not enjoy this year’s team
  12. I think we will have better guard play the coming year. Ford touts Yuri but the proof is We had no Jordair Jett type energy to finish close games; this was a hard team to support.
  13. Hard to be a billiken fan- mostly always
  14. Larry Hughes Jr is a different player now- he is playing with confidence from all the time he has gotten and the team plays well with him instead of waiting for Yuri to do something. Minutes today with both in at same time turned out well as well.
  15. Someone Ask Claggett if he thought Grawer was as good as Spoon?
  16. I am not old enough to know all of them but from what I can remember or modern history recalls: After Eddie Hickey and John Bennington we could skip to very entertaining Spoonball with 4 guards and a rebounder, Majerus-briefly and now Travis Ford. For my money Ford gives us perpetual recruiting hope. NCAA basketball is such a big business and so competitive catching a shooting star might be an easier task. Every two or three years some Coach out of 200 plus trying- elbows onto the stage. Most basketball fans in Saint Louis are tired of being disappointed; but, they are kidding themselves if they think we have been closer. We have seen more local talent stay or come back to us in Ford’s reign than ever. We have had many years of being shunned by the “local basketball elite” Names like Hughes, Thames, Picket, Gordon, Thatch, etc. did not consider playing at home. Sure we missed on Kern and lots of others but my guess is they now wonder why they did not stay home.
  17. Just saying team basketball has taken a step backward- you might as well start watching the NBA-I am not a fan of basketball players who only pass if they can’t squeeze out a shot
  18. The portal lets in players who care more about career than school or team. Both the players who come in and those already on the team or new recruits are effected by people on the court who do not learn or initiate plays the way teams do. They play as individuals. Help is no longer second nature. We have a team that scores ten-twenty points more than we did in past but has teams hit 15-17 three pointers when they average seven a game. This is the new best available player not one that plays like coach Ford did in his day.
  19. Everyone agrees Ford is a very good recruiter. We are not missing out on some “local” or alum Coach who might recruit better. Ok take away the Covid year and take away the “situation” year and forget what big bruits we had poised to put as at the top of the A-10. That leaves you with five years and barely a large enough sample considering how far down Crews had taken us. The only thing Crews had going for him was Majerus seeing something that he felt worthwhile saving. The struggle to the top of the A-10 has similar schools with some pretty good coaches. I think we stand a better chance for a solid future with Ford and a better chance of him wanting to stay with the facts that we are willing to pay Ford and he has a lot of emotional ties to his own program with SLU. When he was younger he made UMass a competitor and bolted for a big state school. Maybe we are a better fit for him than a football school. I think Ford has the best rapport with local coaches of anyone in my 60 years watching the SLU program. I like our chances for good basketball with Ford. Let us step up and support the victory fund.
  20. Kael Combs says he would prefer a school that would let him play basketball and football
  21. Parked in parking lot; good menu was worth driving there just for turtle soup and salad in past- you can never go home
  22. As much as we love TJH we must encourage Pickett to regain the enthusiastic play before he got sick. Last night we saw the team struggle for identity and rhythm. We have lost Thatch Jr for the season and Pickett is a solid guy who can give minutes at a number of places on the court. He is not a three point shooter but he can finish and this team needs to finish. Javon pick up your team
