My post was not to imply that Spoonhour was not a good coach, it was to point out that he did have some flaws. His recruiting his last few years was flat out terrible, and he knew it, that’s why he bailed. Say what you want about Travis, but he works his tail off recruiting, something Spoon wouldn’t do.

Saying he’s articulate is offensive… you act surprised by that…

I wonder if people realize Charlie Spoonhour only had 3 seasons of 20 or more wins, won only 57% of his games, and had a 44-50 record in conference play in his 7 years at SLU… and basically stopped recruiting his last two years…why do I think today’s fans would not be too impressed?

The idea of firing Ford was ludicrous and the product of a few loud mouthed boosters. What wasn’t mentioned that it gained traction from wanna be big shots who wanted some attention. Bob also added that it was never worthy of discussion.

how meaningful can their visits be with all of the Ford is on the way out nonsense? I honestly believe you caring, compassionate, Ford detractors are much more interested in getting rid of the coach than bringing in star recruits…

You want me to speculate about someone I don’t know??? I think Ford is a solid coach and has established a program that will be consistently competitive. I believe in continuity and see the benefits of building something step by step. Davidson and St Bonaventure both showed this approach can work. SLU is never going to have the assets of a P6 school and trying to operate like them is a mistake. The real gamblers are those who want to blow up a program who has consistently won 20+ games and HOPE things Might be better. The smart money is building on the successes you already have. That said, if you want to bash Ford, do it honestly. To make statements that his teams never use a screen ( when they were 2nd in scoring), that he never listens to his coaches, lie about his actual record, just undermines your credibility.
