Let's say you were a pre-med student on scholarship that got a summer job as a laboratory assistant at a pharmaceutical company, but the schools with the top 353 pre-med programs (including at least one for-profit school) got together, formed an organization, and declared that if you got paid for your lab work - or got paid for anything relating to being a pre-med student whatsoever - you would be violating the sanctity and purity of being a pre-med student, would be investigated, suspended from performing lab work and might lose your scholarship. However, there would be nothing preventing the lab from negotiating directly with the organization to pay them for the benefit of your labor. You would get nothing. Your benefit from your hard work would be capped at the value of your scholarship (which your school could pull at any time), any further fruits of your labor would flow directly to the 353 schools. Because again, that would be inappropriate and untoward and violate the purity and righteousness of what it means to be pre-med.
The proposed changes aren't sickening. They're way past due.

If SLU can be the institution that develops a working treatment for the virus, I think the basketball team should be an automatic qualifier in next year's Final Four.

    Review from the interview:
    Francis Okoro:
Coach and the staff knew Okoro from AAU with BBE. He was pumping up their program over and over. He obviously knows it is a very important relationship. He noted how these transfer decisions have really sped up compared to prior years as there are no official visits really going on right now. A lot of the decisions are being made in a matter of days compared to a matter of weeks in the past.
He said Okoro's stats are no where near indicative of him as a player. He almost NEVER touched the ball or had any plays as Oregon was primarily a perimeter oriented team. He talked about his competitiveness and that it is on the same level as Goodwin and Yuri's. He will do anything to help the team win and is big time academic and how school is a major factor. Moving forward the plan is for him to sit out next year, but if something were to change they would address it going forward.

    Andre Lorentsson:
He is an elite shooter and will rival Jimerson  on Day 1.  He handles the ball  well, great passer, but is not  an inside guy. The game that Ford saw him play in person on the east coast, Lorentsson hit 7 straight 3's in the game on the way to 37 points.

    Martin Linssen:
He is eligible to play immediately.  A low post bruising type of player that will provide depth down low.

He did speak about potentially redshirting a couple guys, but they'd discuss it more down the road. Obviously Okoro fits in here, not sure who else he'd be talking about potentially?
He did mention both Goodwin and French as seniors, so that is a good sign for those of you who are still freaking about them not coming back. The staff supported both of them exploring their options and getting feedback. Obviously with everything going on the process is nowhere near what it would be normally as it's tough to get feedback.

Frank asked about potential budget cuts. Coach understands the situation and everyone will do their part. He was very complimentary of Pestello and May throughout this process and their leadership has been amazing.

Our 1st  sweet 16 entrant in the Corona bracket goes to Oxford University......who just completed a Rhesus Macaque monkey (our closest relative) study...all monkeys were disease free 28 days after being given the school's  new vaccine and then exposed to Coronavirus. ...this trial now leads to the 6000 person  study which starts immediately....and will be completed  by the end of May.    This gains them entry into my T3 bracket....Treatment Trial Tourney bracket.
A Final 4 possible by Sept (400,000  to be given the vaccine) ...with maybe a tourney winner ( Effective vaccine for the general public) before  the end of the year
Of course Oxford still has a number of games to play (always a chance for an upset)....
Bottom line...We only need 1 team to win.

I think it is much more complicated than the picture you are painting here.  The biggest issue is people who are not showing symptoms, but can still be spreading the disease.  By opening everything back up (without mass testing in place), you are definitely making everything more dangerous for the older population because the odds they run into someone who may spread it at a place they have to go like the the grocery store, doctor's office, etc. are much higher.  There are plenty of workers who may be in that older group and are "essential", so you're putting them at a higher risk.  Also, people who work at nursing homes become much more of a liability to their residents if they are going around like business as usual outside of work.
The ideal scenario is that we have a massive upgrade in testing, tracing & isolating.  Allow the younger population to essentially go about business like normal unless they are exposed / test positive & then they are quarantined until proven to not be contagious.  Older people are still encouraged to stay home, but with the testing, tracing & isolating in place it isn't exceptionally risky for them to do things that are necessary like grocery store, doctors office, etc.  Some safeguards stay in in place or are added for those types of businesses (ex: senior hours).  Nursing home workers, etc. are tested regularly to ensure safety of residents.
Opening up just to young people without the massive upgrade in testing, tracing & isolating, creates too many other problems IMO.

Here’s the thing Old Guy, I didn’t force you to post the things you posted in this thread...and it’s been quite a bit. You, and a few others, such as Brian for example, were way too dismissive of the knowledge of some others posting here about this topic.
You made your repeated assertions about death totals, dismissing the devastatingly large number ( less than 26k) as merely a guessing game of whether or not Old Guy can be correct. You advocated specific medication and pushed its success while ignoring the many serious side effects never-mind the lack of proven randomized controlled trials. It wasn’t exactly a balanced viewpoint.
Here above, you can’t resist mentioning ventilators for example. No one wants to be on a ventilator. You see I’ve been in the room, and I’ve also taken the calls regarding ventilator decisions, whether to put in, to take out, at just the precise moments to maximize success or to limit pain in critical care situations.  Life and death decisions sometimes. You dismissed ventilators, a last line of defense, earlier in this thread, despite thousands that come off of ventilators thus making it a proven, viable, reliable, last resort option, among other various options along the way. Are we going to discuss how many times one is on a ventilator or LTACS next?
You have narcissistically bullied young adults here including at least one female. You have suggested that some medical professions are somehow not as worthy as some others, including an archaic take on psychiatry.
You were triggered when you ran into several people who knew what they were talking about, yet still somehow managed to give you the respect you did not give to them.
That’s because the topic never mattered. You positioned yourself as apolitical despite pushing specific talking points at specific times as well as not doing so at specific times.  It’s not enough to discuss the topic objectively, share information. It’s about not only having an identity as an expert, but the expert, and threatening anyone that questions that. Some are dismissed as small minded plebs. Some however are threatening to your identity, and must be struck down. And when you have run out of topic discussion, attacking the other person is your ventilator, your last resort.
    Does it really matter?  Well...
When these types of things matter are when dangerous advice and conclusions are given. When it matters is when people with dangerous ideas are enabled and condoned.

A couple of recent stories supported by research suggest that the number of excess deaths (deaths above normal mortality for a given period) from March-early April was approximately 15,000 or twice the number of COVID19 deaths during that same period.

There could still be under reporting of what the count should be.  My guess would be the count is lower than it should be, but not in a significant amount.  This is something we need to know.  There really needs to be studies done with the numbers we have currently with adjustments made for deaths that should be attributed to people not seeking medical care for non COVID 19 cases out of fear of being infected.  I think that would be important information to know not just when it comes to the morbidity of COVID 19, but to what effect our current set up is having on an increase in other preventable deaths.

That's why I pointed out the ~10k figure which appears to be close to the current official number as of April 4 as reported in multiple outlets.

I can't repeat everything I have heard.  But I can confirm that SLU is definitely interested in Stockard,  Okoro and that Ford really likes Russell.  What that means in terms of possible roster moves idk but I heard Diarra might be leaving.

I assume Ford will have a convo with Jacobs and tell him his PT will be fluid based on the above.  Then will probably say that most of his minutes will come at the 2 and as a backup to Yuri, so Jacobs needs to continue to work on his shot, defense, but most importantly his ball handling.  Also, I’m sure ford will tell him to cut the crap at the end of the year that got him suspended.
in my mind, we have 3.5 spots for our pg, sg, sf and 3/4 (TJ and Andre).  That’s 140 min per game for 7-8 guys to split.

Butler, who isn't as offensively potent as we are, achieved a top 25 ranking with a point guard that averaged 7ppg while playing 32 mpg.  That's a mere extra bucket for Yuri, which could be achieved just by pushing tempo slightly more than last year.  Yuri's ppg is the last thing I'm concerned about.  We've got plenty of offense.  If we can play defense at the level we did the last 5 games of the season, we're going to be a top 15 team.  Period.

According to this website, U.S. domestic oil production increased from 5.2mm barrels of oil per day in January 2009 to $8.9mm on January 2017 (a 70% increase). Yup, it was all Trump.
